this list makes a lot of sense. If Kanji doesn't have any bad matchups he might be a better metagame pick than his tier indicates though. On Mitsuru vs Chie. Mitsuru is a much simpler character who hasn't evolved a whole lot, while Chie had a lot more room to grow. The game looks reasonably balanced IMO, and I've seen some anti-chie tech in videos recently to blow up parry.

Okay, you guys can choose a game I haven't played in ages: BB or GG. I haven't played either in like, 2 years. I've played CS2 for about five minutes, and CSEX I have played never. My goal would be to beat anyone in any of these games. I'm doing this entirely for comedy purposes.

none of these things are "chie's parry". Which is the only thing that strikes me as completely stupid. Everything else looks like a tuning problem or overlooked imo. You have to understand that sometimes things get nerfed before release and the general use of those things has to suffer because the time allotted. Internally, they could have wanted Akihiko's supers to be better, but that ended up making him from an observation standpoint, too good. Release dates make balance a tricky act. The only thing that I look at is Chie's parry and think "why is this even in the game at all in this state?" It's easy to look at these things from the outside and just go "is Arcsys insane?" but the reality is, for most of these things, deadline and internal dev knowledge likely caused more of these problems than any sort of incompetence.

It's foolish to patch the game right now though. IMO they should definitely wait until the console release to decide what to do. The game is still brand new and people aren't even abusing potential mechanics that I could see being interesting. sandwich setups look to be increasingly common, but not abused yet, persona saccing for free offense is also something that people are not doing yet which I could see being SUPER important. Also, the best benchmark for game analysis hasn't happened yet: SBO. I think any balance update should happen after it.

The problem with Akihiko is that other characters do too much damage. He should be the highest damage character in the game. That's the impression I get from his design. Misturu should NOT do that much damage, or have options that brainless/safe up close. Chie does way too much damage. She strikes me as the faster/safer rushdown/melee archtype, while Akihiko seems more like the powerhouse high risk/high reward type. It's hard to get these kinds of things right on your first iteration of a game, especially one that implements ideas you haven't really tried or seen before (or seen in very limited circumstances). The more complex the game is, the harder it is for this to happen. This game isn't nearly as homogenous as say, KoF, SF or Tekken, which commonly use character homogenization to create a more balanced game. As long as we don't end up with Nu-13 level absurdity, it shouldn't be a huge problem. See, it's really easy to look at specific options in a vacuum, but you have to really look at intent vs reality. To me, it's clear they intended for Akihiko to be harder hitting than other characters (wind mechanic, general damage), but they failed to execute this and didn't predict the damage other characters are putting out right now. The testing Arcsys gets vs having a game that tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands people play is no contest. In a multiplayer game, you will NEVER ever get anything right the first time. It just doesn't happen. You can only try your best. Your best balance testing is the game being released. The company is generally pretty good when it comes to improving the game, with the exception of Tager (Tager is supposed to be bad). All we can wait for is a patch.

GGXXAC+ Rebalancing, Features, and Overall Wishlist Thread
Henaki replied to Blade's topic in Guilty Gear General
I'd rather they leave the balance alone. It's so good already that attempting to make small adjustments is just going to feel crummy and taking a risk and potentially making it worse wouldn't feel good without a substantial amount of new stuff for characters. If they just say fuck it and make all the EX characters arcade playable I'd rather see a totally "new" game. -
A HUGE issue with dual audio on the persona games is there's very limited room on the disc and there is an insane amount of audio data. They'd likely have to change to a dual disc system to contain it all which probably would not be in their resources. Edit: This obviously only applies to the actual RPG games, I doubt that the amount of dialogue in P4:A will approach P4 levels.
