Yet all those fundamentals and advanced setups can be (and often are) nullified with a random guess ultra. My main complaint on MvC3 isn't simply that the execution barrier is lowered. It's that "braindead easy beginner combos lead to ridiculous damage off single pokes", in a series where stray hits happen very often. Like it or not, execution IS an important factor in gameplay mechanics and balance. Heavy damage combos SHOULD take a lot of setup and precision, not four buttons and a qcf. Why has it become the standard to institute a universal comeback mechanic that allows you to get bodied for the majority of the match and still win from a hail mary? Can't scrubs just take their beatings without having something to fall back on? Justin Wong was amazing with all his clutch comebacks. Now a reverse OCV is almost expected with the duration and damage from a level 3 X-factor.

EDIT: Just picture this. Would GG be any good if they gave every character an ABC chain combo into super that took over half life (and did 100% in a special "rage" mode). Would this stifle combo creativity in actual gameplay? Would players be motivated to even learn more advanced setups or combos that barely did more damage? Would you play this game?

The changes from the old MvC2 characters to their MvC3 versions is terrible, at least in terms of MSS. MvC2 Magneto had you pressing like a hundred buttons per second, required precise tri-dashing and creative resets to keep your offensive momentum. The most fearsome and fun to play rushdown in any FG I've touched. The new Magneto literally only needs one combo then he can DHC into anything or do lvl 3 for a dead character at any point in the combo. If you're feeling even lazier you can literally just sit back and do EM Disruptor xN until the opponent forgets to block and dies. Old Storm I admit you could play fairly effectively by just running away whiffing jump fierce then punishing with hailstorm or doing magic series aircombo into America's favorite, but with the damage levels in MvC3 Ice storm does stupid amounts of chip making her punishes even more braindead. Sentinel made the worst transition. In MvC2 he was probably the best overall character in the game but required very precise Dhalsim-like zoning and your execution had to be on point utilizing fly cancels and hitting FF combos and unblockable lasers. In MvC3 he was slowed down but his damage output and playstyle got even more flowcharted. His main pokes have super armor making them incredibly mashable. Not only that, they chain into launcher which leads into an EZ mode air combo into an OTG rocket punch xx super for over half life. A 5 hit combo I can hit completely stoned, on pad which will win you tournament matches. GG tl;dr MvC3 MSS got babyzoned

NORCAL INSTALL! [Main Information and Ranbat Update Thread]

We can do both if you want, I'm pretty free either way. In the end, whoever wins at games probably loses with girls anyway. My bad Dacid, didn't see this post. Let's do this. -

?__? As an aside, DKL still really wants to get a stream up for the SFSU weekly casuals. Surprisingly, no one wants to play SSF4 much anymore, it's all AH3 and Marvel. How about FT7 I win and you come out and stream . -

So I was like, hmm, I might actually have access to a car to attend next month's Blazing NCI. I can finally partake of my love for far east poverty games that hardly anyone plays. Then I come to this thread and everyone is talking about Marvel. Superfree at GG/MB/AH3. Pretty free at BB too . But of those I've met (Honnou, 10kai, qwerty, Coopa, Dacid) you guys are cool cats for running casuals with such a scrub. Anyway, anyone lets MvC3 FT7 or higher (game's too random and the damage is so high) for $10 or more. Will play high stakes too . -
Clockw0rk was playing Hsien-Ko + Doom Hidden Missiles assist for some major blockstun. I love Dog/Robot. My team is Robot/Dog/Big Robot
-
TBH each of those character's assists work well for any character in the game. The new MSS sure as hell isn't MvC2 MSS, but it's awesome in it's own way. Probably one of the early top tier teams. You have safe DHCs in any order. You can DHC into drones, ice storm or Grav squeeze for easy follow up damage. Drones assist is some of the best horizontal coverage in the game, Typhoon assist outprioritizes so many projectiles, and EM Disruptor comes out ridiculously quick.

The fact that people are still releasing combo videos featuring new and interesting twists on the game engine 10 years later is a testament to MvC2's (completely accidental) awesomeness. Hope that MvC3 is the type of game that is funner to play high, as opposed to only fun when high. As for Arcana Heart 3, decide on your own if it has potential for you as a player, comprende?

