NobleSavage Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Yo, coming from a Street Fighter background (played Guy and Cody but never really had a main character), although I was never good at the game mainly because I didn't have the time to put in the work (use to work Monday - Friday 3:00pm-11:30pm), and when I did have free time I was always watching footage. Never really divided my time up to put in the work. I always wanted to get into the Guilty Gear games, but I didn't know anyone else was playing, but I found out that my brother-in-law has been playing so now I have a reason to play, not to mention I saw the trailer to Guilty Gear Xrd, and it really made me want to learn this game even more. How is the netcode when it comes to Guilty Gear? I have both the 360 and PS3 and have no problems getting it for both systems, but I do want to know if most people play it on the 360 or PS3? (Same for BlazBlue and Persona 4 Arena)
InWithTheAshes Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Guilty netcode is currently pretty sucky, although there has been promised better effectiveness within that regard once the +R patch arrives. In the meantime, you've got at least one person to play the game with offline with, so that's better than the majority of the U.K. . Even if your both beginners it's probably better than netplay, especially Guilty netplay. I'd advise to go look in the match finder thread for Michigan for more competition: Aparrently their scene is mostly based in the east, although there's not much Guilty interest there last time I checked (they mostly seem to play BB/P4A).
NobleSavage Posted May 25, 2013 Author Posted May 25, 2013 Alright, will do thanks. One more question if you don't mind. Execution speaking, how are Johnny, Hakumen, and Akihiko? I just recently switched over to stick and I have a knack for going straight to characters that require a lot of work. I don't mind it at all (Guy requires a lot of work, but I found him to be fun), just want to know what I'm getting myself into.
InWithTheAshes Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Johnny actually apparently contains a lot of one frame links within his combo's, although his FRC's are of average difficulty. This is all secondhand information on my part though, so I'd believe it best to wait for an actual Johnny player to come along, or just try his stuff out anyway and see how it works for you. Haku and Aki I've only ever played in training mode, but they don't seem particularly hard execution wise. Again though, I'd suggest you wait for someone who actually plays them to give something more definitive (one of the Michigan guys is the Akihiko mod, I'd say he's able to provide a lot of information on that and other Aki aspects).
qwerty Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Johnny has links? Could've fooled me. I'd say Johnny is slightly more demanding than the average GG character due to stuff like MSDJ and JI KJ combos. For the most part, though, Johnny isn't that bad. Basic air combos (KSKSDE and the like) do plenty of damage, and once you learn more advanced stuff you can increase your damage output even more. Enkasu isn't that hard for the most part, either. The few links Johnny does have mostly involve Mist Canceling HS normals at Level 3/on counter hit, but that's all getting 1F easier in +R. You have great taste in characters, OP.
InWithTheAshes Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Lol. Like I said, this was secondhand information (or maybe secondhand impressions from his boards) I had. Thanks for confirming my inaccuracy.
Ctrlaltwtf Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 (edited) Well, +R Johnny does 6P > High coin > f.S which is a 1F link I believe. It sure as hell feels like one. Thankfully you can just do 5K if you're feeling like wussing out. Air Overdrive > dash > c.S is pretty fucking tight too. 5K > c.S > 5H > Killer Joker Travel > Killer Joker is pretty hard as well. Regardless, you should be playing Johnny anyway because Johnny is the coolest GG character. Edited May 25, 2013 by Ctrlaltwtf
NobleSavage Posted May 25, 2013 Author Posted May 25, 2013 (edited) You have great taste in characters, OP. I will always go for the cool characters first whether they are low or top tier. (I ignore tiers for the most part) I saw a video in the Johnny forum, and it got me hype (which is pretty hard to do for me) Appreciate the input everyone. Thanks a lot. Airk Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Guilty netcode is currently pretty sucky, although there has been promised better effectiveness within that regard once the +R patch arrives. I think this only tells half the story; GG was designed for arcades, zero latency, blah blah etc. It has precise input timing on a lot of things with that expectation built in. Modern games (which GG currently is not, though might become with the release of Xrd) have a lot things that are not, strictly speaking, "netcode" that make the game work better in higher latency environments - whether that's SF4's larger reversal window, BB's 5 frame advanced input buffer or even BB's longer hitstop. So, I don't really think people should expect any magic when +R arrives. There's more to how a game plays over the internet than the netcode, and GG has the cards stacked against it in that regard.
