Suzaku Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Baldhead = Faust is one of the "public secrets" of the Guilty Gear series, just like Dizzy = Maiden of the Grove and Justice = Aria. Everyone knows the truth, but it has yet to be stated explicitly in official sources.
Zazz Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 here's something i was thinking about: what are the personalities/stories like of the various GG2 servants? like Dr. P's fairies? . . . or Izuna's nekomata? . . . or is Bonebiter a people person? do Cherry Hatchets ever SHUT UP? what's up with the GEEEEEEEESE on the convict hammers? i always wonder about the backstories to stuff like that
Blade Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 The backstories for Izuna's crew are more explicitly based on folklore. I made a list of their origins a while ago. --Kappa: Frog/Turtle-like water Sprite/Deity in Japanese Folklore. --Nekomata: Literally translated as "Forked Cat", it is a Bakeneko Cat-monster with Two tails that stands on its hind legs. Supposedly haunts any household it is kept in, throws fireballs, or turns itself into a human shape. --Namahage: A fierce demon said to visit homes searching for naughty children and to scare them, also a symbol for cleansing of the soul. --Ittan-momen: A Ghost phenomenon said to attack humans in the Folklore of Kagoshima Prefecture. --Tengu: Literally translated "Heavenly Dogs" they are a class of supernatural monster known for being harbingers of war, but also forest guardian spirits. --Deidaara: Unknown/Possibly linked to a being called Daidarabotchi a giant responsible for several Geological Locations in Japan according to Folklore. --Oyuki: Possibly a derivative of a yuki-onna [snow Woman] associated with a spirit who rescues people from snow storms, but also named after a character in the Manga "Urusei Yatsura". --Daruma: Otherwise known as a Dharma doll is a red wishing Doll modeled after the Bodhidharma, the founder and first patriarch of Zen. --Kirin: Originally called "Qilin" in Chinese, it is a mythical beast associated with the arrival of a Sage that brings good omens or prosperity, depicted with Fire around its body. As for the Gears and Valentine's "Sweet Servants" backstories, no clue.
Lou_Cypher Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I like those Personas. Speaking of which...(slightly off-topic) if the Guilty Gear cast had Personas...which mythological creatures would they own? I was thinking: Sol gets Hephaestus? Ky gets Lancelot? etc...
Suzaku Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Most of the servants aren't exactly "real". Only Ky's and Paradigm's, which are humans and Gears, are. The youkai are are sort of on the bubble, being born naturally in the Backyard, but the rest are simply manifestations of their master's will, summoned using the power of the Backyard. Sol's tribe could probably be considered inventions or ideas within him, which are brought forth when he needs them, though they're basically machines so they probably don't have "personalities", exactly. If they have any personalities to speak of, they're probably terse and efficient. Sin's are probably called forth based on his memories of Illyria, so their personalities are probably based on his memories and opinions as well. Because he considers those associated with the Kingdom to be elitist and disconnected from the people, the servants he summons might reflect that? The Vizuel, or at least the Gas Mask Girls that appear in the Campaign, don't appear to have any personalities (or emotions) to speak of, just being dolls Valentine uses to carry out her goals. Youkai have been around for a very long time and likely match up with the mythological interpretations of them. Izuna's short story or the setting materials might shed more light on them, but I haven't checked that out yet. Paradigm's Gears probably have a variety of personalities, though considering Paradigm's views on humans and humanoid Gears, their personalities are probably more primal / tribal? Again, short story or setting materials might provide more information. Ky's human soldiers... From a practical standpoint, I'd bet that many of Illyria's soldiers are former Holy Knights that served under him in the Sacred Order during the Crusades, but that's just speculation based on the fact that many of his subordinates in the International Police Force were, and still called him "Captain," even though the Crusades were over. The Convict Hammers in the Campaign seem to be extremely loyal to him and even seem to share some of his old religous zeal. Since they're humans, there are probably a variety of personalities even within a single soldier type.
