Have you thought about picking up a sub to deal with the frustrations? Something not as complex to play around on when you're feeling overwhelmed?

Posted

I have no subs either, however I don't mind the changes as much. The 22A combos can be a pain online, but I ultimately enjoy all of the freedoms I have now with the phase shifts.

I don't play a lot online, figured there is no point if im going to get wrecked, so practice it is till i improve a bit.

Problem is, the whole thing is so much different. I tried a lot to throw away my mashing habits in combos in CSEX, but no i feel that i have to adopt them again. Basically everything i got from CSEX seems to hurt me now, its like things got a thousand times more complicated.

Yeah, it seems you have to really time hits sometimes and somewhat mash others. It took me a lot of practice in the first few weeks to finally get a decent feel of what I'm doing. I'm still not great at it, but I enjoy the different matchups and playing online helped a lot. Training offline is great for combos and pressure, but matchup experience may be the problem. All of the characters feel a bit different to fight than EX to me.

Between using a D-pad and my joystick doing 22A works better on the stick. It was something I noticed last weekend when I had to use the pad the majority of the time at my friend's place. If you're not using a stick maybe that's something to think about.

I originally got my first one because I wanted to get better with Hakumen, but at the time I was like "Oh dear god there's BUTTONS!", so I went to Lambda because I could get away with pressing D the majority of the time.

Freedom of movement though after getting used to the stick however has really paid off.

I completely understand how many are frusterated at how much playing Nu (previously lambda) has changed in this game, but personally I am having a blast. While I do miss Lambda, I got to a point where I felt it was hard for me to mix things up; I felt I would always devolve into the same combo's and set-ups and for simply the sake of variety, I would try to spice it up once in a while. I always enjoyed playing lambda but I welcome this change even if it comes at the cost of a difficulty curve. Mode changing mid combo is insanely satisfying (albeit hard to time). Even something as simple as (Luna)5DD - 236B - 22A - 5DD - 4DD - 236D is insanely fun.

I'm aware it's not recommended but I've had pretty decent success running Luna mode at neutral; anytime I have a combo that end in 236B like in Extend I can prolong by tacking on a phase shift, 5DD, 4DD, and 236D (And even more if they are in the corner). There's probably better ways to capitalize on this but I'm still learning. In Luna mode there's always the oki games with 236D as well which I enjoy (No cancelling 2147D in Luna anymore, though!). It's been a blast learning how to use all these tools and in the end, I feel like our play in general will improve once we master it. The entry curve has definitely gotten steeper.

EDIT: I also wanted to add I've had no trouble with 22A on a pad (Using the commander 3 pro). I never feel inhibited in movement on it and throughout the years I've never been able to use a stick efficiently.

There, i got it of my chest.

I hate this thing. I hate it with the righteous fury of a thousand hakumens.

I felt the same way too. Was bouncing between Nu, Mu and Terumi. Was getting bodied to hell and back. Now that I went back to Nu, I realized the mode change isn't too bad once you practice as much as you can.

That flip kick is still a pain though. i wish there were damaging combos that didn't involve that stupid thing...at least until i get the hang of the motions.

Not yet. I plan to get to work on one over the Christmas holiday though.

also eho are the best nu's to watch?

Protos, Yoshiki and Tsukasa are all good choices. I've picked out a few of their matches from the OP, but there's a lot more in there if you're interested.

I actually have a playlist for Protos videos. Most are pretty recent. He does do Luna in neutral sometimes. It seems like it would be pretty effective in certain match-ups. Plus, people aren't exactly used to Luna doing 5D > 236A for some reason. I see it work plenty of times in Protos' videos. Plus, Luna has some sick mobility thanks to 236A and can get to the other end of the screen really quick to pick up hits into 236D. Also, some of the hit confirms are a bit easier to do in Luna and the mode does more damage. So I can see Luna in neutral working really well.

I think the guide should have beginner combos, optimal combos, recommended combos, oki, set-ups, pressure, and gameplan.

What would a guide consist? A video? A fleshed out wiki? Or a really good post in a thread?

All three might not be a bad idea to be honest. As long as we don't end up overlapping our information, I think the different mediums could work pretty well for the different parts of the guide (e.g. move descriptions and uses in the wiki, combos and oki examples in a video and general gameplan in a forum post).

I think the guide should have beginner combos, optimal combos, recommended combos, oki, set-ups, pressure, and gameplan.

If anyone else has some input on what they'd like to see, speak up. I'll be taking notes now and getting to work over Christmas.

I'll use Luna at neutral for some matchups, Hakumen included. You do need to switch to dia to keep some gravity on him though. As I said before, I really enjoy the mode switch as it gives us a lot of freedom for more than one style of play and more tools in our arsenal to keep the game fresh. A guide to Nu for beginners wouldn't be a bad idea. I've seen a lot of the Nus that started at launch have moved to other characters due to the changes made to her. There's a lot to keep track of when you're playing compared to other characters and some type of guidance would be really helpful for people. I don't mind helping out any way I can as well.

yeah, i actually am in the same position. Got some progress with the mode change, now i can actually do the basic combos that involve it. Also you can practise a lot better after you get the frustration of your chest, who would have thought :S

But my left hand is in shambles. Seriously, it hurts like fuck.

And oh God, that flip is so annoying. I can do it OK raw, but at combos it always comes out as cavalier or 3C :(

Same with me. Well, at least I can put up a fight with her now.

The fix for 3C coming out if you want 623C is to input 623 fast. If you wait to long, the game doesn't save the buffer for 623. You don't have to be incredibly fast though, you just can't wait that long.

I'll work on that then. Either 3C comes out for me accidentally or a random tackle. :[

Are you guys using pads or something? I rarely get a 236C, but never a 3C. Using a stick with a square gate makes it really easy.

The main reason I switched to stick was so that I could play proficiently whenever I'm overseas in the arcades. It's a pain to sit at a cab and know you could do better, but have to fight the controller before you can fight the guy across from you. It also helped a lot when it came to playing other fighting games and holding a spear with Dizzy in GG.
