Montreal: Le Thread Generale Pour Weeaboo Fighters
pochp replied to BladeOfJustice7's topic in International
After having made the map to help plan out the rides for the Ottawa trip, I thought it seemed like a good idea to take it one step further. I made a custom map on google maps, you guys can add your location and what games/characters you play. I think it could be helpful if people want to have more meetups and see what's convenient. http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=271&p=1167#p1167 -

Back for our third year, the hype continues, announcing Ultimate Montreal Air Dashers 2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg1gr38xiJA Presented by : When : June 14th Where : Foonzo, 1245 Drummond, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Whether it's alcohol, nachos, burgers, sandwiches...Foonzo will even have a special menu for events! You cannot eat outside food or drinks inside the venue too. Main Tournaments : Blazblue Chrono Phantasma (most recent version, following evo rules) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R Side Tournaments : Persona 4 Arena Gundam EXVSFB 2v2 Arcana Heart 3 Melty Blood Vampire Savior Skullgirls Maybe more? Depending on interest... Macro rules same as Big E tournaments : specify character choice, then ask the other player if macros are ok. Venue fee : 10$ Main games : 10$ Side events : tbd Additional info / FAQ : This tournament is held in Canada, therefore, if you are not Canadian, you will need a passport to enter the country. Look into ASAP if you are interested, these can take a while to get done. You might want to bring Canadian money, but you can alternatively just go to an ATM over here, or pay with your card. Also, when travelling to another country, your cellphones/smartphones enter roaming and additionnal charges will be applied for anything you do with them. Best idea is to turn off your data and we'll see what we can do about the wifi at the venue. Will I be OK if I don't speak French? Yes, lots of people in Montreal don't even speak French. The event is only one day, why? We'll be having Foonzo all to ourselves on Saturday. All the other days, if people want to show up and play casuals, we will be there anyways! If enough people show up on Sunday or Friday, we could run teams or exhibition matches .(note, closed on Mondays) Will I need to bring a jacket? Depends on you, temperature in June here is somewhere between 68 and 86 degrees. (that's 20-30 celsius) Are you working on a group rate for a hotel? No, but there are a lot of hotels nearby since the venue is downtown, you should be able to find something at a decent price, and the venue will stay open very late. If you're on a tight budget try asking if anyone wants to offer a place to crash, you never know. How is the parking around Foonzo? There's a parking lot right next to it, costs 20$ or so per day. How do I get to Foonzo from the airport? There's a 24/7 bus that passes often (http://www.stm.info/en/info/networks/bus/shuttle/line-747-east/60997), it goes from the airport to downtown, there's a stop about 1 minute walking distance from foonzo. Costs 8$ and generally offers free wifi. How do I get to Foonzo from the train station? It's a 15 minute walk. How do I get to Foonzo from the bus terminus? Depends, with megabus, it's a 10 minute walk. With greyhound, it's either a 30 min walk, or you need to taxi/public transit/get a ride from someone. When's Marvel? In the back there might be a cabinet with it for you to play. Anything I need to know about driving in Montreal? Flashing green light means you can turn left. You can't turn right on red lights, tie your seatbelt, speed limits are in KM/h so learn the equivalences, beware of potholes, avoid the giant orange cones, and don't drink and drive. Can I help? Sure! We'll need people to run the pools, check the door, and bring equipment. You can also help just by spreading the word so as much people as possible make it to this! Why should I come? http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?16516-Ultimate-Montreal-Air-Dashers-2013-Results-and-Shoutouts http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?14032-Montreal-Air-Dashers-(Apr-14-2012)-Results-and-Shoutouts! note : there are a lot of other festivals in Montreal around this time as well. A beerfest, two music festivals, and an art festival. For more info : http://www.montreal.com/tourism/festivals/index.html There's also the F-1 Grand Prix the week before, if you're into that.

Sophisticat and Darkwolf live around there too, it would be pretty convenient if you were to ride together, instead of having to go all the way downtown, no? -

Reminder, we're planning on going to a small tournament in Ottawa next Saturday. If you're interested, check this thread for more info : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=259 and post there if you want to come (with your approx location if I don't know, to make it easier to plan the rides). Reyntime, RuroniLonewolf, could you guys let me know what neighborhood you live in? I have no idea lol. (also, wakeupDP, you're in Ahuntsic right?) -
I feel like the difficulty of this combo varies depending on the other character. You can even do throw 5c 2c j.2c 2b 6a 6b 6c on some (Jin at least), but I usually stick to 2b since it works on everyone iirc.

If my opponent's shown me he's going to DP that string, I just try to avoid using it, it's a risk I don't need to take. I should really try those j.p whiff strings lofo wrote. The only string I'll alternate with is j.k delay j.s land bait dp or whatever, which just changes the gap's place, but isn't that safe either.
-
I hope the changes to the DP will make it more consistent to combo like DP RC 5c etc. The changes make sense so far, but there's probably going to be more. I think there was going to be a build at JAEPO, which is this weekend, so hopefully we'll get more info soon.

Come to sankishin, it's where we discuss all these things in specific threads instead of here (important posts tend to get lost). I think you've been having trouble with the site? Here is the thread where we're planning the Ottawa tournament : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=259 Agreed we should also talk about evo in person, we're just gauging interest for now, I just made a thread for it too : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=260 Also, they have been holding retro games tournaments for a while now, used to be on Wednesdays, now it's every second Thursday. edit : oh this might be something different, my bad lol -

How does it erode? I think it's much better than having 16 people around 2 stations standing up and apologizing to all the other customers that are trying to get through to get to the bathroom. As long as numbers stay good, we all meet up once a month for a tournament, and people vary the meetups they go to, I don't see how this can become a problem. Money isn't the only issue with a HQ, I don't think it's what we want atm, and I can't see anyone filling the role that Pierre had. -

650 flight 120 hotel 030 taxi 200 food 080 venue + tournaments 1080 total, before alcohol, money matches, other gambling, etc. This is for a Thursday to Monday trip, so you also have to consider the days you'll have to take off. You can save on the flight or on food a bit, but it still remains pretty expensive if you want to enjoy your trip. I'm definitely interested in returning. -

Probably won't make it tomorrow, Born of the Gods prerelease! Lots of free time during the rest of the week so far though. Was thinking Wednesday before the meetup, but it doesn't have to be the only time -

There are two tournaments on the weekend of Feb 22, one in Philadelphia, one in Ottawa, I wanted to see if people were interested in going to either. It helps the logistics and planning, knowing what cars are available and stuff like that. -

Balance patch planned for arcade and vita? https://img.4plebs.org/boards/pol/image/1388/21/1388210780465.jpg Anyways... on a more important note. Does next Wednesday before the meetup sound good for poutine week adventure? (secret plan to get more people to come on Wednesdays... no actually it's because I doubt we'll be able to get a table for a group of 5+ on Thur/Fri/Sat without reserving beforehand, and I have no idea how many we'd be/how many will actually show up) #fuckdivekicks you know exactly what I'm talking about. Anyways, I'll try to be there earlier than last week lol.
