  1. That's actually a super good point; Having a laggy TV multiplies the difficulty of everything by quite a lot. At the very, very least, please turn on game mode. But if you can, you really want to check out a low lag monitor or just you an old CRT if you can tolerate the game looking like mush.
  2. Your absence was noted! =( Is the GU thing this week? o.o
  3. Looks like I really need to rework how I play neutral. Thanks for the tips guys.
  4. Don't forget all crossups, all the time. I disagree; There are plenty of characters I don't mind fighting against. And actually, there are several characters who don't have ANYTHING that I can see being annoying to deal with. They are usually low tier. :P
  5. Oh goodie. Another item to add to my list of "things that were too good for Tsubaki to have that other characters who are better than her get." (P.S. **** Jin's jump loop combo.) Time to go learn to IB this thing.
  6. So I tried punishing Ice Car with 5C in training mode, and it seems like a lot of the time he's too far away for it to hit. Dash 5A works for a crappy punish, but even that is pretty tight on the timing. Without IBing this (as much for the reduced pushback as for the added frame advantage) this move seems stupidly hard to punish in a meaningful way.
  7. Which is pretty much what I was referring to when I said "easy" rather than "high tier".
  8. And when you can win with Relius and not with Izayoi, what is your conclusion? "Tiers don't matter"? Oddly, I've never really noticed a big correlation between 'high tier' and 'picked a lot' or even 'low tier' and 'not picked much'. Tager has been low tier for ages and there's been no shortage of people playing him. Tao and Valk have been good forever and I hardly ever see them online. As Errol pointed out, at the level most of us play at, "easy" is more important than "high tier". THAT, IMHO, is where you see the correlation - Jin, Ragna, Hazama and Arakune to some extent, Tager, Noel. Not Tao, Valk, or Carl, regardless of where they fall in the tier list.
  9. God forbid people have a fair chance against you when you do?
  10. When you say "option select it" you mean "Do 5B > 6C and then react appropriately?" Because I'm not aware of any option select that will let you confirm 5B > 6C? (Unlike doing like... 5CC > 6C where 6C will only come out on hit.) Help me out here.
  11. Yeah, I kindof submit that Hakumen's old "auto burst bait" combos were kindof stupid in that regard and that it's probably a good thing that your opponents don't have to learn the two places in each combo where it actually works for them to burst. That may just be my opinion though. Anyway, I too was going to chime in with Azrael, even though I kindof hate him, he seems to mostly fit the description there. Not sure why you'd choose a character based on their combo mechanics, but if you want links, he's your guy.
  12. Depends on the situation? :P Certainly, a large part of this matchup is getting a life lead and forcing him to do dumb stuff to come to you, but if you just try to run away for most of the match, it actually makes his life a little bit EASIER, because he stops having to worry about you doing something offensive. If you see a timeout 10-15 seconds away, take it, but I wouldn't play the match with that as a goal.
  13. Really? Okay. I guess I see a lot of high level players sure seeming like they do. o.o
  14. So what do people use as their 'cue' for counterhit hitconfirms? I'm trying to work on this, since it seems like 5B (CH) > 6C is going to be super crucial if I ever want to accomplish anything in this game, but I generally can't hear the announcer saying 'counter', so unless I KNOW I'm getting a CH, what am I supposed to be reacting to?
  15. You can do either one. Technically you'll get more charge than they do if they're taking the time to throw blobs. At least, until they clue in and stop doing it. Or you can just airdash over them if it's the ground version. Air version is harder to get around, but they have to jump to do it, so...yeah. Stuff.
  16. 5C will reach without a dash? Good to know. I need to training mode practice this, but I need about 1 billion hours in training mode and it's kinda discouraging. :P Also, did Jin's 5D get a bigger hitbox or something? It seems like it's hitting me at STUPID range now (like, pretty much covering the 2D 'blindspot area'.).
  17. I guess I need to try more 3C, because this matchup is ridiculous otherwise. =/ I can barely even punish the stupid ice car now that it pushes him back so far out of reach. I hate this game. -_-
  18. Time for my standard advice for people who say "I can do combos in training mode, but I drop them in real matches." Go back to training mode. Put health on regen. Put the dummy on CPU, 100 skill. Work on trying to land and do your combos. Don't do stupid stuff - try to play the CPU as much like a person as possible - and just focus on turning hits into combos. This provides a valuable bridge between "training dummy that does nothing but stand there, drool, and let you do combos when you're ready." and "human opponent who won't hold still long enough for you to even begin thinking about a combo." Give yourself 30 minutes of this for a few evenings, and I guarantee you'll be better at landing combos in real matches.
  19. okay, I'll be there around...7ish. Maybe a little earlier.
  20. So, I still only have the single PS3 compatible stick, but I can bring a basic (but wireless) controller if folks want. Will be there tonight if others are.
  21. Uh, it means/meant that they used to charge people who were 18 or over, but not 21 a $5 cover charge, because they wouldn't be providing any income for the place by drinking, but that has now been dropped.
  22. Well, me and my single PS3 compatible fightstick wouldn't have fixed that. x.x Though I can bring a standard PS3 pad along next week as well if people want. (Actually, I may, MAY have two fightsticks that work on PS3 by next week.) Anyway, apologies again; I'll definitely be there next week if you will.
  23. Sorry for non-attendance. This week is kinda crazy, between taxes, parents, and easter coming up. x.x
