  1. Beating the shit out of biker gangs because they make too much noise and wake your mom up at night is good exercise
  2. You can only play one character at a time, so technically all you need is to be good with one character. Learning other characters, at least at a basic level, can be helpful though, as it gives you a better insight into how they work and what they are trying to accomplish when facing you. If you just play one character and can understand how to fight against the other characters without actually playing as them at all, then that's fine too. A player who has mastered one character will never lose to a player who is merely good with many characters but has not mastered any of them Most serious players have one main character and then maybe one or two other characters that they are almost or equally as skilled with to play in casuals for the sake of variety or to cover their main character's worst matchups in tournaments that allow character changing. Skill is measured by success. Do whatever it takes for you to succeed, the learning process is different for everyone
  3. http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/indianapolis-in-we-do-play-games-i-promise.94833/ We have a few players, mostly myself and Moy_x7. I play pretty much every game and we have a few others who play some of them Come to Arsenal game room on monday or friday
  4. Awe of She I remember when I first started playing GG it took me like a month to notice how good the soundtrack was because I was too distracted by how great everything else was, as well as trying to learn a fighting game for the first time ever
  5. They need to keep all the character customization stuff from 4. I spent more time with that than I did actually playing the game
  6. Blocking is for smelly foreigners Real men mash on wakeup, it's the American way
  7. Speaking of GG scenes, how is that Accent Core cabinet coming along?
  8. When do you guys usually play? I can't seem to get out there for ranbats and tournaments these days
  9. I really like the MvC3 music overall, and Doom has the best theme in the game iron man's is pretty crap though, especially compaed to the old one
  10. shoutouts to the big retarded SRK thread where everything is getting blown out of proportion as usual and debated endlessly by people who probably don't even attend tournaments in the first place also for the awesome stream that gave me something to watch while sitting in a hospital room all weekend
  11. Is there even such a thing as a combo that is "too long?" I suppose a combo would be too long if the hitstun scaling kicked in and they dropped out of your combo before you finished it, or if you were trying to kill phoenix before she gains 5 meters Chun, morrigan(with meter assist), Tron, and Amaterasu build decent meter. Clockw0rk uses Amaterasu/Doom/Phoenix but his Doom kind of seems a bit unnecessary in my opinion. You could perhaps try Chun or Amaterasu first and put morrigan second with the meter building assist, since you seem to be interested in playing morrigan. It's more an issue of the damage of the combos. If you could have killed a character with a longer combo but you did a shorter one, then you missed the opportunity and put yourself at risk. Even a character with .0001% HP left can get a random hit and 100% your character, especially with x-factor available, so you really want to kill their character if you have the chance to do so. Long combos also build more meter, which is something you will definitely want if you are planning to use a phoenix team with low-HP teammates (as most female characters are). Do note, however, that sometimes doing a shorter combo with less weak attacks will net you more damage overall but with potentially less meter gained, but if you kill a character it is probably worth it unless you really need the meter for dark phoenix or something. This is a shitty video I made a little while ago for my shitty team: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9KapsmlFzg Watch a couple of the combos and notice how they inflict enough damage to kill most characters easily and build well over the 2 meters they spend by being so long. From the start of the round that means that I can burn all 3 meters to kill even Thor, the character who currently has the highest HP, off of almost any comboable hit. This is a bit of an atypical case since I built my team to focus on doing stupid damage off of everything at the expense of being an actually solid and well-rounded team, but it at least shows the potential benefits of learning your character's best/longest combos. sorry for the wall of text but I am sitting in a hospital room with nothing better to do
  12. I won't be able to make it due to a family emergency Hope everyone has a good time
  13. I'm trying to come to this. That saturday is my father's birthday but I at least want to make it out Friday for the MBAA tournament and maybe GG teams if there is a team desperate enough to take me.
  14. I was trying Tron/Spencer/Doom as an alternative to Tron/Hulk/Doom and it actually flowed together similarly. Ultimately I don't think it works quite as nicely but it was a passable configuration, I just feel like Hulk's gamma wave is a better assist for Doom/Tron than anything spencer has, and hulk is pretty much the ideal character to maximize the 100% kill combo gimmick that the team thrives on
  15. of course they are you guys must not be watching/playing any good Dizzy players, her instant kill is amazing
  16. goddamnit I forgot about that guide even though I have read it numerous times thanks anyway
  17. What does make the burst meter refill in GG? I know I have asked this question about 15 times over the last 5 or 6 years but I keep forgetting the answer
  18. Tron/Hulk/Doom hit the opponent with tron once, do a full combo into lunch rush DHC gamma crush for over 950k damage and an overall gain of 1/4 meter. repeat x N feels kind of stupid honestly
  19. some examples http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZoPMzvNOx8 you don't have to use these assists, there are many other assists that can provide a similar function, but it should give you the general idea. sometimes if the combo has a lot of hits you need to shorten your last air combo a lot to something like j.B j.S or they will tech out before you get the j.S floorslam where is my monster hunter character already, I don't care if the MH development team doesn't want one put in
  20. Not necessarily. Some (many?) characters can still flat out kill someone in one BnB combo even if their damage multiplier isn't as high. Doctor Doom is an example of this, his multiplier is only 190 but in level 3 xfactor his bnb combo does over 1,400,000 damage which is more than enough to kill even sentinel. And even with x-factor hulk isn't always that great as an anchor because he can be pretty easy to keep out when he doesn't have assists to help him. If the other player still has solid keepaway capabilities with their remaining character(s) there might not be a whole lot hulk can do besides sit on the other side of the screen and throw gamma wave tantrums based on the tournament at eight on the break yesterday it looks like sentinel/doom/dormammu is a pretty hilariously stupid team, i would try it myself but I don't really like playing as sentinel
  21. people think everything is cheap unless they themselves are doing it zoning just gets the most immediate complaints from shitty players because it requires a small amount of matchup knowledge and/or effort to get around it or you will automatically lose, instead of both players running up to each other and playing rock em sock em robots it's especially hilarious in marvel where you have so many people just drawn in by the characters and fanservice that have little to no fighting game experience, and then LOL MARVEL happens to them and they can't even begin to comprehend it let alone attempt to counter it
