P4U at MLG

By Guest, in Home,

If you want to go straight to petition, go to the bottom of this, click the link and sign it. Ignore anything about donations.

Now, for those actually interested - my name is Steve, but a lot of you know me as Lord Knight. I'm a two time EVO 2nd place finisher, I've traveled all over America, and even internationally (Canada, Japan, and soon to Brazil) to compete in fighting game tournaments. To be frank, I been had tournament wins.

The main reason I'm posting about this is because we are on the eve of an event I haven't seen since Blazblue: Calamity Trigger's release - an anime fighter that a lot of people are excited to play. If you are a newer member of the community, BBCT was released shortly after SF4, but fell quickly to obscurity in America because it was "too scrubby and broken". This stigma still hangs with BB to this day, despite the game being in its fourth iteration.

Even if you don't want to see the game at MLG for some reason, the first thing I want to push is positive image. Image is important in everything, but especially in the FGC, as a negative image can literally destroy a game before it gets off the ground. Fans of the game are put down, the game gets shoved to the corner at tournaments and sometimes blatantly ignored. Even Capcom games are not safe - look at SFxT. Thankfully, I've seen nothing but positive feedback about P4U leading up to the console release.

On to the main topic at hand - P4U at MLG, and P4U as a tournament game in America in general. Right now, as far as non-Capcom games, we have -

In essence, there's no real flagship anime fighter in America right now. Although P4U clearly has that position in Japan, with the right push, it can gain that title in America as well. There are definitely a couple of issues that need addressing on both sides.

With that being said, there is about a month until the Japanese release, and about six weeks until the North American release. Our first priorities, of course, should be getting and playing the game, and getting a large amount of entrants at Summer Jam. On top of that - sign this petition. MLG begins next year, but show them you have an interest in supporting your game. Right now, they have no 2D titles, just MK, SCV, and likely TTT2 when it's released. Capcom refuses to work with them, and KOF13 failed. Show Atlus that we are willing to support this game, so we can see it at more events at MLG. If we can get a good dialogue and cooperate, P4U can have a long life in the competitive scene.

MLG is a special event to me because it was my first tournament. I attended MLG Philly 2006 to play SSBM, and I've kept up with them for a while. I know what mistakes previous games (including SSBM) have made. We know what to do. For now, please sign this petition, and keep supporting and hyping up this game like you have been for the past couple of months.

See you at Summer Jam.

TL;DR

1) There's no big anime fighter right now, so let's make it P4U.
2) Go to locals and majors in your area!
3) Support tournaments that support anime games, and complain about tournaments that don't (in a civil way).
4) Sign this petition.

Yep you read that right, they added an R to the title. And as the video on the main website shows, they're adding a lot of new moves to existing characters. No word on if this is a complete rebalance or something like BlazBlue's overpowered-for-the-jokes Unlimited characters.
Edit: this appears to be an actual rebalance.

They've also added some UI changes like Eddie's shadow gauge being by the tension meter, invalid combos showing you which hit is invalid, and the stagger icon has a meter showing how much hitstun remains.

They also mention a Location Test on June 2nd in a few locations in Japan. See the official site for details.

http://www.guiltygearx.com/

we've been compiling the changes listed on the site as well as those observed in the video here:

Incoming Patch Shift

By Guest, in Home,

We've known for awhile now that Skullgirls is heading to the PC and that the game (both for consoles and PC) would be getting some adjustments, well recently Mike Z has shown off builds of said changes on The Mix-Up and even more recently on Ultra Chen TV.

Hit the jump for the enormous list of changes and modifications, with significant altering of the game's "Infinite Protection System" and the ingenious addition of a true tournament comprehensive mode! But keep in mind things are still changing and nothing has been finalized, that includes a release date, Mike Z is hoping for mid-June but we'll have to wait to see how realistic that window is.

[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Notes that start with * are from the latest build of the patch.

Tournament Mode__________

All colors are available in tournament mode.
Sparring mode is not available in tournament mode.
Tournament mode starts you off in button check after controller select and before character select so you don’t forget to do it.
Unplugging a controller after a match takes you immediately back to controller select.
Match options cannot be changed off the default options in tournament mode.
Tournament mode will not grant you achievements, so the game will not freeze during gameplay.