It plays like a hybrid between TvC and MvC2, with engine leaning towards TvC (because 3D) and most of the system mechanics from MvC2. To be honest it looks really dumbed down compared to the predecessor. In an attempt to balance things out they seem to have given everyone easymode 100% combos instead of a select few in specific situations requiring specific conditions (including executional skills). You have enough untechable time after a knockdown to basically go to a change machine, get quarters, go to a soda machine, get a Pepsi (or root beer, your preference), finish drinking the soda at a leisurely pace, call your grandmother on a payphone and chat about the weather, then come back and OTG them into a super. But then again the Vs. started out looking really dumb in the first place, until niggas got real hardcore on dat Marvel crack. Snap judgements are bad on a game that isn't even out yet, but I don't like the general direction the game is headed. If you want a good game, you should play AH3 .

Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA vs Mad Catz TE vs Qanba Empire Arcadia
tastylumpia replied to Option89's topic in Beginner Mode
TE is pretty much standard. Can't go wrong with this stick. Very easy to mod and change artwork too. HRAP V3SA has cleaner wiring and a better PCB compared to MadCatz stuff. Only disadvantage is it's significantly lighter than the TE., if that's a problem to you. What I'm surprised is no one has mentioned the Qanba. It's a relatively unknown company but they have some of the best sticks I've ever tried. I tried both the Q3 and EMP sticks. The difference is the solid wood construction compared to standard plastic. If I had the $, I'd go for one of these. Also, the new Q4 is multiconsole PS3/360, but unfortunately is not wood constructed. It kind of looks like a V3 ripoff in design. -

Yeah I meant RC-> safejump. The timing didn't seem that difficult, I've blocked wakeup DP fine after the meaty j.C. As for crumple, I have no idea. Most people just mash tech after 22C. -

You can safe jump with Ragna's j.C after a 22C (unrollable). Very useful for keeping pressure after a BnB ender. There's probably many more useful SJs with other characters I'm not aware of. -
The funniest thing about this debate and the one on SRK is half the people talking shit will end up not attending either tournament. It'll be "Hey guys, I would've gone but GF/money/family problems" option select again then more sitting at home talking shit on the chat stream the day of the event. I will be going to REV, but probably for Marvel, not BBCS. Yo Rin, hit me up. Been trying to get a GS gig, lol. PS your trailer was hype as shit, good stuff.

LK's GAMEPLAY RELATED QUESTIONS ONLY question thread
tastylumpia replied to Lord Knight's topic in Archive
I probably should've been clearer. I have no problem with playing lame or exploiting tactics. I love broken shit, MvC2 is my favorite game. My point wasn't that he isn't good, it was that what he IS good at (on top of solid fundamentals) is finding and using whatever the strongest tactic or character in whatever games he plays to their fullest effect. Some players will gravitate to certain characters because they like their playstyle or aesthetic design or whatever. Tokido seems to have played so many games he will simply say "This character is top, I will use him" then play that character in a way that maximizes his chances of winning. Seems like a formula for success to me. -
LK's GAMEPLAY RELATED QUESTIONS ONLY question thread

I was referring to the SF4 series in general. Yes, I can read and I know all about the setup. I went to school with Richard Nguyen (creator of the video) and played casuals with him before. There's convoluted methods to escape it, but it still fits the criteria of an unblockable (which doesn't mean the same as inescapable). As for Tokido, he's been using Akuma since vanilla up to AE as far as I'm aware. http://iplaywinner.com/news/2011/1/5/super-street-fighter-4-tier-list-january-2011.html Akuma has always been one of the top characters in the SF4 series, really only his very bad health is what holds him back. According to Tokido, once he gets the untechable knockdown he's practically the best character in the game, lol. I'm not hating on him at all, he does what he needs to do to win. I'm just pointing out a trend in his gameplay. Anyone who plays ST knows how brain dead the Claw dive loop is. Doesn't mean Tokido is braindead, if anything, it means he's smart for using (and abusing) such a powerful tactic. -
