Second Impact Episode 1: [soon]

Second Impact Episode 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrVoTz8eFTw

Q: What is Second Impact?
A: Second Impact is a Gundam EXVS replay and review session run by me that occurs periodically on stream (http://twitch.tv/thebrett) every other Sunday @ 8PM PST. Together we look at user-submitted replays and discuss individual areas of improvement as well as review universal concepts.

Q: Who is Second Impact aimed for?
A: Second Impact is meant to help players who feel they need direction with their path of improvement. If you feel you're at a wall, or are having difficulty figuring out what exactly you're doing wrong, this is meant for you. As a spectator, watching it is helpful for beginning players to see common patterns / points of improvement, etc, and to have a better understanding of the challenges other players struggle with. Intermediate player and above can watch to sharpen their perceptive ability and better understand the larger scope of the game.

Q: I'm really bad / good / mediocre / psychotic - can I submit a replay?
A: The only requirement I ask is that you have reviewed the Beginners Guide thoroughly and have an okay grasp on those basic concepts before submitting. This is so I don't repeat myself, as that's really all you need if you're totally new to the game. You're more than welcome if you think there's something specific you want help with. Just remember that these are like Office Hours - there's not much of a point if you haven't even done the reading / homework.

Q: How do I submit my replay data to you?
A:  I'm now limiting it to ONE replay submission per person. Please specific which replay is the one you want. Only one. Again, only one replay. Copy your game replay file from your PS3 onto your USB, zip up the replay folder and e-mail it to me at kazmadan+secondimpact@gmail.com. Please include Second Impact in the subject, and if possible, mention the suit(s) you are playing / PSN name you use in the e-mail body. It's up to you to find the replay that best expresses what you want looked at. Please use the lock replay function via the Select button. The general deadline for submitting replays is the night before (Saturday). If possible, .zip is preferred over .rar extensions. Please follow these directions correctly to ensure your stuff gets reviewed!

Q: What kind of replays can / should I send?
A: Please send serious replays which you think can help us best identify problems you have. It's important to understand that the more attention you spend to sending in reflective replays the more meaningful feedback you receive. For this reason, I ask that you submit replays where the matchup is even AT BEST for your team, costwise. This means if you're playing a 3k/2k comp, try to submit replays against teams that also have a 3k, or a front 2.5k/1k team. I highly suggest playing TEAM FREE rather than Shuffle if you're looking to submit games, as you have good control over what kind of comps and costs are present. In addition, I ask that you submit replays where feel you are struggling, such as against players of equal or stronger level than you. While we can discuss core concepts even in one-sided games, watching you play your 100% allows us deeper insight into your play, and overall more to talk about. Second Impact is not a place for you to show off on stream. Though we will look at any replay, please be considerate - it's much easier to give you more in-depth advice if you are playing your main suit, for example. While suit-specific advice is often mentioned during Second Impact, it's not primarily a place for me to just teach you Suit X.

Also it's highly recommended that the replays are on Side 7 map, and MANDATORY if you play a suit that interacts with terrain at all (ground suits, zaku kai, etc).

Feel free to discuss, report that you've sent me a replay, ask questions, etc etc in this thread. Please do NOT attach replays in this thread.

We are now LIVE with Second Impact: Full Boost #1 @ twitch.tv/thebrett for Gundam EXVS replay critiques and more!

Should I wait between weeks if I want to give replays of my front play and my back play seperately?

If you're equally serious about each role, if you submit one of each that's probably okay, and if there are too many submissions i'll omit one.

Just a heads up that we're confirmed for Second Impact #2 happening on March 23rd!

Brett, just curious, is there a way that these sessions can be somehow downloaded or viewed later on Twitch since 8pm PST Sun night is...Noon Monday for me >< ?? Or can Twtich material only be viewed live as it's happening?

The archives are always saved. I haven't actually highlighted SI #1 yet but its definitely in the archives still, and I'll be uploading it to youtube soon. I suppose I'll update the OP with links when that happens.

The HIGHLIGHT for both episodes is up on my twitch channel. The YT link for episode 2 is up and reflected in the OP.

What time is this going to happen today (if it is)?  Depending on the time I'd like to watch it live if I can so I can ask questions just to get a better understanding of the game.

Hoping to see some new FB suits on display if there are any replays of them :P

Thanks a) for putting a youtube link, and b) having done this one on a Sat night (Sun morning for me) XD

Edit: Also, Brett, are these meant to be just for individuals, or would I be allowed to submit a video of a match and have both me and my partner critiqued at our positions and overall team play? Too much? Awkward?

You can ask for both players to be critiqued - i will just treat them individually but using the same replay, and possibly cover some points on cooperation / like-mindedness.

Unfortunately I actually have to postpone this Sunday's Second Impact for the following weekend, sorry. Again, the next Second Impact has been moved to Sunday, May 4th. I am also considering moving the day so I have more open Sundays, so if people have a preference on the day, let me know.

Is this still a thing?  I checked the archives for the May 19th one, but I didn't find anything.

I need help brett-sensei :(

I think it is still going as long as people are sending replays.

iirc, there were no Second Impact on May 19th simply because nobody sent any replay.

Wait so is the next one of these tomorrow, or Monday?  I'd be totally down to find a replay to send in, provided I can find a good one :(

Haven't been able to get into a Team Free lobby, so I might have to resort to a Shuffle game that coincidentally had a good team comp or a Ranked game with my scrub friend.

Sorry for the super late response - we are officially moving these to Mondays so I have more free Sundays to work with.

The next official Second Impact will be scheduled for Monday, June 16th. Submissions have been scarce recently though, so if you're looking to submit, letting me know ahead of time will help me reserve the slot.

Recently, what I have been doing is on Second Impact days which have no submissions, if there is interest, I run something we currently call "Office Hours."

During Office Hours, I help out anyone who's interested using specific 1 on 1 training exercises. The main exercise I do with participants is "Tag", an activity where the other player and I take turns chasing each other, where whoever is running is not allowed to fire back. This is mainly focused on improving defensive movement, spacing, where to be greedy, how to chase / run during double lock situations, and helps build a stronger understanding of landing timings. Sometimes if desired, I run basic 1-on-1's to mix things up, depending on the other player's level / etc.

Office Hours occur when there are no Second Impact submissions or after Second Impact is over if there is time / demand for it.

I also offer Office Hours during off-hours if requested in advance.

Yeah, sure!  I haven't submitted since vanilla Second Impact days, over a year ago, and I remember it being super-popular then.  I'd be down to participate in Office Hours too, though I'll have to see what my schedule is like (I'm in Canada ON so IIRC I'm like 3 hours later than you guys).

It's probably too greedy of me to ask, but can I submit more than 1 replay if there's nobody else is submitting?  I have some games of 2.5k-1k with my garbage Ez8 (lag certainly doesn't help with the execution), but I'd like to try to get some of my 3000 front play analyzed too.

I'll definitely be submitting for the 16th, so you'll have at least one submission to go over.
