TAI-X Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 First shots have been fired in the Kokonoe ban controversy. Don't misunderstand and think that she's suddenly banned everywhere, but other event organizers will be much more likely to consider banning her after this. http://shoryuken.com/2014/01/21/kokonoe-banned-from-blazblue-chronophantasma-competition-at-rebel-up-community-effort-orlandos-alex-jebailey-and-levelup-series-alex-valle-asking-for-community-feedback/ Prominent Arc System Works streamer Joshua “Jyosua” Moore, who regularly handles broadcasts at event like The Runback, announced this morning that Kokonoe is officially banned from all Rebel Up (a bi-weekly tournament series held at Super Arcade) events for the foreseeable future. He mentioned that he is also in talks with the folks at Level|Up Series to ban her at The Runback and SoCal Regionals 2014. In response to this, Community Effort Orlando’s Alex Jebailey gathered details from Moore and Team Spooky’s Josh “Nerdjosh” Jodoin, the latter a Kokonoe player himself, about the situation. Some of the issues they find with the character include her blockstring infinite, various Black Hole setups that are inescapable for much of the cast, and guaranteed touch-of-death combos from anywhere on the screen. As for me, I am no longer going to main her, as I do not play banned characters and I can agree with most of the arguments for her ban. I wonder why Arc is taking so long to add the CP console characters to the arcade version. They will most likely undergo a major rebalancing when that happens, since arcades are where all the real competitive play happens in Japan.
Tokkan Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I wonder why Arc is taking so long to add the CP console characters to the arcade version. The obvious answer is because they're working on Xrd and P4U2. The obvious conclusion is that we shouldn't discuss that until an actual BBCP2 is announced because there's simply no information to go by.
TAI-X Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 I thought Arc had mostly separate teams working on the BB, GG and P4U series. You're probably right though.
STenSatsu Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 It's been a while, but were Makoto/Valk/Plat added into CS1 arcades prior to the CS2 rebalance? As far as the ban goes, meh. Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. The same players are likely to keep winning whether they do it with Koko, Valk, Ragna, or whoever. I don't think I saw a single Koko win a tourney that wasn't already in competition for the top spot without her.
Ventus Tatshima Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Aren't you guys taking this ban Koko thing too far
Ventus Tatshima Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Like i said: Aren't you guys taking this too far?
dualseeker Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 It's not like this ban is everywhere; we'll have to wait to see how other tournament organizers handle this. I don't think it's taking it too far; there are definite grounds FOR her being banned. Only thing I'll say is that this may be a bit too soon to do. I'd like to have more tournaments happen before we decide whether or not to ban her. As far as I know, there hasn't been any tournament results that indicate her heavily influencing the bracket.
Errol Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I think people playing Kokonoe want to know if she's going to be banned soon so they can start training with another character. Would be a pretty big setback to play through a couple more tournaments, only to find out that she's going to be banned before EVO, etc.
mAc Chaos Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Even if she gets banned, worst case it can always be lifted when the next game hits in a year or so probably. So it's not the end of the world.
PozerWolf Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Even if she gets banned, worst case it can always be lifted when the next game hits in a year or so probably. So it's not the end of the world. I honestly don't like the whole "well wait for the next version" type attitude. Seriously, worse than Madden players. As for the ban, hmmmmmmm, this is kinda interesting. I made the topic earlier to discuss about her strengths, but if this becomes more accepted I'll have to ban her at my events.
mAc Chaos Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Well, I was saying the opposite. Don't wait for the next version, if you want to do something. But if they rebalance her later she can always get unbanned.

LegendaryRath Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 First and foremost, Tournament Organizers are the ones who have to make these decisions. They don't play every game and can't be expected to understand everything about them all either. Any of them who have to put their foot down on this sort of thing wont do so without feeling that it's the best choice they can make. I highly doubt anyone would make a decision to ban a character without good reason or the backing of the (potential) participants. The TOs who decide to ban (or not to ban) Kokonoe are undoubtedly doing their research, asking their community, and anything else they feel they need in order to make that decision. Will some people stop going to tournaments if she isn't banned? Will Kokonoe players choose not to participate with other characters if she is banned? How much support is on either side? What does the community think as a whole? Alex Jebailey made that poll so he could look for his own answers. We all have our own opinions and (probably strong) feelings, but we should respect whatever decisions are made by TOs. They're the ones risking a backlash, the ones putting their reputation on the line. It's important to them that they be as informed as possible so they can make decisions to help run the best events they can. Respect their decisions. Most of them are on twitter and are open to hearing feedback. Whether you support them or disagree, It's worth speaking up, so long as you try to be polite about it. Personally, I would like to see her banned until she gets an update. Originally, I wanted to wait and see how she evolved and how she performed before I made up my mind, but now I just think she has too much. A few days ago I even decided to drop blazblue competitively because of her. If she is banned from majors I wish to attend, then I'll play the game again. These are just my feelings. I wont make a fuss if she's permitted in most places. I doubt she would be without good reason. Whatever you guys think of her, PLEASE respect the decisions of your tournament organizers. Finally, I want to say to all the people who are annoyed with the seemingly endless discussions about kokonoe that I'm sorry. It probably wont end anytime soon. If you're indifferent and are just sick of hearing about it, try your best to raise your ignore levels to 110 percent. What happens is important to a lot of people right now, so just respect that. It doesn't help anything to say "Haven't we heard enough about Koko-Puff-Zilla already?"
Kurushii Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I thought Arc had mostly separate teams working on the BB, GG and P4U series. You're probably right though. Team Blue: BB and P4U Team Red: GG
Sanger Zonvolt Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Guess I'm not going to be able to enter any tournaments in the future. Might as well move onto another game, when's P4A Ultimax console.

Some people made the switch, but are not liking it. I dunno, hope something gets resolved soon
Pen_Ninja Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Perth, Western Australia are keen to ban her. Where the world has seen my video for a day and a half, Perth has had to put up with it for weeks and it's really making the game look bad. We're holding off for the moment though because people may need the experience if she's not banned at EVO for example but we will ban her if we can see that a majority of other places have. Also if we banned her now, nobody would care what Australia did and it would change nothing T___T
Hecatom Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 This is scrubilicious, i am pretty sure that you fools would have banned Zato on GG#R back in the day (i actually think that you would ban Zaton and Testament on GGAC too) This community is a joke, SMDH...

But at least we'll feel better when top tier X wins a tournament instead of top tier Y!

Zato didn't have infinite blockstrings to gain meter with. Or an unblockable super that leads to a touch of death combo against certain characters in the corner. Peronally, I agree with the decision to ban her at specific tournaments until further notice. Edited January 22, 2014 by Vulcan422
TAI-X Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 Some people are seizing the opportunity to call for a Valkenhayn ban, lol.
