To be fair, I don't think Hazama getting the life steal ring has any real logic, lol. I mean, not every character is strictly subject to the rule, and it's mostly my own interpretation anyway. Litchi's OD being an egregious case. ASW was struggling all throughout CS to find a balance for Daisharin and couldn't get it. Overdrive was basically an opportunity for them to keep it from being used every knockdown without also nerfing it out of existence. I actually think it would be interesting if more ODs did that. Like Tager's. Imagine if OD turned him into a volcano that spewed spark bolts in every direction.

Stopping myself from trying to astral my opponent is like trying to handle a raging boner in public.

It's one thing to force a character to use less safe moves to break primers, but how would you implement that on a character like Lambda? She's practically the anti-thesis of risk. Not to mention, her sickle and spike specials were unsafe to use out of nowhere; it was Tager himself who couldn't deal it well enough to avoid getting guard broken. I don't know if you realize this, but crush trigger is guaranteed to land on someone who has no barrier left (aka "danger state"). IMO, it's not so much about using it and hoping your opponent doesn't remember to press A+B, but more about pressuring them to the point of draining their entire barrier so that crush trigger is sure to work. In that sense, it kind of mimics the way guard libra worked.

The thing about the guard primer system is that it created an artificial strength/weakness in characters. Every character's primer breaking moves were different, and ranged every where from "safe" to "stupidly unsafe." Which means that some characters were able to utilize the system for their benefit, and others got the short end. Yeah, Tager had 10 primers. So what? Nobody was going to try using unsafe moves on a grappler anyway. And the characters that could do it safely (Arakune/Lambda/etc) didn't care that Tager had 10 primers; they would guard break him anyway. As far as Tager was concerned, all the system did was accentuate his worst matchups. The guard primer system was an attempt to be an equal thing for everybody, but the important thing about any system mechanic is that it needs to be fair. Which guard primers was't. Which is why they discarded it and went with a system where equality is off the table. The overdrive system amplifies the abilities a character already has. Of course, what an OD can do for a character depends on what that character depends on for winning. For example: Hakumen has magatama, so his OD increases magatama gain. This turns him into a monster combo machine. A few characters had old DDs rolled into their OD (Ragna/Bang/Litchi). Bang and Litchi got a new DD, and Ragna's DbD became baseline. Their overall gameplay was expanded. Tager's OD benefits him primarily in neutral. It adds magnetism to his 720, a move which only works outside of combos. It increases the gain on spark bolt, which is his ace in the hole at full/mid screen distance. It passively pulls in magnetized opponents, which has no real application outside footsies. So far, so good, IMO. It also adds wallbounce/slide to his D moves, which is supposed to expand his combo options... but there's a problem with that. His D moves aren't actually good for combos. 1) They are all 72 P2, even in OD. 2) OD removes cornerbounce from j.D/4D and replaces it with wallbounce. Which leads to this lovely issue with OD corner combos: j.D: cornerbounces, allows some followup into GP OD j.D: wallbounces, opponent bounces beyond Tager and out of the corner I get the impression Tager's OD was meant to improve his combos like it does everybody else, but it wasn't thought out very well and instead kills his combos. On the other hand, if OD did nothing at all to Tager's drive, it would be a good option, because the ability to freeze the timer and lock out bursts is still valuable even if it does nothing else. Instead Tager players have to avoid using it at all, except for spark bolts and slightly increased damage to MTW. TL;DR: There's nothing inherently wrong with a system with asymmetrical benefits. Some characters just need more changes than others to make it work.

Backdash 720 isn't that good either, considering the much larger vulnerability window of backdash. I seriously hate the backdash nerf, it's not even good for hard reads anymore. It still beats Ragna's DP and probably Kagura's too, but anything faster than those can't be punished because of the increased recovery. fffffffffffff

No way, give him the double jump!! mori pls But seriously, all of these changes so far don't look like they will help Tager's worst matchups. I wish they would do more with sledge than just change its combo properties. Guard point hammer sounds kind of cool though.

they should just give tager all of his unlimited stuff and call it a day

For real. It's not like we don't already have temporary timers for other characters, like Rachel's George timer. Here, we have a mechanic that has variable timings depending on whether 4D or 5D/2D/j.D was used, and allows multiple applications to stack which muddles things further. Yet we don't have a timer for this because... why? Do they think a timer somehow benefits the opponent? Might as well remove spark bolt meter then, since opponents plan around that all the time. No reason not to do it, other than laziness.

Overheads are discount mixup anyway. If you have enough time to do 6B, you should be doing 360B instead.
-
Things to look out for during Relius pressure: 6A: Can be made safe on block with Ignis 2D (two-hitting move that vacuums). Best to 360A/720 him before it connects. Unblockable oki setup: Saw+airdash j.C. Possible responses on wakeup (none tested, sorry): MTW: Probably wins. Backdash: Probably loses. The saw is active for 30 frames. OD: Might win? Not sure. If you see it coming: Try quick getup and jumping out. If he does meaty 6A instead of j.C: Laugh and 720 him. Rising j.C: Tager-specific mixup. Can turn into a combo if Ignis is out. Becomes a huge threat if you are stuck blocking the Ignis combo super. i haven't played this matchup since extend oh god why am i even posting this

*leans back in chair* I foresaw this from the beginning

yeah I forgot I was in mAc's room when I sent that invite oh well. Tomorrow?

Nemesis when will we get to play eachother

Reading that post reminded me of the days when everyone would criticize mAc for spamming D. Mind you, this was back in CT where Ds were frame 1 and did 4.5k+ damage. Here in CP, Haku's D has been nerfed into the ground, yet no one questions it anymore. They question themselves instead.

Just to clarify: I'm doing this on block, not whiff. It seems that Brice's answer is correct. Any time the input buffer retains the first 360 motion, pressing 5A gives me 360A. If 5A does come out, the 360C gives me 5C/6C/j.C. I guess it's unrealistic to expect the game to remember buffered inputs in-between moves. On a side note, trying to do this kind of stuff on a pad absolutely MURDERS my wrist.
-
dat head invul His 3C has always been a pain for us. It punished our 5Ds, 2Ds, and 5Cs in Extend. Now it anti-airs too. You really have no business being in the air unless he jumped first.
-
Random question time: Is it possible to 2B, buffer a 360 motion, 5A, then do another 360 motion to get a 720? I can do 2B walk forward 720 with some success, but I can't get 2B 5A 720 at all, and I can't tell if the 5A is canceling my input buffer or if I'm just messing it up.

which means he costs $4000 to perform the same function as a $1000 computer

fuck xsplit. the stream quality is decent but the BRB splash screen is obnoxious and cannot be disabled unless I pay for a license. uninstalled immediately after learning this. the streaming software that came with my hauppauge is decent enough as long as I have no need for bells and whistles. OBS also works but requires an extremely ghetto setup. wirecast was an absolute nightmare

I would love to give a writeup of my recent matchup against "Trying to Stream with a Hauppauge" however, such a writeup would be NSFL. oh my god why did I think this was a good idea

dem notes I bet mine say something like "burps at round start and doesn't say excuse me"

ggs to all who participated on my stream

there is no way I am letting a discussion about 5As go by without including bang so there it is

My old d-pad used to trigger the L/R buttons... somehow. Dropping it a couple times made it stop temporarily.