System__________
*Five frame leniency buffer has been added for chains, allowing you to do combos with “marvel timing.”
*The second player can now config buttons in in training mode and the options menu.
*Holding down buttons no longer locks inputs in button config.
*As long as the second player has hit one button in button config, button config won’t close for them when another play chooses “accept”.
*Air normals and air command normals are now counted as the same move in the IPS.
Infinite prevention system now treats standing normal, crouching normal, and command normal as the same move. (Example, s.LP, s.MP, s.HP, c.LP, s.MP, s.HP previously wouldn’t trigger the IPS late in a combo. Now it will because s.LP and c.LP are both considered “grounded LP” for the purposes of detecting infinites.) This makes combos shorter and makes the game more “resetty”.
Hard tags now count toward the IPS.
DHCs no longer reset the IPS in some instances.
Random situations in which the IPS triggered without actually performing a loop after a one frame link have been fixed. (One frame resets still do trigger the IPS.)
The throw tech window has been increased by 3 frames after a grab. (Cerebella’s air command grab is not affected.)
Hit-sparks no longer change to pink when comboing an assist character.
When comboing a character after death, they become immediately invincible after the infinite prevention system is triggered, ending the combo.
Assists now take 20% more damage when hit, up from 6%.
DHC freeze glitch has been fixed.
Alpha counter bugs have been fixed.
Forward techs no longer take priority over backward techs.
Redundant achievement freezes have been removed.
Fixed an issue where characters would transform into hit-boxes while art was still streaming. Instead, they briefly turn into de-resed versions of their normal art. Mike Z describes it as “looking all eight bit.”
Assist inputs are now more lenient.
Assists can now be called six frames before you can normally act.
LP+HK and LK+HP are now assist 1 commands for pad players.
Double jumps no longer cancel their momentum when put into pre-block.
Menus now wrap.
Online performance has been tweaked to avoid slowdown on bad connections.
Glitches involving the game freezing when choosing to change stage have been removed.
PS3 matchmaking has been altered. Matchmaking is now more lenient. Only three tiers are available.
New regions are available for matchmaking.
Save data corruption has been fixed.
New training mode options and in-game move-lists are planned.
US vs. EU crashes have been fixed.

Characters__________
Cerebella
* Cerebella has received an across the board damage nerf. Her basic combos do about 1,500-2,000 damage less.
* Jumping MP knocks you down further than it used to. j.MP-j.MK no longer works in the corner.
Excellabella is now easier to input on the custom assist menu.
Merry Go-Rilla does the correct ratio of damage as an assist now.
Excellabella’s range has been increased.
QCB+LP might be added as a secondary motion for her projectile reflect.
Glitches involving a snap back hitting an armored move have been fixed.
360 protection now applies to double jumps so you can spin the stick in the middle of a jump in order to throw when you hit the ground.
Cerebella’s run throw no longer whiffs on crouching Valentine.
Fixed a problem where Cerebella’s run throw would occasionally push back the opponent much further than it was supposed to.

Double
*Hornet Bomber causes untechable knockdown again.
* Hornet Bomber bounces you lower than it used to. It still lets you follow up with a combo but it’s more likely that you will use up your OTG.
* Hornet Bomber cancel window has been reduced.
* Double’s first medium kick has been slowed by one frame.
No longer gains meter while Catelite Lives is active.
Hornet Bomber H no longer has invincibility on start-up.
All versions of Hornet Bomber now cause techable knockdown. (Mike Z made a point several times to say that he personally thinks that the Hornet Bomber changes are unnecessary but he is being forced to make them.)
Jumping HP now causes 27 frames of hit-stun down from 37 frames.
MK followup and HK have both slowed down by 3 frames each and have slightly less hit-stun
Nightmare Legion is 2 frames slower on startup.
Nightmare Legion’s animation is faster.
Nightmare Legion knocks you in the opposite direction after it completes.
Nightmare Legion now causes techable knockdown.
Nightmare Legion’s damage has been reduced.
Nightmare Legion no longer stops when an opponent dies in the middle of it.
Double is no longer invulnerable during Nightmare Legion.

