TheRealBobMan Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I think they would have focused on optimizing things for the PS3 port and cut out parts of the background, or downscale the textures in the background, cut back on the particle effects, etc. They wouldn't allow cross play if the PS3 version buggers out frequently and experiences frame drops. With the way the art looks, you probably wouldn't need extremely high-res textures anyway. But that has put something in the back of my mind for some time. PS3 has that inherent 3-frame input lag. I don't know if the PS4 has that, but it's probably going to have the 3 frames (even if it could manage 1-2 frames) just to have parity with the PS3 version. If PS4 can manage 1-2 frames of input lag, it's very likely that they'll drop PS3 support with the next game, or possibly the following one.... I'd say that depends on sales. Lots of PS4s out there already, but this demographic already spends a lot of money to get arcade sticks, and can be really fickle about what they're playing. Dropping support for a console too early will cut out a lot of sales, though I think ArcSys cares enough to want to reduce the input lag as much as possible, while also caring enough to not want one version of the game to be the preferred version since that would be bad publicity. Why spend time developing the PS3 version if it would be the "inferior" one, which then wouldn't sell to the target demographic? Anyway, that's speculation based on wondering what the PS4 can do. I wouldn't worry too much. I'm glad that people were able to play the PS3 version at TGS since they only had the PS4 version at E3. Part of me was worried that the PS3 version could get delayed since they never really talked about it, though I also figured it was just marketing (wanting to show it off at 1080p so it'd look its best).
CCVengeance Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ0Y4TH_YSM Nothing particularly new but their is a surprise, non-game related ending.

From my research, the PS3's input delay is related to the V-sync that is enforced by the console. For PS4 it looks like developers can choose to turn V-sync off, but whether that'll be the case in Xrd remains to be seen. We'll know in just a few weeks how the input delay situation looks on PS4 though. Once the Xrd demo is released I'll run some tests and see how it pans out compared to prior GG titles.

Appledash- Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I'm always so late to these discussions. Sin is actually pretty interesting looking to me. His specials look really good and he has excellent mobility. Getting hungry in the middle of a match looks like a death sentence, though I don't think it will be much of a problem because of how easy it is to cancel for food and how much the bar fills up. Does anyone know if you can rc the hungry animation. or anything like that? His fireball super seems like it could be really good, like Ram's Toranshi I guess? El looks so cool. In a very broad sense I guess she did end up kind of similar to Ram in that she looks like she has a flexible offense with strong elements of space control and good mobility, though her kit is extremely different. Her bouquet rocket moves seem interesting since one of them is very divekick-like. Didn't see any dp's or anything like that so her defense would be more about avoiding her opponent's pressure rather than getting out of it. Why is the Cake super so awesomely cinematic? I think the only other super like that is Heavenly Pot Buster, facial expressions and all. I think I would greatly enjoy it if El was so obsessed with getting married that she asks everyone she beats to sign the certificate. Probably not though. I need to see her hit Ram with her IK. And Zato now that I think about it. I mean, Zato with heart eyes. Sent from my RM-917_nam_usa_100 using Tapatalk

TheRealBobMan Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Check the Elphelt section of the Xrd forum for a picture of her Kanchou face. Pachi's Elphelt got kanchou'd 4/5 times during a single match against Ginzou (might have his name mistaken) on the stream last night. On a related note, FAB beat his Sin. Xrd Pot is probably going to get nerfed when the console version drops. Anyone know if there's footage of Elphelt's IK yet?

Extra input delay being inherent to PS3 games was already proven to be a myth. Investigation has shown that the extra 1-2 frames (not 3) of delay in the PS3 versions of SFIV is due to the v-sync that's been designed for NVIDIA cards. The XBox 360 version doesn't use this. In fact, the XBox 360 version has been shown to be faster by 1 frame compared to the arcade version, which also runs NVIDIA cards and software v-sync. Further proof can be found in the PC versions where tests have shown that turning on v-sync actually adds 1-2 frames of input delay, depending on the system specs. The real reason why the XBox 360 version of Capcom games is preferred is because the PS3 versions suffer from occasional slow down that messes up with people's timing on certain stages.

