That's normal to be honest and how I started in this. First thing you do is get knowledge. Since you can do some of the stuff already, expand your repetoire and use that training mode to practice combos. Depending on your character, you should be able to find stuff with respect to them here. Look at the wiki, character forums, videos. As for blockstrings, that comes with practice and knowledge. Watch some videos and see what people do, the more you play the more instinctive you can be Enjoy your stay!
