Big K Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Yeah that is true Blade, people do have limits; like Superman and everybody knows he has a couple that is not dealing with Kryptonite. Well sorry for making comments that doesn't really applied to what you have said. Still, I never expected this game to be that life changing. Though, before I heard this game I just listen to hip hop not rock; when I got it, well now I listen to alot of music that sound awesome to me.
Sunnyday Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Here is a crappy theory I just made up. Alot characters in Guilty Gear uses magic, and there are only 5 types of magic including fire, lightning, water, wind and ki. Now the gears are made of both science and magic so they have no boundry of using the 5 types of magic. But Faust however seems to use alot of attacks that seems to be beyond magic, and he is only human. He seems to be more than just a normal person for summoning alot of items, disappering and shapeshifting. I think Faust might be from another dimension since he does not use magic in any form (regular, assasin, That Man). Five types of magic? You mean twelve chords right? 5 "Elements" but, 12 "Chords" or "Levels" of Magic Code complexity. Also keep in mind that music and math are synonymous with the code. So basically there are 60 different magic combinations/enchantments or variation thereof based on that calculation. But Sol mentioned himself that many of the chords he found fell 'outside that realm'. In otherwords there is even more besides allowed and forbidden magic, which all originates from the Backyard. Also the whole "Master Ghost represents Master who summons Servants to capture more Ghosts" is called the "Soul Sinker System". Originally Sol and Sin weren't able to perform that kind of magic, but with Izuna's help. Izuna "rewrote Sol's code" a bit and gave him a revamp of his abilities you could say. Only a Backyard "Resident" can do that. All these quotes make me wonder.. How far did humans go into exploiting magic in guilty gear? And do common people fear people who are using magic?
Zazz Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 i always sort of assumed learning Magic was like driving a car: everyone does it, but when mishandled, people can get severly injured or worse also on an unrelated note, was the general location of The Devil's Forest/The Grove ever given? I though I heard it was in A Country but I'm not really sure where I heard that.
Blade Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 All these quotes make me wonder.. How far did humans go into exploiting magic in guilty gear? And do common people fear people who are using magic? Far enough that they can time travel (I-no) I would assume. To say nothing of forbidden magics that threaten personal harm to yourself or those around you (think alchemy). As for people who can and can't use magic...I'm not sure that sort of class has been established. From what I understand "magic" is more a technology than something you identify classes of people with, though I suppose it is possible to not know magic, many who technically "don't" use it, are fairly powerful regardless (i.e. Johnny, May, Potemkin, Jam, Chipp, etc). That and other things like Ki and skill are influencing their power as well. Most of the time magic is used for combat purposes, so I don't think it's such a convenient thing to be used in everyday instances. Probably magic is a big topic mostly due in part to how closely related it is to Gears themselves since Gears are living beings infused with magic essence. As for how magic is used in most combat situations, I would say that Ky bests illustrates that with the Fuuraiken. Lightning is considered in the LtA novel to be an extremely difficult element to control compared to the others, and it was because of Ky's unnatural skill and genius that he is able to control it proficiently, that they granted him the Thunderseal. I can't say for sure, but the sword seems to have a Lightning elemental sealed inside it which Ky guides to attack with various flicks of his sword. It's hard to say if he's casting magic or if the magic is just coming out, but even so the possibility is there. As for Sol...since his natural power lies in Fire, just gripping an opponent can cause them to burst into flames (as can be seen in his airthrow). More than that though, in the novel he literally becomes a walking flame that burns through several walls to meet up with Solaria. Whether magic is something you use externally from a channeled source or if the source is the body itself is something of a mystery yet, but as I said, anything is possible...and for all we know it's "suspended belief" ultimately, we may never know.
Circuitous Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Using the Magic = Music = Code metaphor... My bet is that anyone can use magic. It's just a matter of knowing how to write it. Things like The 12 Steps exist as a guide to making functional spells (while also limiting their power) - you tune the code of the spell through these Steps to channel the magic into this world. So the way I see it, a character isn't really "tuned" to one element or another, beyond having a knack for that style - just like some people have a knack for a particular music style or programming language. Sol has an amazing capacity for tuning Fire, Ky with Lightning. They're sufficiently attuned to it, that they can cast relatively difficult spells (presumably using all 12 Steps) in a very short amount of time, whereas someone with more general knowledge would take considerably longer. The Thunderseal and Fireseal may contain elementals of the given element - if so, the elemental can likely be used as a starting ground for any spell the user casts while holding it. If not, then they may be considered like tuning forks, helping a caster find the chords for a certain spell faster. Sort of like an Arcane Focus - it handles the first couple of Steps. So... it's really very normal magic.
Blade Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Honestly I'd like someone with more music reading experience to expand the metaphor a bit and see if maybe we can get the jump on the next "jargon experience" from Professor Frederick.
