[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

Does anyone know if wakeup timing still varies between characters in Xrd? -
Kubo kind of makes other Slayers look like they don't really know how to play the character I thought he looked like a really boring and simple character in Xrd until some of these Kubo matches started popping up

1 frame jump is more situational but FD brake is constantly useful to cancel your dash recovery into block so you don't get smacked in the face. Dash FD brake throw is also the fastest way to run up throw. FD brake also has basically zero execution requirements -
with upper weakpoint fatal counter 5C > 236D > {6>5C}*5 > TCL > 5A > 5B > 3C > 6A > 2C > 6D (or replace 2C with 5C > black hawk stinger) fatal counter 6C combos into all kinds of stuff, even 3C, and you can basically do whatever from there

I doubt they would change his rekkas, he basically has a slightly simpler variation of ABA's rekka inputs and they never changed that input. Sentinel dump input change is kind of weird, the BBCP input system makes it a little weird to input DPs sometimes but it was still just a DP motion. I can't really complain though, as it will only make things easier in those rare occasions where it sometimes was sort of an issue.

The Slash and Reload dust button colors (solid black and solid gold colors) alter your character's properties and are banned. Black gives you infinite tension meter and gold makes you much faster and deal more damage. -
This seems like a relatively minor update, more like what P4A got before console release than a full blown game-changing rebalance.

I'm trying to figure out what the shadow character buff was, but the only translation I have found says this: what does that even mean
-
lately I have been having a lot of people that will beat me in a couple decent matches, then proceed to pick random side characters which i have to stomp for 12+ matches before they will finally go back to their main. I'm just trying to learn some matchups, please use your real character

Does anyone know if they kept the "can't use the same move more than once during a cyclone sequence" thing from the location tests? I haven't been able to tell just from watching. edit: 42:30, seems to be the new EX duck crossup setup for the new cyclone gauge system http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99beTRCM3dM#t=42m32s

It's not something I would try to do on reaction, but it is quite easy to do if she whiffs the counter and you don't activate it somehow. This usually happens to me when the platinum tries to counter and I jumped and have a moment to see it before pressing a button. The counter is out forever so you have plenty of time to land and walk over and do whatever you want, since triggering the counter causes her to start another animation entirely and gives you the same punish window on its last active frame as if you had triggered it on frame 1. You can also, if close enough, dash through her and trigger the counter with whatever you want and then punish freely since the projectile will still fire in the direction she is facing. However, if your teleport puts you right next to her the projectile can sometimes still hit behind her. Basically, I just wanted to find ways to punish this move on whiff better than just a throw combo. It has counterhit recovery frames at the end but its kind of a small-ish window and easy to do 5C too early/late and either not get the counterhit or accidentally trigger the counter anyway. if you are just trying to predict it then grab is obviously the way to go also, activating it to get a free growler absorb and then punishing anyway makes you look awesome
-
If you bait her counter, you can walk up and activate it with a normal and cancel into growler to absorb the projectile, then still have time to punish with 5C fatal counter alternately you can just activate with a normal and cancel into 214D/236D and armor through it for a counterhit

Shadow characters most likely were added as a way to give you someone to fight during story mode without making all the characters fight each other again.

Is 5D faster or does mappa have a billion years of hitstun -
I think it's really been covered here. Like any game, you have to bait DPs. If you bait it and they RC it, then you have forced them to spend a resource to do so. Baiting DPs in all games is essentially a guess, based on the opponent's tendencies and the risk/reward potential of both players' various options. If you bait DP too often, they are going to catch on and use that opportunity to jump out or even take the offensive against you. You have to prove that you are willing to go for more offense on knockdown just as much as you bait DPs, and that when you do bait DPs you know how to make them pay for it with your strongest punish. You can't just focus on baiting DPs, keeping up offense is a constant flow decisions and the worst thing you can do is be predictable with it. It can also help if you find a way to make it look less obvious which choice you are going to do. Walking forward a bit or whiffing a jab or something before switching to block for the DP bait rather than just sitting there ready to block from the very beginning can make it hard for them to guess what you are going to do.

I have been trying to figure out the general combo path of 3C 6D j.B 2C 6C 41236B, and a lot of the time the 41236B only hits once and drops the combo. Before I spend hours trying to figure out why this happens and how to prevent it, I figured maybe someone on here might already know and could save me the trouble

The human race is full of whiners, and fighting game players (and competitive gamers in general) are some of the whiniest of all. I have heard so much whining (usually baseless and often 100% factually incorrect) about nearly every character in every game I have ever played, it's absurd. Just ignore it. Resist the urge to argue, because when people are whining they usually are not prepared to logically debate and most likely would not change their mind even if confronted with a sound argument.
