  1. Hope everything went okay tonight aside from the couple people who couldn't make it. To make up for my not being there I played Jackie Chan with my dad and best friend. They really liked it.
  2. That's fine. I don't really use training mode except to learn new combos. Just play with other people and try to learn as you go. Pay attention to recurring mistakes, or moves that you get hit by often, and learn how to correct that.
  3. The fastest way to learn is to play either offline with people or online with friends so that you can get advice on what you're doing wrong. Eventually you'll notice your own mistakes without any help and after doing something dumb in a match you'll say "I should stop doing that" to yourself. Or at least that's how it went for me!
  4. Yeah, tonight's my last night in San Diego until probably September, so... Take care everyone! I hope most of you are still around in fall. I've had some pretty awesome times with you guys. I'll still hang out here in the thread, but don't expect me to be around for a while. Keep things going without me! That being said, someone should probably take over the Facebook posts since I'm not actually going to be around. It'll be weird for me to post saying what's happening if I'm not actually there. Fatbird: That brought a tear to my eye.
  5. I'm not sure how many pages we were at when I joined, but 100 is quite an accomplishment. Good stuff, everybody. edit: 7! Wow! I've been here for 93 of the pages. That's just crazy to think about.
  6. Blocking more and mashing less is good. When someone has you stuck in a corner you should look and see if you can spot them using a move that has a lot of recovery, then throw out your fastest move (standing A usually works). Or use something with invincibility (a lot of characters' shoryuken type moves [forward, down, downforward]). Or burst, but you can only do that two times a game, so you have to use them wisely, and I prefer to use them in the middle of the enemy's combo rather than while blocking. Look around in the Match Finder forum to see if there's a thread dedicated to the area near you. It may be scary to show up when you're not confident about your skill but playing offline with people is really the best way to learn, and most people will be nice about it and try to coach you.
  7. Very Good Shit happened this time. I'm glad Moosejaw was able to make it out one more time, take care and have a safe trip back to Dallas, man! Shoutouts to BB shenanigans! Shoutouts to me almost beating a Lamda sorta kinda! Shoutouts to Jackie Chan hype! Shoutouts to the KoF guys that showed up. Very nice bunch and I hope they keep showing up. Shoutouts to DIVE KICK Shoutouts to completely destroying fighting game vocabulary. Specifically to Ambiguous Crossups, Meaties, and Fuzzy Guard. http://www.talesofgames.com/barkley/ EVERYONE PLAY THIS GAME, you owe it to yourself and you will understand some of the discussion that happened at Denny's a little better. Thanks for making this meetup badass, guys. A few of you I'll see again on Tuesday but for those I won't, see you around in August when I come back to SD.
  8. Hope you can make it tomorrow MooseJaw! I had a lot of fun commenting with you on tuesday. If you can't make it tomorrow hopefully you'll be in SD again sometime in the future!
  9. Oh nooo I hope everyone can make it! This will be my last friday meetup until august.
  10. I know me, Wallice, and Roa will play it if you wanna bring it along. Maybe others. I'd say just ask about it when you arrive. We're pretty open to just playing whatever people want to play. I think you're the only one that has Vsav ready to go though, so you'd have to be the one bringing it.
  11. These for sure: BBCSX, Guilty Gear, KoF13, and Skullgirls. If there's enough people that want to play them we can also run: Melty Blood, Arcana Heart 3. Also we're probably going to be running Jackie Chan at some point because that game's amazing. Good shit last night guys, that was the most fun I've had at BSL so far. Running the stuff and commentating was great. Also this is what the people at Wendy's last night thought of us:
  12. I think Wallice is doing that. Personally i am hoping to just get some decent BB time in while running the SG stuff
  13. Well I made a post asking about CRTs on the facebook group, so hopefullly we can convince someone to bring one edit: From the facebook post: "what's wrong with HDTVs that have the correct inputs?" I'm assuming it's a lag issue but before I answer this incorrectly I wanted to check
  14. ah, well, there goes that idea. Once the 360/PSN versions of GG come out that'll make things much easier...
  15. Yeah, fair enough. Let's get the Guilty Gear situation figured out first, since I know we've had people asking about that in the past, and now those guys we met at Tajima. I have a CRT, but again I'd only be able to bring it this Friday, and it might be awkward to bring if I'm also getting a ride, so I'm going to have to ask that someone else cover the TV. I can supply a PS2 if we need one, but other than that I can't be much help since I don't have the game. Another option is the PC version, if there is one of Accent Core. I know there's a PC version of reload, so if there's one for Accent Core as well, it might be easier to run a laptop setup. Stuff to think about. Sorry for getting ahead of myself, I'm just excited to play ALL THE ANIME GAMES.
  16. No, I agree. I think for now we should focus on: BlazBlue Skullgirls Melty Blood Guilty Gear Arcana Heart 3 (I can provide this setup until I have to leave for summer, also we'll see how interested people actually are in it) King of Fighters XIII (I know MooseJaw and the people he brings play this, Wallice plays this, Roa and Ichi play this but not much. Jinxhand plays this, if he can show up on friday.) I'd like to run this because I know there are people who play this in San Diego, it's just a matter of getting them out on Friday. If we're going to be running tournaments weekly, one laptop is going to be taken up basically the whole time by tio (tournament organizer) so that might be all we want to run "regularly". I was thinking maybe run tournaments biweekly, but what does everyone else think? Not that it matters too much to me since this Friday will be my last Friday meetup until fall semester. I just want to get things as organized as possible before I leave. I'm fairly confident that even when people leave for summer, there will still be enough people to keep the meetups going over summer.
  17. Well I never really thought of myself that way. Maybe I am a mahou shoujo. And yeah, I think Power Rangers could be fun.
  18. I'll mash any game once. I don't really have any experience with any of those games but I'll try them and see if I like them. Go ahead and bring whatever necessary stuff to play them. Also: Regarding our new "Kusoge setup" idea. If anyone knows any fighting games that aren't really good but might be fun to mash in for a little while, feel free to suggest them. Or any smaller fighting game that you don't think people would main or take seriously, but still want to play. I know we have plans for Jackie Chan: Fists of Fire, Karnov's Revenge, and Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game. I heard someone want to play Wonderful World but said it wasn't really a crap game.
  19. Yeah I'll definitely pick up AH3 again if people want to play it. I'm still not convinced that there is a game more anime than that. MB is maybe a close second. I dunno. Also I am a wizard now! Hooray!
  20. Tonight was some good stuff. I am always glad to see new faces, i'm glad everyone could make it out. I hope everyone continues to come out, too! Sounds like tournaments will be a regular thing, and we might be picking up Guilty Gear again (and Arcana Heart?) next friday from the looks of things! So if anyone's lurking and wants to play GG, AH3, definitely post and try to make it out next week! Also Jackie Chan! Very fun game. I am really proud of everyone for making these meetups as big as they are now. I'm super thankful to everyone that comes out and plays, it gives me something to look forward to at the end of the week during hard times. I'm really going to miss these meetups during summer. So let's make next week amazing, since I won't be around for a while after that. I can't wait for the Waifu Wars to begin.
  21. mine supports VGA, DVI, and HDMI. no component, sorry.
  22. The monitor I bring is an Acer and we've basically decided that it's lagless, so yay more monitors
  23. Nice turnout tonight guys. Also a surprising amount of hype for BB! I hope those guys I talked to show up on friday. It was nice to actually sit down and play some BB on a box arena night for once too.
  24. Let me know if you guys see any models based on G Gundam, I love that show. I imagine it didn't get many models but I could be completely wrong.