Ashercroix Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 From playing the game, I've always thought that ALL of them were 'manifestations' instead of real guys, except for Paradigm and Izuna, and possibly Valentine. I've also had an idea that all the Servants are like a facet of the Master's personality. Sol's do seem like they have personality. Quotes from his Servants include: Oh, Hell Found the bastard I'm busted Gimme five! I got a bad feeling about this... Despite their robotic voices and appearances, I've gotten a few chuckles out of commanding Sol's army. Oh, and there's the one called "Pencil Guy", which may be a reference to the Frederick side of Sol. I dunno lol. Valentine's have personality as well. In a cutscene, some express fear of dying during the mission Valentine sent them on, while others argue that even if they run away and live, they would have no meaning to exist without taking Valentine's orders, and might as well be dead. In the end, they decide they might as well do the mission despite wanting to live. From this exchange, I got the feeling that they all have an aspect of Valentine's (Aria's, most likely, since Valentine hasn't awakened to all her feelings yet) personality, but are bound to obey her since they're just extensions. Almost every other Servant in the game seems to be more loyal than hers, though. Izuna's and Paradigm's (though especially Izuna's) seem to be stand-alone sentient, called to help, more than manifested from the psyche. I fail so I can't remember if Paradigm was actually born from the backyard (I'm pretty sure he wasn't), but I know for sure Izuna was, so since Servants are called from the Master's "information" in the Backyard, and Izuna is actually FROM the backyard, it makes sense for his Servants to be more like "friends", and have an individuality not unlike Izuna's own. I'd bust out the game and check more personality-ish quotes for the Servants, but my 360 is all over my room and I only have a couple more minutes on the computer. I think this is enough to at least give my argument some substance, though. Oh, and I don't have enough time to touch on Sin and Ky's, other than to say that I agree with you for Sin, but I think Ky's are manifestations of his knightly mindset, rather than actual people. Unless I misunderstood you. There's always an 85% chance of that with me. :P As always, just pulling this all out of my butt. :P
danceljoy Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Actually, GG2 could have included other characters too, story-wise they can always be excluded from the campaign. May's or Johnny's servants could be the Jellyfish pirates and some marine creatures Venom could have his assassins for servants. Faust...living medical apparatuses or crazy nurses. Potemkin: Zepp soldiers (But how will he dash?) Jam: living food Zappa or Slayer: Ghosts or supernatural creatures of course! Robo-Ky: A whole bunch of Robo-Kys and Robotemkins and PWAB creations Oh I love imagining Anyway i manage to get two pieces of fanfic done, and i manage to make a fanfiction account. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1921023/Sunnyday6982 (I don't why i make a FAQ list, i just thought it was needed ) plus the two stories. GG Chimera: intro. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5043028/1/Guilty_Gear_Chimera_intro GG Chimera: Chapter one http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5043040/1/Guilty_Gear_Chimera_Chapter_one Some feedback is needed... We should really have a separate fanfic thread. Anyway here's some feedback: I'm also an improving writer and here's some technical things you need to know some in fanfiction.net 1. Use line breaks 2. Don't separate the introduction of the story from the story itself If you need help, feel free to PM me on my account: danceljoy

Blade Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 The term for the servants summoned by Valentine and the ones used by Sol is called "Soul Sinker" basically a set of Backyard parameters implemented to create a reflection of that person's Soul. The Masterghost is similar to a Persona if you will...it is a key representative base that summons further "shards" of that person's personality. As long as the Master Ghost is in physical space and maintains its "stamina" even if the "Master" who is the key representative of the Master Ghost will not die if given a fatal blow. However, should the Master Ghost get destroyed, the Master will be killed. As a precaution, by default the Master Ghost maintains a powerful barrier that can only be broken by enemy Servants and only slightly damaged by an enemy Master. In this case, we see machinery similar to a zippo lighter (Fireseal hint) and a human being trapped between two spinning cog gears made of molten fire, which is Sol's representative self. The "Servants" act like magic Familiars otherwise known as Mobile Minions. Sol even has the ability to summon his own personal unit, Hunchback, even while away from his Master Ghost, which is where all Servants will normally originate. When a Servant captures a regular Ghost, the Master's Soul imbues the Ghost base with power to heal units as well as the Master.
Zazz Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I fail so I can't remember if Paradigm was actually born from the backyard (I'm pretty sure he wasn't) yeah Dr. P is from Ohio. I think only Paradigm's, Izuna's, & Ky's servants are actual living beings, the rest are a product of soul sinkers i wouldn't mind if Daisuke would announce GG2:2 soon
Suzaku Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Zazz is right, Ishiwatari stated in an interview in the GG2 Material Collection book that Paradigm's, Izuna's, and Ky's are the only "real" ones. Paradigm's are Gears, Ky's are humans, and Izuna's are youkai. Some of my personal casting ideas: May/Johnny - Jellyfish Pirates Venom - Assassins - Elite unit: The monster from Nirvana Testament - Demons (think "western youkai") Slayer - Nightwalkers Zappa - Ghosts - Elite unit: Raoh Gabriel - Zepp Military - Elite unit: Potemkin Crow/Robo-Ky - Robo-Army - Elite unit: Giant King Robo-Ky A.B.A could also be interesting with various homonculi, I can imagine various interesting servants for her. Depening on how Chipp fares in his bid for presidency and what country he's shooting for, he could be an interesting master. Someone (or something) with various Forbidden Beasts could be interesting, too.
