D.R.F. Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Japanese VAs. As much as I liked hearing ragna scream out piece of shit when he did 5d I couldnt have that in the living room lol. That and JP voice actor (name escapes me) I really like. The english very much deserves respect. Azrael sounds stupid to me though lol
Calamitus Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Japanese since CP. - Can't play with new voice of Hazama - Can't play without Japanese Azrael and the Imperator voices
beanwich Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Japanese VAs. As much as I liked hearing ragna scream out piece of shit when he did 5d I couldnt have that in the living room lol. That and JP voice actor (name escapes me) I really like. The english very much deserves respect. Azrael sounds stupid to me though lol Tomokazu Sugita is Ragna's true JP Voice actor, isn't he? I think that's his name.
D.R.F. Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Tomokazu Sugita is Ragna's true JP Voice actor, isn't he? I think that's his name. Probably. I love his voice ahah.
Hecatom Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Japanese, because the english voices are always horrid
mAc Chaos Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Where do people get the idea that the English voices are always so terrible? They don't sound any different than normal American dubbing for cartoons, if not better. And the voice acting for BlazBlue in general is a cut above most other dubs.
SoWL Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Where do people get the idea that the English voices are always so terrible? Because it's different, duh.
MRydralle Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I frequently keep switching voices in BB. I just like the majority of the characters' voices in both languages. Regarding my mains: I prefer English Tsubaki and I like both of Litchi's voices equally. Persona will forever be in English here.
TekkamanArk Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 BB - English (I like the delivery a lot) P4A - Japanese (I REALLY hate JYB)
Poultrygeist Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 For GG I'd always stick with JPN because it's the voices I'm used to. I fully expect Xrd to get dubbed and I probably won't use it at all. Maybe a little bit just to see what it sounds like.
beanwich Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Probably. I love his voice ahah. Sugita FTW I cannot even express how godlike I find the JP voice actors. I especially exalt Yuichi Nakamura because of all the maniacal laughing that has to be done, must destroy the poor man's throat. I think all of the JP voice actors are amazing at what they do.
BlackYakuzu94 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Where do people get the idea that the English voices are always so terrible? Cuz you're not a true fan unless you like the Japanese voices and hate the English voices, its like a law of anime or something :V
D.R.F. Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I honestly would listen to the english voice actors if I didn't get the jp version, and if people like azrael and noel didnt sound so obnoxious. God I hate eng. Az (no offense)
BlackYakuzu94 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I actually really like D.C. Douglass as Azrael the more I listen to it. Its soft and menacing, but can get loud and violent at the drop of a hat. Noel sucks tho, that's a constant. :P
Appledash- Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I actually like how Noel sounds in cp... English Makoto is one of my favorite things about the dub.
Midnight-Zephyr Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I main Kagura and Mitsuru respectively and find their voices to be truly godlike in english. Especially Kagura, Shinjiro's voice is surprisingly good for the perverted lord of Ikaruga. Im honestly quite indifferent about japanese voices. I will use to them if I have to with no complaints, but if I have the option to use english voices then I'll use them. I will admit, as much as I like their English VA's: Platinum sounds more derp than she did in CS. Especially Sena's battle quotes. "Soupular!" Bullet sounds too quiet, and so does Azrael. (In Azrael's case he also sounds like Nixon when he gets mad. lol) Bang...well we all know about English Bang. (He somehow grew on me in the stupidest way possible.) I actually like how Noel sounds in cp... English Makoto is one of my favorite things about the dub. This too. I dont see Noel as the same whiny mary sue like in the first two games, and Christina Vee did a good job at showing the maturity of the character.
TPPR10 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 In general, I like to keep voices in English. It allows me to actually understand what they are saying. Especially in BB. I cannot tolerate Japanese Taokaka at all.
BlackYakuzu94 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 My friend can't stand Japanese Valkenhayn, though I never understood what was so bad.
LeDom Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Cuz you're not a true fan unless you like the Japanese voices and hate the English voices, its like a law of anime or something :V RANT WARNING (and not pointing fingers at anyone here): And because english is the only language in which they can judge the acting accurately. Let's be fair for a second, the common elitist wouldn't be able to tell a bad jpn voice actor from a good one since the inflection of each word is meaningless if you don't understand the language. And even if one DOES have a grasp of the japanese language, most of the exposure you'd get it is from anime; it's not the language you speak and hear in every day life and therefore it becomes harder to recognize a natural performance or one that is over the top. And while we're on the topic of Noellers, I might get a lot of crap for saying this: but after watching Alter Memory, I came to the realization that I might have jumped on the Noel Hate Train if I heard her japanese voice first (no offense to Kanako Kondo). Cristina Vee's performance somehow made her more likable to me. That being said though, I still have high respect for the japanese cast, I just happen to like the english one better. This isn't the 90s anymore, voice acting has improved tremendously over the years to the point where the ''Sub vs Dub'' debate is now practically 100% subjective. In the end we're all fans of the same thing so no need to start a flamewar over a trivial preference.
Vulcan422 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 It honestly depends on the character. If both VAs are good for a certain character I'll switch up preferences every now and then. Here are my preferences for BlazBlue Ragna: English Jin: English Noel/Nu/Mu: English Rachel: Both Taokaka: ENGLISH Tager: ENGLISH Litchi: English Arakune: Both Bang: Both in CT, English in CS, Japanese in CP Carl: English Hakumen: Both Tsubaki: Both Hazama/Terumi: Japanese in CS, Both in CP Makoto: English Valkenhayn: English Platinum: ENGLISH Relius: Both Amane: English Bullet: Both Azrael: Both Kagura: ENGLISH Kokonoe: English Persona is a different case, it's an Atlus localization so I am automatically inclined to go with English due to their casting choices being mostly spot-on.
LeDom Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I have a few weird cases: I ADORE Laura Bailey's Luna, but her Sena is a different story. I used to like Doug Stone's Valk better because he sounded more like a mild-mannered butler like I picture him whereas he sounded a bit more...cranky in Japanese. But as of CP, it's pretty much the other way around, oddly enough. The pathetic non-filtered howl might have affected my tastes as well. But Tager is the reason why I'll always keep the game in english (biased towards any dub that has Jamieson Price in it)
Aegis High Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 In general, I like to keep voices in English. It allows me to actually understand what they are saying. Especially in BB. I cannot tolerate Japanese Taokaka at all. I'm the oposite, I can't stand Taokaka's english voice. In japanese Taokaka sounds like she is crazy, that's how the character supposed to be. In english she sounds like she's retarded.
Kuraudo_V6 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 A lot of work goes into the English dub for BlazBlue. I love it. Can't rip on either one if I said so myself.
