AllyOfJustice Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Fleshed out translation of Famitsu interview by way of Eventhubs So we have a dumbed down Guilty Gear, confirmed by the man himself. I'm de-hyped. I'm pumped down.
Poultrygeist Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Ishiwatari explains that although the previous Guilty Gear games would not accept buffered inputs in a number of situations, Xrd will now allow it, as the development team heard that newer players would find it difficult to execute those commands without buffered inputs. That doesn't sound dumbed down to me at all. That seems like an objective improvement as long as it isn't so loose that you get the wrong commands like what happens sometimes in SF and KOF13.
TAI-X Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Folks, as much as you may not want to hear this, when you get down to it they really had no choice but to simplify the game from Accent Core. Xrd has probably been ArcSys' largest single investment in the company's history, and they need to make bank on it somehow. However true or untrue it may be, GG has built a reputation for itself within the broader gaming community as being a highly technical and unintuitive game that is overly inaccessible and unwelcoming to newcomers. That doesn't translate into strong sales or large tourney attendances. Replacing FRCs with the more forgiving and self-explanatory YRCs, as well as adding buffered inputs, Danger Time, and Hell Fire comeback ODs will all contribute to bringing in the SF/Marvel/MK droves that Xrd needs to cater to succeed. Like it or not, the long-term future of the game is bleak if they don't support it.
youcanwonder Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 All I'm goin to say is that interview and the guy interviewing Daisuke was fuk en terrible...that is all lol
D.R.F. Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 If jp players can stand the game, and even are willing to play different characters for the sake of playing gg, then why shouldn't we? Doesnt look like any sort of shitty game to me, and im ready to play gg with more people. Besides new mechanics do their job just fine
AllyOfJustice Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 All I'm goin to say is that interview and the guy interviewing Daisuke was fuk en terrible...that is all lol "What's this character's name?" "Soru Badoguy" "Sol Badguy? Hahahahahaha That's a good name. He must be a lovely guy."

I think that this is actuall kind of important since it'll make it a bit less weird for BB people to transfer over and I have firends that couldn't get into GG because it was so different (yeah they're kinda casual but Arcsys'd like thier money). Should help when people try to sell the game to their friends.
D.R.F. Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I remember first time playing GG. Started with P4A and it was HELL on earth. I doubt most people would stick to it like I did (4 months learning basic mechanics, from F2F brake to beginner Jump install) so the lower skill floor would be nice for new players
ElvenShadow Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Oh man… this thread is just cringe-worthy. So much whining and baseless, wild assumptions and panic for no reason. How many times have I already re-asured you that Xrd is legit? The console version is not going to be any different than the arcade version as far as core gameplay goes (which is a good thing, and a balance patch is not necessary and would be too early at this point). I have been enjoying the hell out of this game since release and am still super hype about it and have so much fun playing it! The eventhubs article translation makes it sound worse than it is, or rather, people are just choosing to interpret it wrong, and same goes for the comments section on that page. The game has only really been simplified from an execution and barriers of entry stand point. The game still has all the depth of older games. These decisions were absolutely NECESSARY if you ever want to see the non-Japanese Guilty Gear scene become more than just the same 5 guys getting together at someone’s house to play every week or so. Look at how popular SF and Marvel became once they released versions that were “dumbed down”. The difference here is that Xrd is actually way LESS “dumbed down” than those by comparrison. I honestly don’t even see it as “dumbed down” but rather, just different. All the new system mechanics (except for Danger Time, which hardly effects the game and isn’t even THAT bad) are all great and work really well. With so many vids available online for people to watch of high level play, I honestly don’t see how anyone can honestly still think that this game is lacking depth or doesn’t play like past versions of the GG series. You still have all of your core system mechanics that have been around for the whole series. Most of the stuff that was removed was newer stuff added later on but it was replaced with new stuff that is also interesting and fun. You still have all of your buttons (so its not like marvel 3). The speed is basically the same and the difference is so slight that you won’t even notice it after a short time. The re-design to the RC system just adds a whole new layer of depth to the game because of all of the creative ways you can use meter now and all of the situations and mind-games that come with it. They will eventually put more returning favorites back in the game. Story reason restrictions? C’mon, do you really believe that is the REAL reason why many characters are not in the game? As stated in several interviews, there were multiple reasons why we have the characters in the game that we do at the moment. The bottom line is that the number of characters included are always going to be limited by development costs and time. Those are the 2 main things. TIME and MONEY! They will gradually put more characters in as time goes on. Do you HONESTLY think they will leave out Dizzy given how popular she is? They want more MONEY and they know if DEMAND is there for Dizzy then they will add her in eventually. Just stop worrying so damn much and be excited for the game! It’s a fanastic game and you all are going to play it and love it. If you really want this game to thrive, build up your local scenes, travel, advertise the game, hype it up. Anyone who thought Xrd was going to get more press attention than MK or Smash is living in a fantasy world. As it stands, Xrd still has the POTENTIAL to be the most popular Guilty Gear game to date, and a big determining factor is how much effort you all put into your scenes and how much you play the game. So many people in this thread are already writing the game off for stupid reasons. Do you want the game to die? Yes? Then continue being self-defeating and irrationally pessemstic. Do you want the game to thrive? Then get hype, feed that hype to others, and generate interest in your scene, and when the game drops, play the HELL out of it and build up your scene! Also, cross-console play and (very very likely) solid net-code is going to make even playing this online viable! Take it from someone who has been playing GG since GGX on the Dreamcast (probably longer than 99% of this thread). If you like any of the existing GG fighting games… YOU. WILL. LIKE. XRD.