Why are you mentioning SF4 in this discussion at all? We were discussing how GG is handled across multiple platforms. FYI, BobMan is most likely referring to this thread when giving the 3F delay number for the PS3 version of GGXX.
TheRealBobMan Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Teyah is correct, though I also remember Mike Z posting about the 3-frame minimum input lag back when Skullgirls was either in development or right after it came out. All games are going to need a minimum of X frames to process what buttons you've pushed, and PS3's minimum is 3 frames for a 60fps game (pretty sure this applies to any game on the PS3, though it could be longer if the game was made that way).

I was assuming that you were talking about the supposed PS3 only lag compared to the 360, which is the myth I was referring too. Yes, every system has some inherent processing time which leads to some delay, but for the longest time, everyone believed that the PS3 added an extra frame when in fact, it was just the software's fault, something which the folks over at SRK TT worked hard to disprove. In any case, considering that Arc most likely knew the target home consoles for the game, and the fact that the deals with Sony were most likely things that didn't happen overnight (I assume they were in talks for some time), it's most likely that they had factored this in the game's development. I'm more worried about slowdown which is something that they have less control over, especially once players start filling the screen and doing all sorts of stuff. Cross platform, this is most likely going to result in the PS4 version having to add some delay, or slowing down to match the PS3 version (unless they've actually moved with the times and are using GGPO style code, where they might be able to cover that with a rollback).
ElvenShadow Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Here you guys go. King of Heart recorded me trying out Sin for the first time against one of the booth girls. You can see his IK at the end too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDmOYUqI0Z8
ElvenShadow Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-NFd90ho88&feature=youtu.be Here's another match I recorded of Elphelt vs Millia. It isn't really high level play or anything but you can see how the game runs on PS3. Also a bonus. Dude playing Holy Orders on guitar outside of TGS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kyt_PaufJZI&feature=youtu.be
Rhannmah Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 ^^ It's really hard to tell from Shakycam vids, or youtube vids in general, but what I'm interested in knowing about the PS3 version is if it's a solid 60 fps with no framedrops. From what you've seen, does the PS3 version have any problems in terms of framerate?

Dude playing Holy Orders on guitar outside of TGS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kyt_PaufJZI&feature=youtu.be lol I was about to post this hahaha. Thanks for the vid. It's a good sign that the viewers didn't realize it was the PS3 version until reading Playstation 3.
MasterXDrake Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I think they should remove cross-play so the PS4 version won't have to suffer.
ElvenShadow Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Yea that was me and King of Heart talking in the vid. I watched the whole match without realizing it was PS3 until he pointed it out at the end. So no, I haven't noticed any frame drop issues. It looked exactly the same as the arcade version in person.
Klaige Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Looks good, this tones down some of my fears that the PS3 version wouldn't be up to snuff. Aside from just not really having the extra cash to get a ps4+stick right now I think it's really important the PS3 version be a top level arcade port, as it's asking a pretty huge investment for potential new players to get everything required to play the PS4 version.
Pichy Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I have no idea where I should put this or if I should make my own thread, but I've decided to write about aspects of Guilty Gear's gameplay that I have noticed people struggling to understand over the years. I opted for combo discussion first since I get more confusion from people at that than any other subject. Next will be the importance of FD braking and the ability to jump cancel on block. http://pichyandpals.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/lets-learn-guilty-gear-part-1-combos.html
Dogphone Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Thanks for all the vids guys. lol I was about to post this hahaha. Thanks for the vid. It's a good sign that the viewers didn't realize it was the PS3 version until reading Playstation 3. Well now I can't help but wonder, if there's already a working and legit PS3 version then what's their excuse for not putting that up too as a demo? (Yeah I'm still kinda salty about this)
SolxBaiken Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Promotion. Sony determines PS+ content, and if the last 3 trade conferences have taught me anything; Sony is essentially done promoting anything PS3 related [sure more content is coming, but if it doesn't have a PS4 or Vita port, they themselves won't be pushing it]