Lou_Cypher Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Oh so it's their Masterghost that's their Persona...
Ashercroix Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Ahhhh, I see I see. Okay then. Ishiwatari's word is law.
Wendy Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Baldhead = Faust is one of the "public secrets" of the Guilty Gear series, just like Dizzy = Maiden of the Grove and Justice = Aria. Everyone knows the truth, but it has yet to be stated explicitly in official sources. baldhead=faust is so obvious maiden of the grove= dizzy is true. (U_U i don't like the pairing kyxdizzy...but i accept this because it's offical.) but justice= aria= ¿¿??. there are many scenes in gg 2 overture some strange;specially with the relation between valentine, aria, justice and the cube. =S If valetine did not use sin's adn for open the cube, i believe in this theory
DonMungMung Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Some of my personal casting ideas: May/Johnny - Jellyfish Pirates Venom - Assassins - Elite unit: The monster from Nirvana Testament - Demons (think "western youkai") Slayer - Nightwalkers Zappa - Ghosts - Elite unit: Raoh Gabriel - Zepp Military - Elite unit: Potemkin Crow/Robo-Ky - Robo-Army - Elite unit: Giant King Robo-Ky. I LIKE THE SOUND OF ALL THAT. Oh man, especially western demons and ghosts. Shit, can you imagine Zappa's run in 3D? :toot: Although aren't "nightwalkers" very similar to vampires and other western monsters 'n such?
Zazz Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 all my thoughts on who should get in the next gg2 game are right here
danceljoy Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 baldhead=faust is so obvious maiden of the grove= dizzy is true. As for Justice cells, they're physical properties that Valentine doesn't possess, because she wasn't converted into a gear. Just a theory Another fanfic, crack humor about Sin, very happy: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5047654/1/Shattered_Innocence May 10, 2009- I don't know where to post this but anyway: Happy Mother's Day to Justice! And to Kokage no Kimi too! Random question: Are Gears edible?
Zazz Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Another fanfic, crack humor about Sin, very happy: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5047654/1/Shattered_Innocence this is cute and silly. i like this more than your sad story. though slayer would punch sin for his "vampires aren't real" comment
Lou_Cypher Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 What vampires? I've never seen the word 'vampire' used in Guilty Gear. Just Nightwalker....
Blade Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Random question: Are Gears edible? If you don't mind pooping magic, then go ahead. Though in all seriousness, the age of magic has brought about rather otherworldly beings into existence that wouldn't normally be in everyday life. Giant skeletons of old demons a millenia old bearing massive swords. A Chinese restaurant carved out of a still-living dragon (which apparently regenerates itself if they don't constantly serve dragon meat from its hide periodically). Demonic beings sealed in chains and nailed to the floor or pierced by several swords... And who knows what those Witch Villages tend to eat???
shinquickman Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Gabriel - Zepp Military - Elite unit: Potemkin Maybe the Elite unit could be one of those mobile suite guys you see in the Zepp stage during the original XX... or better yet, the Elite unit could be Potemkin RIDING a mobile suite!
danceljoy Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 If you don't mind pooping magic, then go ahead. Though in all seriousness, the age of magic has brought about rather otherworldly beings into existence that wouldn't normally be in everyday life. And who knows what those Witch Villages tend to eat??? Then do Gears eat people? And does Ky use a car? Just curious.
DonMungMung Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Then do Gears eat people? And does Ky use a car? Just curious. Holy shit for a second I was reminded of the GGX anime promo, when Dizzy says "Do Gears have the right to live?" or whatever :vbang: Also, that second sentence begs to be drawn! Go Artists of Dustloop, Go!
BioLogIn Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Also, that second sentence begs to be drawn! Go Artists of Dustloop, Go! Ky doesn't drive. Sol does: http://biologin.guiltygear.ru/1087767855727vm8.jpg http://biologin.guiltygear.ru/whydoyoudrivezv0.jpg
Lil Sassy Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Ky doesn't drive. Sol does: http://biologin.guiltygear.ru/1087767855727vm8.jpg http://biologin.guiltygear.ru/whydoyoudrivezv0.jpg first one is pretty good.
