Verimeloni Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) After the patch you can end your strings safely in OD with Buster or semi-safely (eats mashing beats DPs) with Sentinel... ...or is it Valiant/Hornet only like Cobra? Kinkuli-chan? Edited March 11, 2014 by Verimeloni
greatfernman Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I expected nerfs to negative penalty resistance and his backdash but these aren't as bad as I thought they'd be. I'm liking his changes overall
zeth07 Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 After the patch you can end your strings safely in OD with Buster or semi-safely (eats mashing beats DPs) with Sentinel... ...or is it Valiant/Hornet only like Cobra? Kinkuli-chan? It should be any special. And Cobra isn't special canceled into Valiant/Hornet, it's a link. It works because you are hitting the opponent "in the air" with Cobra which has 36f of hitstun, while Valiant has 26f of startup / Hornet has 27f. Compare that to Cobra's 21f of ground hitstun and you can see why it only works when you catch them OTG with TCL.
Verimeloni Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 You're right. I only brought up Cobra because you can only link to Hornet or Valiant from Tiger or Cobra, not Gustaf or Sentinel or Phalanx. The Azraels in Jaepo (if I remember correctly) only cancelled D moves in OD to Valiant, so I was wondering if that was the case.
Kinkuli Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) I would probably just do 5D gustaf to 5A 2D BHS in OD tbh. If that works that is. But that's pretty obvious and i don't think Azrael has any air tight setups to 5D so...Probably just better to use OD for comboing and leave gimmicks at the shelf(if they happen to work sure go ahead, abuse them!). BD duration is like psh whatever. Don't give a fuck. Might wanna tone down BDing in corner though, if one happens to be a fan of that. Hornet got nerfed and buffed. I like the chaser change. Not sure how to feel about losing dual weakpoints. To be fair i only used the corner one which you get with UW and throw, so i don't really mind that much. Either way i'm probably gonna head to Hachioji to on 19th to test out stuff and maybe get games in. I really want to see the cobra changes in action. It's probably really minor but still. Just want to make sure it doesn't fuck up corner combos or combos to valiant but i'm pretty sure no(there might be examples in jaepo vids but meh, don't remember ;(). PS: Shoutouts to people being salty at Azrael BD in general thread. Edited March 11, 2014 by Kinkuli
Verimeloni Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 It's going to be easier to do 22C after 3C which is nice. The Cobra change I think will change the momentum delivered to airborne opponents into more horizontal than vertical which it is in CP 1.0. This'll make it easier to do the IAD > j.A followup and make it harder for you to accidentally cross-up in the corner, I hope. If it fixes TC > Valiant on Litchi and co. = win.
LordSpectreX Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 All these quality of life changes. After using Arakune every game before this, a character getting relatively minor changes is actually a bit of shock.
TheArm05 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Azrael changes looking great. Lots of QoL buffs. I am really happy about the Hornet Chaser change. That was one of the most annoying ways to drop combos. Any other Az players going to Final Round? I'll be there. Hopefully I get on stream so I can get some input on my play.
Kinkuli Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Early impression of azrael is that he is largely the same as in "vanilla".  Only noticed Sentinel dump input change, Growler's new blowback arc, Hornet bunker changes and OD changes. No idea how the cobra change should work, dogura had no idea either. BD change is pretty much unnoticeable.  Blowback arc for Growler looked funky and it looked like tao could maybe still punish growler but dogura told me that that is not the case so all is good in the kingdom now.  Tried 2 dual weakpoint combo's with new hornet. From midscreen Forward throw - 6A iad jC - bunker - 5A TC valiant still worked atleast on tao. Feels harder to do and might be character specific. Not sure it it's worth the effort. In corner forward throw - 5D - bunker - 5A - aerial still works. Not sure about all chars but litchi and tao got hit and i'm pretty sure it will work on every char.  Like said didn't notice anything new on cobra, still had to time leopard after cobra hit. So uh, no idea about this one.  OD changes are sweet. Impossible to drop older combos and it actually opened new routes. Dogura posted something like 5A 5B ODc 2C 6D sentinel 5D sentinel valiant 5Cx4 6A stinger, dmg 6100. So i guess more optimal combos will use 6D sentinel 5D sentinel valiant instead of the old 6D 5D valiant route. UB "blockstring" in OD looks like something to 5D gustaf 5A 2D stinger.  New Sentinel input is sweet. I watched a stream earlier and got an idea. Midscreen TCL dash tk sentinel might be thing from now on. It's pretty sweet. Tags rolls, plus on block BUT loses to some reversals like ID (beats all reversals jin has!!!). It might be really good in some matchups.  PS. 2A TC valiant still whiffs on litchi. Most likely same situation with other chars which had this problem.
