[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

Good question. Are there any rules about simultaneous RCs? If both players do it do they just both slow down? -

Do you actually have to BS low to BS lows or does it just change its hitbox? -

The dealbreaker for BS is that it puts the opponent in a recoil state. This specifically is what makes it dumb. I was thinking about the Melty shield mechanic and why that worked. I was comparing the two mechanics and this really stuck out. The reason you didn't see shield dominating was because depending on the shielded move you might not actually get a punish, and sometimes it might even put you in a worse situation, despite shielding properly. Other things that contributed were that shield had a pretty small hitbox so you had to have a general idea of which attack was coming if you were going to shield something. These nuances made it much riskier to throw out because of situation dependencies. BS sounds way less situational. -

I think I heard someone say that Sol Bandit Revolver RC was NOT auto-JI, so I'm worried. -

It totally is, and I am so glad we're returning to this style. -
I'm glad people still play this game. Despite some wonkiness I don't think it got the recognition it deserved.

this What makes this possible is that the basic GG system almost completely ensures that all characters have at least some method of dealing with bullshit. Despite being at a disadvantage, you can play GG like Super Turbo and still have realistic chances of winning. -

I still don't quite get what Blitz Shield does. Anyone care to reexplain? -
[P4AU] Naoto Shirogane - Gameplay Discussion "TIME TO MOVE"
Xtra_Zero replied to ludwig van's topic in Naoto Shirogane
Good shit. Does anyone know what the startup/recovery for shadow awakening mode activation is? If it's 0/0 this might actually have some good application. -
I'm having trouble configuring a controller for it. Anyone else have problems with this?

[P4AU] Naoto Shirogane - Gameplay Discussion "TIME TO MOVE"
Xtra_Zero replied to ludwig van's topic in Naoto Shirogane
If she ends up being a better character, I'm glad, but removing a tool like that makes me mad. Using gun in the original was already kind of risky, so making it worse was a silly choice imo, and it affects her trap damage because there will be situations now where she can't follow up with bullets, so using it outside of combos is even more questionable because if you do it might not be there for a punish you need. -

So then what's the point of even having the gun? The gun is only really a threat when it's out and it doesn't see much use in combos outside of her autocombo, and even then having the gun around just for combos is a really stupid design choice imo. Originally the only real threats Naoto's gun had at neutral was the threat of her reloading and ruining the opponent's chance of getting in without blocking another set of bullets or the threat of her canceling out of gun early to get the drop on someone midscreen, but now that there's no threat of that (AND THAT YOU CAN'T MANUALLY RELOAD EITHER) the gun is effectively worthless because the opponent isn't afraid of it. Even if they do get hit what do they care they get in for free afterward anyway. I can't even imagine how awful the Kanji matchup is now. -

I've played around with her a bit and the bullet recharge down time is a huge problem, imo. It effectively negates her ability to threaten from fullscreen. There's no reason for the opponent to not just sit there and block until she runs out of bullets. Yeah she got better traps and stuff but there's way less risk for the opponent to set off traps once bullets run out. She's more solid now but ouch bullet reload hurts so bad. 2[c] being special cancelable is one of my new favorite things lol. -

What's the worst fighting game you've played?
Xtra_Zero replied to Verimeloni's topic in Misc Fighter Central
Sonic the Fighters. Great music, cool graphics, awful gameplay. Also the GameCube Bleach fighter. ... and even though I enjoyed it, the original Battle Arena Toshinden. It had tons of style even by today's standards and great music, but the gameplay just didn't hold up at a competitive level. -

I'd like some clarification on how Blitz Shield works. -
Still no news? :<

I mean the videos. Yes, it seems to have disappeared off the planet, but the fact remains that at some point it really existed and it was made with Mugen.

Wrong. Step one is programming. Nothing else matters until you have something moving on the screen. Anyone can write a design doc, but unless you have tons of money lying around it's not going to just make itself and nobody's going to want to code for you if you aren't paying them. If they're going to code without getting paid they'd rather work on their own ideas. "But how do you know what to do to work toward what you have in mind?" This is why you should learn programming, art, music, etc. You won't have to rely on others as much if you have some experience in everything yourself. You can see immediately if it's not right and fix it just as fast. Just start making something. Grab C# and Visual Studio, start an XNA project, and click run. Your game will open and you'll get a blank, blue screen. There's your template. From there start messing with things. Stop arguing about the system and characters and story because none of that matters until you have the means to make it. Get programming. Popular languages are: C#, Java, C++. C# with XNA is the most practical and easy to use to make games. C++ is the most traditional, but arguably the most difficult to make production-level games. Java is heavily used for other projects but it's a standard language that every programmer knows. There are plenty of tutorials online for XNA. Google is literally your best friend when coding. Get coding. Also, don't rule out things like GameMaker, Unity, and Mugen. Have you seen Card Sagas Wars? Check that out. It was made in Mugen. Don't let the name fool you, GameMaker is EXTREMELY solid. If you don't think you're ready to jump cold into programming, definitely check it out. It will help you understand what's going on under the hood as the game runs, and from there you can more easily see how cold code is morphed into a game engine. Personally, my path was C++ classes -> Java classes -> GameMaker -> XNA -> Android (Java).

I hope this is not the return of Bamco's awful "Mash O to attack" engine that they've been spamming since the first Narutimate Hero game.

I wouldn't count Robo-Ky out completely, or some character like him. He's pretty unique and his character design is really fun. So is Bridget. The two characters I consider boring enough to get cut are Jam and Johnny. Jam moreso than Johnny. Kliff and Justice I doubt will make it just because. Order Sol I'm doubting because I can't see the dev team justifying two Sols to the fanbase at the expense of another character. Characters I would be surprised NOT to see: Slayer Dizzy Zappa Faust Baiken Testament Anji Bridget -

Isn't that exactly my argument? The reason P4 low tier is low is that they have bad neutral and general moves, not that they can't kill when they get a hit. They've got plenty of options to get out of pressure (even more than Melty, I think (roll, dead angle, reversal, reversal RC, IB, hop (lol), character specific stuff)), just none of them work because offense and pressure is so fucking ridiculously good. It's not that there are no defensive options; there are plenty. It's that there are effectively no defensive options because of stupid good pressure. How do you defend against a mixup, even with tools, when the mixup is almost literally impossible to see? Take away Chie's persona oki and maybe 5A and suddenly the match is playable. It doesn't matter if every character can corner carry and then kill if they don't have the normals to give them that chance. Giving everyone huge corner carry stuff doesn't really address the underlying problem. -
This is true, but I think the test is a little flawed, in that nobody just sits there for 4 seconds and then randomly does haircar, etc. There's more blocking information that you can glean based on where they are in their blockstring, so you can watch out for a JC on moves that are JCable and you can generally guess about when the mixup will happen. This app doesn't do blockstrings, so it's not quite the same.