Sulky Skullkey Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Haha, oh wow. This thread was enough to finally convince me to join up with this forum. I love the Guilty Gear series dearly, and I love the characters even more, so finding out more about their individual personalities, quirks, circumstances, all that's really interesting to me. Problem is, though, I lack the ability to obtain all this information or even understand it if I could, since it's pretty much all Japan-exclusive (unless those drama CDs and manga are being translated these days, which I'm pretty sure won't happen). I really wish the series was popular enough outside of Japan to get them to translate all that stuff and share it with the rest of the world, but I know it won't happen, so I have to rely on you guys for maybe 70-80% of the information regarding it all. This thread's been a big help toward enlightening me about all my favorite characters, and I'm glad you all went to all the trouble. It's a real shame we don't get these extras, or else we wouldn't have all the confusion that seems utterly rampant with the series (IE; bad fanfiction, inaccurate fanart, wild conspiracy theories about false rumors, etc). People like me are lucky there's people like you to sift through all the baseless rumors to find the truth. Good job, folks. That said, I have some notes to compare with you all from what I've gathered, things I want to check the validity of, to see whether I'm just making things up and letting my imagination get away from me. I really do apologize if I'm repeating something that's already been said- 83 pages is a lot to read, you understand- so I'll be brief about it. First off, and again, this is ONLY SPECULATION, or in other words, lies and slander until I can get a verdict on it from the experts, but I'd been wondering about the possibility of something regarding Faust. See, Faust was set up to think himself responsible for the death of a young girl, whose death set off his descent into becoming Dr. Baldhead. Now, what I've been wondering about involves May, who, for no apparent reason whatsoever, is terrified of bald people. You may see where I'm going with this by now. Being the irresponsible hack that I am, I haven't read up enough on Johnny/May's past to know how Johnny came across the girl in the first place, but what I want to know is if it's possible that the girl that Faust "killed" those years ago was actually May? The more I type this the more I doubt it, because Faust is a brilliant doctor and he should easily know whether the girl was dead or not, but, then again, he didn't realize that it wasn't his fault that she died, so... If nothing else, I suppose it's possible May was just an orphan whose parents were victims of Baldhead's, or something like that. Their pasts are likely tied together somehow or another, but I don't know how. Keep in mind I haven't got access to all this brilliant bonus material that would probably clear this all up, so I'm asking you if you have any opinions or actual FACTS regarding the backgrounds for these two. I'm really curious to see if I'm just blowing smoke or if there's any basis to any of this. And I typed waaaaaaaay too much for all this crap. Sorry about that.
Circuitous Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Honestly I'd like someone with more music reading experience to expand the metaphor a bit and see if maybe we can get the jump on the next "jargon experience" from Professor Frederick. As would I.
JinSaotome Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 snipsnip Swing and a miss, though that could certainly be a logical chain of events. I'm pretty sure it was established that May was raised in an orphanage that some guys were trying to make into supersoldiers, but Zato, Venom, and Millia all went in to kill all the orphans before they could mature. Instead, Millia "killed" Zato when he ordered her to kill the orphans (stabbed him with Lust Shaker a few times, but he lived and went unconscious) and kidnapped a baby and left her all alone. Enter Johnny who picks up said girl and BAM! High tier whiny annoying dolphin looper. EDIT: Oh yeah and Venom kind of confirmed that the girl died and Faust (well, Baldhead) received a sort of dream in wqhich he met the little girl again and she said that it wasn't his fault that he died. Double Edit: Oh yeah and its not confirmed that Faust = Baldhead, but its like 99% likely that this is true, given the XX story in which Venom calls him Doctor B- before being cut off by Faust, as well as May saying he's bald, and I-No stating that Faust once lusted for blood (and still does, even though he supresses it.)

Okay, good, see, this is why we have discussions like this. I figured at least 90% of it was BS my mind made up, but I needed confirmation first. And checking all sources available to me probably wouldn't have hurt either, but I wanted to hear it from you guys. So good, that's settled. Confusion dispersed, continue as scheduled.
Blade Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 (unless those drama CDs and manga are being translated these days, which I'm pretty sure won't happen). Resources are nice, I shall try and supply them. GGX+ Story Mode: http://mimeblade.oddigytitanium.com/Guilty_Gear/Guilty_Gear_Quote_Project/guilty_gear_x_plus_story.txt GGX and GGXX Drama CD Translations: http://mimeblade.oddigytitanium.com/Guilty_Gear/Guilty_Gear_Quote_Project/Drama_CD_Translations/ I know where to find more such as Theria's note translation of GG2 Dialogue (not that you need it). Also the dialogue for GGXX Story Mode...I believe someone has a thread here for AC+ Story mode as well (check the other sections of this forum). Also, Jin, I have yet to do a solid summary of Part 3 of Night of Knives, I shall get to that soon.
shinquickman Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I don't wanna cram this thread with useless fanfic stuff, but, I think it would be cool if in the next GG, Ky gets the hang of using his Thunderseal to cause time distortion and is able to repower his Thunderseal when necessary. Sorta like what he did on The Maiden. Anywho... Honestly I'd like someone with more music reading experience to expand the metaphor a bit and see if maybe we can get the jump on the next "jargon experience" from Professor Frederick. I know a fair amount of the music theory allusions they used in GG2, but to be honest, I think it would only muddle what little we know about Magical theories...