Filia
Air Hair Ball can now be negative edged.
*Trajectory on the first hit of Fenrir Drive has been slightly changed. It can now DHC out of EKG Flatliner.
*Fenrir Drive has been given slightly more recovery.

Ms. Fortune

* Rekkas can no longer be canceled into head recall
Ms. Fortune’s head flies approximately a screen’s length away from you after OMNOMNOM. This happens both when the move ends and when the opponent is hit out of it. It will always fly in the direction opposite of the nearest corner.
Mike Z said another OMNOMNOM change will be made but it is not implemented yet.
The last hits of Headless Furserker Purrage now hits all crouching characters.
Rekka timing is now more lenient.
Bugs involving strange head movement after death have been fixed.

[*] Painwheel

[*]* The tweak to Buer Thresher’s damage scaling has been returned to normal
[*]* Painwheel’s new Lightning Legs style pinion dash can be chosen as a custom assist by pressing down and two kicks.
[*]Minimum damage on Buer Thresher has been tweaked.
[*] Painwheel’s tag in no longer starts you at combo stage 1.
[*]Spin-Dash’s move input has been changed to hold down, mash kicks. It activates when 4 kick buttons are hit within 35 frames. It can be pianoed.
[*] Spin-Dash can be canceled with a punch button.
[*] Painwheels forward heavy kick command normal now has a shorter window for followups.

[*] Parasoul

[*] Tear explosions now scale correctly based on ratio.
[*]Tears now do damage to Marie.
[*] Blockstun from tear explosions are now three frames shorter.

[*] Peacock

[*]* Meter gain on GARBAGE DAY has been normalized. Now builds a third of what it used to.
[*]* Peacock gains a third of the meter she usually would when charging an item drop.
[*]* Peacock’s teleport now ends closer to the opponent than it used to.
[*]* Peacock’s teleport is now four frames slower on recovery, but starts up faster.
[*]Input window for her level 3 is now more lenient
[*] Teleport now has three more frames of recovery

[*] Valentine

[*]* Valentine’s jumping hard punch now knocks you higher in the air
[*]Flatliner no longer stops when an opponent is killed in the middle of it
[*] Flatliner no longer interacts with assists or Ms. Fortune’s head
[*]Level 3 is now faster.
[*] The animation of Level 3 can be skipped by holding punch.
[*] Green (stun) poison wears off more quickly when the opponent is in hit-stun. Makes it harder to do extended poison combos. Removes many combo options along with IPS change.

Hi, after adjusting to my post education life routine, I think I'm back at writing articles and stuff =) Anyways recently our community BBPH is still going strong at having events or being affiliated with events (in one way or another) and of course that's a good thing right? Sadly though our attendance numbers are down =( It can be a due to a lot of reasons, but we won't dwell on that! Instead I encourage you to continue attending our events and tag along a friend or two =)
In this recap, you'll see HD Videos from SummerSalt Event (day2: MK9, BBCSX, UMVC3)(Hosted by P2D) recorded using [Dt]Lolokoa's Top Tier Technology ( he is SpookyPH after all you see ), a BBCSX 3 character combo video by our own DavidGo (watch the ending its awesome i swear), and a recent SaltySaturday Casuals held on iPlay (Umvc3 matchvids recorded)

2. BBCSX Combo Movie by DavidGo (Jin Ragna Noel)

I like these kinds of combo video. Why?

cos it's simple (not with too much flashy effects)
it shows practical combos on practical situations
it shows simple combos that can be "upgraded" (in the latter part of the vid)
the ending was special and was like icing to the cake, good job Dai.Go

3. iPlay Salty Saturday Recap and Vids HERE

Continuing our saturday casuals at various places (the general rule is, as long as people are game for it, then casuals is a go!) I've decided to invite friends and players from the UMVC3 scene. The casuals turned out great cos certain players were glad to play both BBCSX and UMVC3. Here are videos from the UMVC3 Casuals, and mini team event (using the 2phase team battle format, Charles Noel "[TXO] C+F" is the MVP of that mini team event) (another personal note, watch me have a 9-0 and 15-0 casuals record somewhere in this playlsit!)

Meet Your Mod Episode 26: Jourdal

By Guest, in Home,

This week: Jourdal

Why did you choose that particular handle, is there a story or reference you'd like to explain?