TeeJay Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Haha, I think some of us are having trouble containing the hype. This may sound silly, but how is the maniac CPU? One thing about guilty gear was that I didn't mind playing arcade mode, m.o.m or survivor mode. CPU KI combos would get me mad hype. I felt like I could still try mixups without getting auto-jabbed every time. Also, the CPU would sometimes block intensely for a while. I've never been sure if it was a placebo or a much different algorithm. I spent too much time playing arcade modes. Regarding the interview. It's clear that they wanted to boost the visuals and other things to get outsiders to find the game initially interesting. GG wants to stick out visually. In fact, I suppose SF4+, MvC, MK etc. all have distinct visual aspects that make them seem fresh to most. Even P4U has a really clean look to it-- next thing I know, I'm playing Persona 3 and 4. I recall seeing Alex Valle and Xian playing P4U (Akihiko and Yukiko). It would be really cool to see other players making leaps to Xrd. haha, Sandford Kelly and Arturo Sanchez playing BB. I think that's pretty positive.
D.R.F. Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Fuck man, elvenshadow made me hype again:p im trying not to watch the newest mikado stuff its so tempting though... anyways, whos got their copy ready?
Appledash- Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Fuck man, elvenshadow made me hype again:p im trying not to watch the newest mikado stuff its so tempting though... anyways, whos got their copy ready? Why not? Elvenshadow is even in some of it I think.
White Man Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 seriously, no balance changes? thats pretty lame... I predict they'll do something similar to what they did with CP and rebalance the arcade version when they rerelease it with the console exclusive stuff included, then release a patch for the home versions so both play the same. I have zero evidence they'll do this, of course, but it does seem to be a reoccurring pattern with FG developers.
D.R.F. Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Why not? Elvenshadow is even in some of it I think. That is very true, always fun to watch him play. Gotta wait till I get back home, no wifi is no bueno
Layer Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 If anything I apologize; since I think I'm the first one who mentioned E3 though I had no idea that discussion would spiral out of control to this point. The interview to me seemed exactly what I expected a casual mainstream person would ask about GG, so that's kinda what I was hoping more publications would do. Explain the basics to people who are outside our circle and get interested in the series. Though I can understand why many of us here are upset. They did just release a trailer, which is just the Arcade Opening. Lets just hope our dustloop correspondents got some juicy tid bits for us. Also, Gamespot had a follow up article about Xrd. Nothing special, but every little bit helps.
AllyOfJustice Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Haha, I think some of us are having trouble containing the hype. The hype is messing with my head. I'm the biggest fanboy here and I want Xrd to be great. That's all I want.
D.R.F. Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 ^ ain't gotta worry bout that. I just want this game to be seen on a stage again, like back in 2002-2007 the days I didnt get the chance to experience, thanks to persona and blaz blue cp, im ready to re-live the gg of before
Jocelot Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Gamespot also has a couple vids up, just first time players most likely but it's nice to remind folk of how UTTERLY STUNNING this game looks, holy balls. I guess the power of next gen just makes an already sexy game sexier. http://www.gamespot.com/videos/e3-2014-guilty-gear-xrd-sign-ramlethal-vs-bedman/2300-6419652/
TheRealBobMan Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Yeah, so if anyone wants to play +R or even AC instead of Xrd for whatever reason, I'll happily play with you guys, and if I can find some time to learn #R I might be willing to do that too. That said, this is a great opportunity to get more people to play with, so we should embrace that. Or we could be the one club at school with 4 members that doesn't let anyone else join. I walked by Ishiwatari in the hall today. Didn't get to talk to him, but I swung by the Aksys booth about 30 minutes later and saw him there, which confirmed my suspicion that he was busy and shouldn't be bothered. The autograph signing is tomorrow so I'll voice everyone's requests as best as possible in the short time frame they give me. EU localization, PS3 arcade stick support for PS4, and GIVE US THE GODDAMN SOUNDTRACK IN HIGH QUALITY ALREADY. LIVE STREAM THAT SHIT STRAIGHT INTO MY BLOODSTREAM. I asked an Aksys rep about Europe Localization even though they don't handle that, and he said that generally it's REALLY hard to get something localized for EU without having a physical presence there. He couldn't really go into more detail than that, but there's some info. When there were about 20 minutes till closing, Mike Z made it over to the setups for the first time and I played with him for about 4-5 games. He complained about Xrd about as much as I complained about Smash while I was at the Invitational, so I guess it was funny to be on the other side of that. Sucks to be a Pot main, though is main complaint is that you can YRC moves on startup, which feels really different from what he felt GG is really about. It's certainly going to be a very different game because of that mechanic. I guess I kinda agree with him that the cinematic supers start dragging after a while, but that's probably because he hit me with HPB about once per game we played. That one lasts a long time, probably longer than any other cinematic super, and I think that May's whale does more damage so that kinda