stickystaines Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 If my opponent blocks divekick while standing, what are my options? What kind of (dis)advantage am i looking at?
Verimeloni Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 If my opponent blocks divekick while standing, what are my options? What kind of (dis)advantage am i looking at? j.2C is one hit attack so the opponent's/your recovery is related to the height you drop down from. The lower you drop from the more you're in advantage, the higher > disadvantage. Â It's very situational but only in rare cases you can start/continue your pressure afterwards. Most of the time BD > neutral is the safest option. Â Don't ab/use it against Hakumen. The second he sees you do it he'll charge 5D until you drop into it.
Kinkuli Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 You can cancel the landing recovery on j2C  to gustaf. You also could just let it rock and push 5A, or block after. If you just do BD every time you're just gonna get punished. If the dive is IB'd then just block.  And only height that matters is if you hit standing or crouching opponent with it. It largely does not matter if you start high or low with the move. The thing has 10f landing recovery anyways and has active frames till you land so yeah.
zeth07 Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Nice job putting the video together Verimeloni.
Verimeloni Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Thanks, I'm pretty sure the OD combos in the video will be useless/nonoptimal in CP 1.1 but hopefully all the other combos work to some extent at least.
Kinkuli Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Soo which azrael player's are gonna head out to EVO this year :3? I registered earlier today so i'm 100% coming now! Only need to book flights and get a room (Help a bro out here, earlier plan was to hook up with kiba but he might not be able to come because of SSS-tier costs, so i need people to share a room with!) Â PS. Wheeeeere is the EVO threaaaaaaadÂ
LegendaryRath Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm only one state over, so it's cheap enough for me to just say "ehh, why not?" Â That puts me in the definitely maybe group. It'll be cool to meet up with some other Azrael players.
TheArm05 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I will be trying to make it out to Evo. Haven't gotten tickets or anything yet but I should be able to go.
Yusuke Urameshi Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I do have a question. How do you guys actually approach good players? Cause I was fighting an very competent Rachel and Hakumen and I just kept getting shut down. And how bad is Gustaf Buster on Instant block?

TheArm05 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I do have a question. How do you guys actually approach good players? Cause I was fighting an very competent Rachel and Hakumen and I just kept getting shut down. And how bad is Gustaf Buster on Instant block?  Gustaf is -2 on IB. So you will lose if you both mash 5A.  As far as approaching with Azrael that is the hard part in most matchups. Against Rachel being patient is good. Growler eats Lobelia and prevents the pole formation. Growler eats George free too but most Rachels won't use it in neutral. Pumpkin is what you really have to worry about since you can't really reliably Growler it and you are so large. Once you have some phalanx stocks you can punish grounded summons/lobelias and move forward. If you get in on her she crumbles.  Hakumen has you beat in neutral so it is somewhat hard. His j.C crushes most approaches and counters are really annoying for Azrael. This match you need to play the aggressor but don't go crazy. Mix in throws more than usual on oki/when going for mixups. Don't fuck with Agito either. Otherwise just play solid and it isn't too bad.  Tried to keep that brief since these are matchup thread things. Post in those threads and we can go in more detail.
Warhound Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Finally got my hands on the game, want to get into learning Azrael....but damn, I did not think this guy was an execution heavy character. Or rather, more execution heavy than I'm used to.
Fatalis Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Once you have practiced enough, the fact that he doesn't have typical gatlings will stop to matter, as you'll understand the timings well enough that they're not as much of a hinderence anymore. Â Once you get past that, most of his combos aren't too difficult, compared to some other characters.
