Adelheid Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Respect increases the opponent's tension gauge, which is good for when you want to bait an overdrive but the opponent is just a bit away from actually having enough tension to use an overdrive.
Mr_Gatotsu Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Giving the opponent tension can't really be good? I wouldn't wanna give anyone MORE chances to RC and FRC! Meh... Hell if I know. Im sure its just for S&Gs
Arvoyea Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 Something useful for this thread (because useful things are always nice): Respect x3 negates the effects of Negative Penalty. Taunt/Respect allow you to buffer Jumping inputs, such as for Carcass Ride or Dizzy's Instant Kill sequence. Respect can be Cancelled into other stuff for fake-outs as well. Thanks, Blade. I always hate how I decide to back off and immediately my tension says 'Danger'. And using Respect to cancel into attacks and buffer jump inputs sound useful as well. But I won't use it constantly, just to safe. In case the other player sees I'm obviously using Respect to fake him out.

Xeno Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 So you can cancel a move with respect..? Does this allow for crazy combos?
4r5 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 You can't cancel moves in to your respect, but you can cancel many normals into your taunt. But your taunt can't be canceled till halfway in, plus it gives your opponent tension. Taunt/Respect allow you to buffer Jumping inputs, such as for Carcass Ride or Dizzy's Instant Kill sequence. It doesn't let you buffer in jumps, but it does let you hit an upward direction with out sending a jump to the game. Respect x3 negates the effects of Negative Penalty. Do you mean taunts, or do you mean respect? And can you define what you mean by negative penalty? I'm trying to reproduce this, but I'm not getting anything special. I always hate how I decide to back off and immediately my tension says 'Danger'. If you look carefully at your tension gauge you will see that it flickers. If you move backwards, you will see that the flicker slows, and if you move forward, the flicker speeds up. This is how you can gauge your current Tension-Pulse and how close you are to hitting Danger. The faster, or slower, it flickers the more, or less, tension you get for your actions. Think of it like a multiplier. When the flickering stops, you hit the danger zone. In general, offensive actions like moving forward and attacking will increase your tension-pulse. While defensive actions like backdashing or being stationary will reduce your tension-pulse. Different actions increase or decrease your Tension-Pulse by different amounts. Also, using respect then canceling into an attack isn't all too useful. You get a bit more mileage if your respect happens to look like one of your other attacks, but it's mostly just a weak misdirection technique.
Mr_Gatotsu Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 No no no, it's... It's very useful. It...IS useful? Wait! Was that sarcasm?!
fabiano Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 So far only Domi use respect as it looks like 6p start up animation. I think it's the only "usefull" way to use it. let's check the others character's R in that purpose: -Axl:useless -Jam:maybe usefull to let the opponent think you did a D...maybe? -Zappa:really looks like his D- this one seems interesting -Chipp:useless -Dizzy:useless -Slayer:useless -ABA:useless -Johnny:looks like 236+p/k/L, could be interesting? -Sol/HOS:useless -Millia:2 rsepects, both useless -Ky:useless -Robo Ky:useless -May:useless, but as no one use R(and don't know the animations), I think it can be interesting to cancel it by 63214K. -she's got 2 different R -Eddie:useless Testament:useless -Potemkin:useless, but I saw someone cancel it by Pot burster in an event:yaaay: -Venom:useless- Looks like 214+p,k,s,h,d if someone find it usefull to fake this move, tell me -Baiken:she's got 2 R. useless -Bridget:useless -Faust:surprizing but useless -I-no:useless ...but why did I spend so much time on such a useless matter?
rtl42 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Dizzy's taunt (or was it respect? it's the one where necro and undine argue with each other) is UNBLOCKABLE wow. you can BDC slayer's taunt to be a TOTAL jerk. johnny's taunt makes his hitbox super thin, you can dodge stuff like dizzy's imperial ray super if you space yourself correcetly (lol combo vid). Baiken's crouching respect has a low hitbox, you can dodge Ky's Sacred Edge or Rising Force IIRC (lol combo vid). oh and if you cancel axl's taunt into itself, it looks like he's trying to skip rope with his chain but failing. that's all i remember off the top of my head.
BioLogIn Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Osaka-B (?) used Faust respect before low-hitting attacks. dunno what he tried to mimic, though. Faust's head during respect has attack properties, AFAIK.
Mitsurugi Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 His Respect can be used to feint a 6HS. Both has an animation where Faust more or stands up (in an awkward way for 6HS since he turns around). In the heat of the game, one can mistake one for another, making it a mix-up. - 6HS (overhead) or - Respect canceled by a low
rtl42 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 oh yeah, now that you guys mention it, that reminds me that there's some sort of taunt cancel with faust. the string i saw went like 5D -> taunt -> rerere no tsuki. but that was in #R or /, i wonder if it's still in AC.

Wait? 3 Respects nets you better Tension Gain? __________________ The Project. you didnt knew it.i told it first cause i figured not many of you would know it.no offense intended. Okay, lately when I play V.S. CPU mode (on hard or very hard difficulty), I somehow do things that the display (that says counter hit, negative penalty, etc.) say something called 'Rakusyo'. Here's what I did: When fighting Anji as Sol, I used his old Tyrant Rave to end a round. The display then said rakusyo. This has happened 3 or 4 times before. What does it mean? it its just a taunt at the end of the round. The one who does the taunt thinks you r inferior to him and thus gives u and advantage.and cant be done in the final round.rakusyo its also very good for robo-ky players find out why by yourself.
