I still don't know who should i main, don't want to be "another Sol player", but it's an unforgivable crime to skip Xrd after so many years of waiting.

Ramlathal is a good investment.

You might never return to whatever you used to play with.

So people talking about characters and their quirks, here comes my ultra negative comment.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that apart from the design, I loathe pretty much everything about all the GG characters.
I wish I never played their story modes. I played some and wondered "they can't all be this atrocious can they?" They were; they were all atrocious.
Playing some of the story modes actually made me like most of the characters LESS, and I hope to one day forget my unfortunate experiences entirely.

And this isn't about the characters being funny or quirky or whatnot, I usually prefer that. It's just that the characters and the writing around them was so immensely godawful.

GG is entirely visual to me. Screw what the characters actually are beyond their looks and playstyles.

I'm still on the ropes on whether I'm going to force myself through the story modes in Xrd.

Judging the plot of GG only for the story of AC+/+R is the worse thing someone can do, I'm fan of GG's world and I didn't like it either, not to say also the new voices of some characters like Baiken and Bridget are really quite bad compared to before.

EDIT: If what you want is a good story and characters play #R, but if you want better gameplay, play +R.

My feelings on Xrd at the moment: No Bridget, no buy.

Seriously, I use no one else in GG but Bridget. If he's not in the game, then I can't get hype for it.

I'm just confused you play like 7 characters in every other game but one in GG...

I was fine with AC story. In all honesty unless you played the ones before it will be kinda boring simply because of the layout

I've only ever played #Reload's story with a fan translation and I really enjoyed all the characters there. I don't know what the exact writing process at ASW is though, so I'm not sure whether to expect writing like #R (which I liked), AC (which people seem to say is bad), BBCT (which I actually thought was alright) or CS-CP (which I couldn't stomach). I guess we'll only know when the English version is out.

As for who to main, I have no idea. My favorite character was Robo-Ky so that's obviously not an option. And going by my experience with BB and P4A where I thought I'd like one character and ended up liking someone I didn't even know of before buying the game, I'll just wait until I have the game in my hands. There's always at least one character I enjoy playing and usually it's 3-4 that click with me. I mean, it's an ASW game. Chances are the starting roster will have every "category" covered and all future characters will be more and more niche until you eventually get that perfect one for you.

Why do people care so much about story mode is beyond me. Personally i find fighting games stories pretty worthless and stupid (gg/bb/doa/sc/sf/tekken) but guess i'm just the minority.

maybe you will find a new character to like, I really only played A.B.A. in the older games and im still very excited for this new game

Not that easy when you're fond on just one character. For example i'm sure i'd drop BB if they removed Litchi from BB(4).

Well she is a terrible person herself so... Ya know. But yeah seconds after posting that realized I forgot someone. Still only 4 fems in the entire roster.

Well Hnk has only 1 and thats best 2d fighter there is. Less females equals better game ;)

They care about it when they know that X character is not going to be there because of plot relevance, I've read a lot people saying the same stuff so it's not like you're alone, but hey... If it has a good story is better than not having it. #R was my first GG and I really enjoyed it thanks to that, because it was "weird" for a fighting game to have good plot and characters compared to anything seen previously, and back then I didn't even have a PC, I didn't even know what I was doing when playing X character at all, doing story modes again and again and never got tired because it was fun, and fighting against I-No Boss in Arcade mode more than 4 hours in a day just because I didn't know how to dodge Megalomania, and still having a lot of fun.

I don't usually care about a fighter's story, with the exception of GG, and even then I only care because of the characters. I love some of the relationships between characters in games, and that always ties back into story. Besides that, I don't think I'd care too much to be completely honest.

I do have to give GG and BB some credit for having pretty unique stories, compared to most other fighters.

haha, Gamespot previewing BB saying, I think Arakune is a bunch of insects that wanted to join the tourney. I was done.

Seriously, I've been neglecting story modes after CT and CS1 so I'll play GGs.

That's what made #R so interesting to me. Whether it was canon relationships or alternate ending ones (like Venom and Millia having a drunk fight in front of Jam's food stand), there were so many interesting agendas and character groups. It felt like it was a cast made up of characters each doing their own thing, rather than the entire cast converging towards the one and same goal (like say, beating Shao-Kahn in old MKs). The story mode made me even stop hating Axl's guts. I mean, what was the end goal of #R even? I-no's causing crap and she needs to be stopped? That was like the least memorable thing.

That's exactly what I love about Guilty Gear's story. All the characters are unique, and have their own goals. Yeah a lot of them have strong ties with some of the others, but in the end they're individuals. It makes playing through every story fun, because even if the stories crossed at points, they were still different.

You can have a good time watching Sol hunt down I-no, then minutes later deal with Bridget's antics. It's a great way to handle story mode, keeps things interesting.

Bridget was the sole reason I was interested in GG in the first place. The fact that it's a guy who was raised as girl and still dresses like a girl, a nun at that, while fighting with yoyos and a toy bear is intriguing. He's one of those characters that's hard to use and win with, but when you execute his combos and actually win matches with him, it's so rewarding. None of the other GG characters had fighting styles or designs that interested me enough to want to learn them. I was going to be basic and learn Sol Badguy, but he's just so...basic, like most main characters in fighting games and I didn't like that.

TL:DR; I need Bridget in the game for me to even consider touching it. He's the only character I will ever use in GG and that's not changing.

Well i am not really familiar with the Shotacons mindset.

Mugen is playing Sol and thanks to Bridget his screen control is the best among all the Sol players IMO.

If think that Sol is too simple for you then you can play Zato or Ramlathal.

As much as I hate to fan the flames of an argument we could easily do without, I have to voice my support for the AC+ story mode.  Most of the plotlines were absolutely ridiculous and wild and pure fun—in other words, the epitome of Guilty Gear.  I'm sorry if anyone thought there weren't enough scenes with dudes waxing philosophic about what it means to be strong while meditating under waterfalls for fifteen minutes, but if you couldn't derive even the smallest amount of enjoyment from Chipp beating the shit out of people to get votes so he could become president, then you're playing the wrong game.  Switch to BB if you want a fighter with a super melodramatic plot.  Just make sure you come back to GG if you need some levity, because Robo-Ky's story alone was funnier than nearly all the BB gag reels combined.

For god's sake, Slayer goes on a poignant farewell tour before deciding he'd rather stick around and recreate Project Mayhem from Fight Club.  How can you not love that?!

Edit: I know I know, story discussion in Zepp Meseum.  I'm just saying.

I don't even see how Sol is basic either.  He has shit that few other shotos have like the slide and the command grab, and his play style is a lot different than most others are.  If anything I'd call Ky the "basic" one but even that's debatable now with his new system.