JinSaotome Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I know its kinda random, and I don't quite know when GG/ and this song came out, but Avenged Sevenfold released a song called "Sidewinder", and it certainly sounds to Daisuke's tastes. Could that be where Sol gets the name for his Sidewinder?
Kitana_Matsuri Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Highly plausible. Daisuke obviously takes interest in most rock music world wide. However, the word 'Sidewinder' isn't uncommon to be the name of/in the name of other songs. REM, Avenged Sevenfold, even Lee Morgan.
Blade Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Sol's themed on a lot of reptilian things: Strum Viper (It IS Strum in reference to strumming a guitar) Volcanic Viper Sidewinder Grand Viper Fafnir Savage Fang Dragon Install Lots of bands to be grabbed from that. Viper is a Brazilian metal band. Another band is Savage, and there's plenty more.
Circuitous Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 "City of Evil" featuring the song "Sidewinder": June 7, 2005. Guilty Gear XX Slash Japan arcade release: September, 2005. Well, it's chronologically conceivable, at least. Also this song sucks. Blade: which move is Strum Viper? I've never heard of it.
Suzaku Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Order-Sol. Has also been translated as Storm and Strom.
Blade Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 To clarify, "Storm" would be "Sutorumu" whereas "Strum" would be "Shutorumu" Move name is "シュトルムヴァイパー" Shutorumu Vaipaa.
Zeromegaman Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 If you listen Carefully it is Strum Vaiper.
Zazz Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 http://rallamajoop.livejournal.com/72088.html nothing you don't already know. except about Ky's wife that we'll "have to wait until the end of the series to find out." WHAT.
Lou_Cypher Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Ahaha...the Sin cosplayer. We need more of that. Also, Dizzy's unknown sister...I like that theory, though looks like it's flowing to most likely Dizzy, as usual. Also, any tips for this aspiring writer who's trying to write a Guilty Gear/Kingdom Hearts fic? I'm pairing up calm lightning, Ky Kiske....and Psycho electro, Larxene.
Wendy Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Ahaha...the Sin cosplayer. We need more of that. SolRocks Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Well, I hate to admit that I like the the " sister " idea... but I guess it's still unconfirmed, so I guess we should remain silent or else Blade is gonna' drive Blade crazy again...lol
Blade Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 http://rallamajoop.livejournal.com/72088.html nothing you don't already know. except about Ky's wife that we'll "have to wait until the end of the series to find out." WHAT. Nothing new that I didn't already KNOW. Though Zazz, I suppose you want your perfect "family" ending. GG is one of the more Bizarre fighting games I've come to enjoy over the years, at least compared to other stories. Stuff like Street Fighter and Dark Stalkers ends up being far too ambiguous, and Mortal Kombat ended up suffering from "Evangelion Syndrome" (i.e. everyone dies). Samurai Spirits got too "in period" for my taste as well, though it's a good series too. I'm not expecting a happy ending at this point, but I'm not expecting an entirely sad one either. But I'm also thinking this: Ky's Wife's Name =/= End of Story So don't think the story's gonna end if you find out...it might just be a key plot point that makes things more interesting further down the road. Things that are important that DAISUKE wants us to think about *hinthint* -Sol's Gear Cell Containment Device Eroding -Gear Sublimation Disease (i.e. Gears disappearing/falling apart) -How the Sacred Treasures (i.e. Jinki/OutRage) can somehow manipulate time to prevent Gear Sublimation (i.e. Thunderseal). -That Man's reason for building a Cube/Barrier in one of the deeper regions of the Backyard. -Why the cube is based on Frederick/Sol's Bio-structure/algorythm. -What lies beyond the Cube that was being prevented from being accessed by Valentine. -Who Valentine's "mother" is. (No statement on whether this IS in fact Aria/Compassionless Apocalypse). That Man says that in a way Valentine IS Aria (whom he claims both he and Frederick killed) and that in the near future Sol would be dealing with multiple "Compassionless Apocalypses" which is actually a bad "joke" on That Man's part according to Sol, so we may not get the punchline till later. -Why Raven calls That Man "His Holiness", and That Man says that Raven is intended to be an "observer of the changes in history". -Why a "power equal to Justice/Justice Copy" can serve as a "Key" to the Cube, or in Sin's case, a reasonable facscimile of a facscimile (i.e. him sharing his mother's DNA). As of GG2 Overture, these are the more pressing questions, though there are plenty more with regards to Accent Core + Story Mode, these seem to take priority in the storyline.
