Chrono Phantasma Speculations/Theories [rules updated 10/14]

One of Ragna's possible endings is encountering a shadowy Noel consumed by her Murakumo programming. Pretty much the same thing happens, though this is Noel before she inherited the Azure. -

Already happened in one timeline. -

Ars magus synchronization rates are partly genetic--see the Yayoi family aiming for that at first before they became obsessed with purity and turned to inbreeding--but if the siblings were artificially created, they could've been experiments. Duds always happen. Not the same. Ragna possesses the Azure Grimoire which really just lets him do ars, use Soul Eater, etc. Noel can tap into the power of the true Azure. -

Rachel made the church collapse to reveal an underground chamber. Some time later, a ray of sunlight reveals that Ragna's right eye has turned red. He makes his way over to a wall and looks for something "with only his right eye which had been dyed red." He spots a dark, humanoid, headless statue (the remains of the Black Beast) and walks over to it "as if drawn by an unknown force." Upon contact, it crumbles into a black mist (seithr) and envelopes him. Rachel leaves, and shortly after the darkness dissipates to reveal Ragna with the Azure Grimoire acting as his arm. Note that Ragna doesn't remember any of this when he speaks to Jubei later. I don't think it's magic. Ragna has seemingly zero magical abilities and crap ars magus ability (the Azure Grimoire does all of it for him). Maybe something like some inherent connection to the Azure Grimoire? Or it just naturally attracts nearby people. -

His hair is white. Given that Nu's hair is also white, I liked the idea that it bleached his hair rather than the trauma doing so. Already turned his right eye red. Seithr was actually injected into her body through her right eye. Little wonder that it's covered with a patch. -

1. Someone skimped out on the melanin when it came to Nu. "Does she really need all this stuff? Nah, screw it." 2. Her Azure Grimoire fragment or the seithr injected into her. Nu doesn't just look pale; she looks sickly. She has bags under her eyes, she has a grayish tint to her skin that Rachel, who is also pale, lacks, and her right eye has gray-black sclera with swirls in it. Her short story involved seithr being pumped into her, so it's not much wonder she doesn't look so hot. -

That was actually memory from Saya and did not happen in the present day, but yes he acted fine around her in that particular flashback. It's not like Jin always hated her. Personally, I don't think he ever hated Saya specifically, but it's a rather tinhatty theory to hold on to. -

Assuming Mori is telling the truth, it's not. He said there's a reason for all the shared voice actors, with exception of Tomomi Isomura who plays Makoto and Yuki. -

Does not negate the fact that she has at least a few more of Saya's memories beside that one image of Ragna. Though it was definitely Saya's memory from the church. Jin says that Ragna must be sweeping the hills looking for her. Nu asks, looking for Nu? Jin reacts with confusion, saying, "that's not who Brother is looking for. Brother is... Brother is..." Cut to a flashback of Ragna killing one of Nu's previous bodies, then back to Jin who is totally crazy. Nu reacts with fear and feels "foreign emotions" taking over her. Jin screams at her not to take "his brother away from him." I think they were all jumbled memories from Saya. -

Soul Eater and eyes turning red, plus the beast thing. Maybe the Azure Grimoire was modeled after the Original Grimoire, maybe not. Note that Ragna and Sechs are both voiced by Sugita, and all the characters that share voice actors between BB/XB are supposed to have a reason for that (except Isocchi). -

I think this is just a case of different artists. The Black Beast looks different depending on whoever draws it. It's bulkier and solid in most of the CGs from CT, slightly translucent and more proportioned in CS, drawn with different heads and wispier in the light novels, then back to solid but more serpentine for XB. examples Calamity Trigger, Calamity Trigger, the mini Black Beast in "that which is inherited," Phase 0, Phase Shift 2, Phase Shift 4, the corrupted dogs in Phase 0, old Dead Spike. Any discrepancies can just be put down to the fluid nature of seithr. Though idk the Black Beast in the CG for XB would have to be a different BB than the one we all know and love in BB simply because of timeline stuff right? -
It's possible that she needed to observe Terumi first in CT before it was really initiated. What went down in Ibukido just enabled them to have a life-link in the first place. Hazama is still around in Wheel of Fortune and Makoto's CS story, so either he survived the blast or Relius just made a new body.

According to Jin in CS, he believes that killing Ragna IS saving him haha. Rachel didn't think it was possible to save Mu either, and Ragna proved her wrong. I'll be more surprised if he does die at the end, especially with the theme of rebelling against fate this series loves. -
No, Phantom used magic. Turn on JP text (or even voices) and Hakumen will exclaim that she's using magic in...Noel's bad end? I don't quite recall. Phantom just frequently got the jump on Rachel, and she was already kind of tired by that point. She mentions to Gii and Nago that she couldn't teleport Hakumen out of Kokonoe's lab because she used up quite a bit of power breaking the seal on him. I think she just exhausted much of her power and needs time to recuperate. I just checked the tip with Rachel, and 魔術 is used for sorcery. 魔法 is magic. Meanwhile, Hakumen says that Phantom is using 魔法, magic, in Noel's bad end.

It's been a while, but they're not the same. The localization did screw up a couple times in referring to Phantom using sorcery when she uses magic, but they use different words in the Japanese version. I believe magic is 魔法 and sorcery is 魔術? PROBABLY got the word for sorcery wrong. Rachel says that sorcery is different and stronger than magic in her TMMLR episode even. Sorcery is stronger than magic which is stronger than ars magus. Infinite Gravity was only used to contain the Black Beast and compress it into a core. She used phenomena intervention to move Nirvana into attacking Relius though, and then she passed out after telling him not to underestimate her.

Like I said, there's nothing that says she can't but I really doubt it. BlazBlue--I have no idea about XBlaze--implies that magic is a hereditary trait. While Mai's Intermediary Grimoire is kind of interesting, it doesn't actually enable her to use any of the skills she copies, and I really doubt it would enable her to use magic of all things. It just seems pretty baseless to me. There's nothing to actually indicate she becomes a mage or an alchemist or whatever. Susano'o Unit is an offensive creation, and how the hell would you equip this? Amaterasu does not seem meant for either offensive or defensive combat, and it has a will of its own, unlike the Susano'o Unit. -

Trinity is just inside Muchorin. Is there something in particular that makes you think Mai is capable of magic? Magic has been tied to bloodline in BB, and while it's not out of the question for Mai to be capable of magic, it's kind of a random thing to assume with no indication that her ancestors were mages. I really doubt the Intermediary Grimoire would enable her to use true magic. -
Play the game, because CS has a lot of different things going on and any summary is just going to be lacking in details as well. BB wiki has a lot of made up stuff and fanon added to it. Take everything with a grain of salt unless it includes citations from the games or supplementary material. edit: Wow, screw you autocorrect.

All I hoped for was a decent translation that is coherent and consistency, but I guess they're not too interested in the latter, or are only interested in being consistent to their own subs.