My original handle was Xemnas from KH series, i generally default to that when i can't think of anything because no one likes that guy and the name tends to be available. When my YT page started to gain popularity i thought it would be best to have my DL/YT names matching. The name jourdal was just a combination of my two younger brothers names because....i couldnt think of anything when making a YT account.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
What is your background with fighting games...Did you start with BB or are your OG like SFII?

I consider myself an 09er,though not in the deragatory sense as it's often used. I have been playing FGs since i was 4 or so, the first game i ever played was SFII. My dad figured a 2 player game would be easier to share amongst 3 kids lol. As to when i got "serious" that would be with SFIV/CT release. Prior to CT i only had basic understanding of the games i was playing but i was limited to friends, cousins and my brothers.

What competitive scene are you involved with? (Ranbats, Arcades, XBL, PSN, Reload Online etc.) Would you elaborate the benefits of this particular scene?

NY and i guess you can extend that to NJ since from what i understand they come out to the TSB events regularly. As far netplay and such goes...i don't really netplay, even less now that i discovered i have the best local comp. The advantages to being in the NY scene is that NY has a lot of strong (and notable) BB players like Omnisscythe, SKD etc. If you count the jersey players that make it out here like Lord Knight,St1ckbug or Lich then the availability of strong players increases even more. I think the scene is very friendly provided you can see beyond friendly EC banter (aka shit talk) and very very willing to help those who want to learn.

How strong do you feel your nation is as a whole, what is the next step to strengthening it?

Well, we didn't let Tokido win evo so I'd say we're not that bad (lol). Our strong players are definitely strong, a few players have taken trips to japan and were able to play "the gods" and gain a lot of experience. Using Xie as an example, he showed up often in uploads from various arcades like Alpha station or Tachikawa. While the videos are of course not accurately telling of his experience, i did note something interesting. He lost pretty early on in the first view videos, i think Xie is a strong player from what i've seen and seeing him lose shows that as a nation we have a ways to go. In the latter events with him in it he did quite well and i believe almost won one of the Alpha Station tournaments. I think to get stronger we need more players playing and taking the game seriously though that itself is hard. The strong players are spread out all over the country.

Which player(s) give you the most trouble and why?

Where do i start haha, i don't practice or play as much as i should, i may netplay maybe twice a month, which i think is pretty bad lol. I live close by to OmniSScythe, so i have some really strong local comp to help me level up and now i play much more often than before and the improvement is showing. An issue with me is that i only want to play the strongest players but i think speaking honestly that this mindset hurts as much as it helps. If i had to name the strongest opponents I've ever played offline or netplay : SHADOWREDzero, Lord Knight,OmniSScythe, SKD,Kid Viper,Tonberry, and Haven off the top of my head. As to why they give me so much trouble (other than the obvious fact that they are better) is because i get a bit star struck when fighting players who have reputations, so any gimmick or risky tactic i have in mind i automatically assume they've seen it and will see through it, in other words i think i respect too much lol.

What has been the most helpful tool while growing stronger in BB?

The forums help when introducing you to a character, though to be honest some are far more helpful than others haha. My YT channel helps since its basically doubles as my own personal database of high level BB play. It's something i don't take advantage of enough though. I've been going to offline meetups and such since february and i find that EXTREMELY (and i can't stress this enough) beneficial to my growth as a player. Just having the person right there to tell you things like "don't back roll after this or this move is plus so don't push any buttons after it" is just too good.

Is there anything you'd like to share regarding your respective character or Dustloop in general?

Well everyone knows i play Jin, and i have been since CT when he was really silly and could do what he wanted. I feel EX jin is a bit weak? But in the sense that your wins have to come from you the player and not Jin. In CT you could pick jin and win, but in ex if you don't know jin or you're not that fundamentally strong i think it's going to be pretty hard for you to do well. He clicks too well with me for me to ever want to drop him, if the pattern keeps, he'll be really strong next game anyway.

After a long time, we finally got the 2nd part out. it's way shorter when compared to the 1st one, though.
There's also plans to turn what was to be the 3rd part into a series of shorter videos, each one focusing on applications of all that stuff that was covered in these videos
