You guys haven't played Persona 2. I heavily doubt it's simply for gameplay reasons, though that's part of it.

I'll admit I haven't. I'll play it after Persona 1, which I'll beat whenever I can deal with how awful the combat and encounter rate are.

But from what I've heard, aren't shadows in Persona 2

illusions by Nyarlathotep to mess with the main characters or something like that?

Which is why it seems

people assume Nyarlathotep is the Malevolent Entity

in Persona 4 Arena.

I do wonder, though, if we'll finally see the first half of Persona mixed with the second half, if you know what I mean. They've been seemingly distant until P4A...

Yes, that's what shadows were in P2.

However, the mimics were still "them," in that they still reflected the dark side of the person in question. The characters admit "you are me" just like in P4 at the end of each such encounter.

Personally, given how badly some of the characters in P4A were put off by their "fake" shadow, it's not like the malevolent entity is completely off base in its accusations. I see

Nyarlathotep

as one of humanity's universally shared shadows, just like Philemon is the aggregate of mankind's positive potential.

Also, while sparse, there are a few links between P1/2 and P3/P4. P3 in particular has the older character show up on some of the random TV specials in the dorm lobby certain days in the year. And Kirijo is explicitly stated to have been an offshoot of the Nanjo group. I'd LOVE to see one or more P1/2 character in a fighting game though.

Neat. Is there a particular benefit to making them Rekka instead of just regular specials? Or is it that they simply decided to make them into Rekka with simpler inputs to them for the sake of differentiation?

I would say normal Sho has it better, since it gives him more options. For example, 236A or B with Sho is charging slash attack, but 214A or B is an uppercut. You can do the uppercut without the charging slash.

I'd say it's more of a trade-off between the two in that case. Sho has more options with his specials, while PerShona gains more tools via Tsukiyomi. Whether one is better than the other remains to be seen.

So, no word on PerShona's IK?

Looks like someone decided to put Terumi and Hakumen's Astrals together.

I was thinking more of Devoured by Darkness mixed with Hakumen's AH.

And who did you want SHO's BB palette being?

I am betting Adachi is going to get Terumi, so yeah

...Noticed that PerShona's Survival Knife special isn't a [4]6 charge motion. Instead it is a 236A/B one...

It also has visibly longer startup and recovery, so expect for it to have different applications for the character.

Ok now I see DbD in it too, it's just the whole "Final slash erasing them from existence" bit was what made me compare it to Terumi's.

Yeah you know what I was hoping for in terms of reference colors, you're probably right about that.

Why hasn't anyone made a "shotime" pun yet? His IK is just begging for it.

SHO TAIMU

Shos how imaginative people are here.

Can't wait to see the guy in action...wondering if he'll significantly outclass regular Sho seeing that he definitely has more options.

P.Sho KI

I have the weirdest boner right now :kitty:. Very, very nice. We get the Haku-men counter, Ragna's color and feel with Terumi's mad-hammy acting and mercilessness. Color me impressed.

It's not a counter. Just has long startup, not sure about invuln.

Ah right, I see it now. I must have confused it since S.Akihiko did his parry thing and mistook it as though PerShona's IK had a guard point. Oh well, still looks boss.

The instant kill looks pretty damn cool but also completely useless even by IK standards!

(Still better than Teddie's though, that's so bad lol)

haha, akihiko's shadow is still visible after the instant kill is over

I'm sure it's just a glitch, but it actually gave me a bit of a creepy feeling.
