TheKingOfHerons Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 I've tried reading all this stuff about 5c 2b all that. None of that sticks and frankly these 'combo tutorials' arent really helpful. I'm maining Jin and Kokonoe on Chrono Phantasma, but really challenge mode is not useful to me. Any combo using 3C or WHATEVER the stupid terminolgy is is utterly useless to me since I cannot perform it without doing EVERY ATTACK but it. Its not helpful and frankly I'll wind up buying a device to let me use a 360 controller at this rate. I overall don't understand and a tutorial video IN JAPANESE does not teach me anything but "Oh look they can do this and I cant!" Just need a guy to help me out with jin and koko >3<.
D.R.F. Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 You should go to the Julian boards and ask, since of the two jin is the easier character. Also your having trouble with 3C and such right? Do you know the notation for stuff like that, like why 3C is called that?
Poultrygeist Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 If you want to use a 360 pad buy a converter, but I assure you that at this level of play the controller is not your issue. Really just play with whatever peripheral feels comfortable for you between whatever pad and whatever arcade stick. If notation or terminology confuses you the wiki explains all of that.

I sent you a message but combos isn't your problem right now. I think you should think about pokes, movement and pressure. I think learning your strings will cure a lot-- what moves cancel into what, how to string them long and short, and how to mix them up. Jin has some solid pressure, a nice grab and is one of the characters that kicks my butt. If anything, you are already a pretty patient player and I see attempts at footsies. You like to airdash jump in a lot which is gonna get you kill (it's exposed). Instant airdash instead meaning you airdash right off the ground without jumping straight up. 9(5)6 (diagonal up, neutral and then forward fast). I like that you understand 2D and other things. Just make sure you space these things perfectly (correct range or just out of range where they make walk into it). You need a few buddies (online for me) in your skill range. It will be 1000x times more fun-- and this is how I got into the game and how I learned it.

That said, it's really not that important what you use. If you do some serious practice, diagonals aren't gonna give you problems.

I was trying to get that to go away and it just wouldn't. Well, so far I have this dumb 6C into 2D thing burned into my memory. 6C has to be the biggest opening besides Gale with Jin(623C/D). On the instant dash, I try that rather often and had it down for awhile, but after buying CP JPN, and moving from 360 to PS3 I couldn't posssibly hatew controlers more than I do these ones. I borrowed a different controller form a friend, and I'll see where that takes me. Footies? Strings? Pokes? I tried reading that guide thingy and couldn't understand it. Having the knowledge that you can do the move you want when you want will give you more confidence to play better. When you're not sure if your move is going to come out either because of a controller or lack of practice, it can affect how you play and make you hesitate. That moment of hesitation can decide matches.

CurseSword Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I think that for this games you shouldn't need a sensei. All the knowledge comes when you read a bit and experiment with your character, something like "What if do this instead of that" or "Let's se if this move works after this one". Also, you can play the tutorials and challenges for a better introduction... And then when you know the basics of the game and your characters you can see some videos of matchs and combo movies. Btw, sorry for this very late reply. Hope you can actually play well.