sucks (spending so much time on a hit that's actually not quite as strong as grab supers in other games). That said, I'll happily live with it if it gets more people to play the game. At least it's not 5 seconds of a skull breaking in MK or something. He also pointed out that the camera spin when a round ends probably starts up and happens too quickly, which can sometimes make it hard to determine what move won the round. If there's any part of the game that can afford to be a little slow, it's probably a round ending, so if they gave an extra 0.5 second before the spin it'd be less jarring. Otherwise, he nitpicked about things that were non-issues and even admitted that he wouldn't knock the game for those, like the loading screens being a little longer than he would expect for PS4 (come the fuck on it's a demo on a new console). To finish up with wishlist things and whining, I'm growing to not like the pauses/poses on YRC/RC and I hope they go away or get adjusted in some way with whatever next iteration they make. But once again, that's not going to stop me from playing the game. I'm having lots of fun with it. So anyway, I've been trying to get an opportunity to throw a burst with I-No's command throw, but haven't been able to yet. Since she can use it from the ground, she can even cancel into it from a non jump cancelable ground normal, which could mean she has the best burst baiting in the game. I tried to do Chipp's old impossible dust (5D > IAD j.K > 6H), but couldn't connect with the j.K at all. Mostly it's trying to play pad again and the lack of ability to just sit and practice, but I don't think you can really ID anymore. The combos are just different. *fart* Ramlethal feels ****ing weird, but she's cool. Damage output feels crappy if you're just using her "mash square" combos, but her swords are fun to use. That new May overhead is a 6K. Not sure if this has been confirmed before or not. Blocking Chipp's Bankai Messai (the "totally safe!" super where he dashes in and punches 30 times) causes the RISC gauge to max out. Also, once it's flashing it seems to stay flashing until it drops to about 1/2 way? Then, while it looks like it builds really fast, I forgot to consider that the guard gauge started at 50% and then scaled up and down, whereas RISC only shows the scaled up portion. It's likely that it's the same maximum value and build speed as before, but visually it fills up faster since it starts at a 0 value and is mapped differently to the gauge. There's no arcade mode with the demo. If only one person plays, they get a relatively braindead CPU to go 3/5 with. It kinda randomly moves around and does stuff, just like a typical 'normal mode' CPU in a fighting game. I played against a CPU Millia once near the end of the day, right before Mike showed up. With I-No, I'm not sure if it's possible to combo off of mixup Sdive mid screen since it knocks down now. I've tried to RC it into a combo multiple times and it always drops. Either I'm still not timing it right because of that posing effect throwing off my timing, or you'll just always hit them OTG. However, at the cost of weakened meterless mixup we get to knockdown with Sdive in situations where that wouldn't have worked, so that's a thing. Oh yeah, so I don't know if anyone has noticed or talked about it before, but during one match I saw a large part of Slayer's stage break off of a wall and fall on Sharon's head while she was reading. She almost acted like she didn't notice, which was pretty funny considering it broke ON her head as it was landing. The backgrounds are really fun to look at. Man, I'm ****ing tired. Also it seems like there's less free stuff at E3 with each coming year. Besides that poster I was holding up, I got a bag with Teddie's face on it (wanted to get more for friends but they ran out), and a Smash T-shirt. I also got an energy drink from playing Sunset Overdrive, which was actually better than I expected. I wouldn't have played it, but a co-worker let me cut in line with him so I didn't have to wait for an hour, and while I wont go buy an Xbone to play it at least I had fun. Also, can we stop paying attention to minecraft yet? No one cares that it's on PS4 and Xbone because everyone that cares about it already has it for like 8 other platforms. Those setups could have been GG setups goddammit! Gonna watch No Game No Life and go to bed. I wanna get there early tomorrow to make sure I can talk to Ishiwatari.
ElvenShadow Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Most of the small nitpicks that you mentioned and things that Mike Z mentioned were things I also found a bit jarring during loketests and right after release, but as time went on I got used to all that stuff and it doesn’t bother me at all anymore. The bottme line is that you said you had fun and think of how much more fun you will have once there is a large, competative scene to fight and you actually know what you are doing in the game! Good luck with Ishiwatari-san tomorrow.
XXXDC Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Hope to see MikeZ's Pot again in Xrd Cinematic supers start dragging after a while Also hope for an option to turn them off (I know it probabily will never happen).
D.R.F. Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Idk heavenly pot buster is hype. It is nice to have things like that in a game and honestly it is nothing compared to sf4 and MK9.
TheRealBobMan Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Yeah, I can't wait to be able to sit down with this game and an arcade stick and actually learn more complex stuff in training mode. The PS4 pad feels great, but I can't tech or j.D FDC to save my life on this thing.
ElvenShadow Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Why not? Elvenshadow is even in some of it I think. This is correct. We lost to FAB team and got sent to losers. I OCVed a 4 man team in losers finals and then we lost to the sick 16 dan Ramlethal on FAB team in final match
