  1. I'm surprised that it's even a question if Tokido tier whores. Every game I've seen him play (he plays MANY) he automatically goes for the dumbest, easiest top tier BS character/tactic available. DL always goes on about how he wins at BB because he has these mythical "fundamentals" but to me it seems like yes, he does have great basics, but ultimately he wins because he's an expert at finding and exploiting the cheapest fucking shit in every game he finds, whether it be 3S Urien unblockables (then whoring out Chun pokes, when he realized Urien wasn't that great), ST Claw wall dive loop (the most brain dead mixup ever) or SF4 Akuma vortex and ambiguous/unblockable crossups. Which goes to my question, LK (or any other multi-game player), do you see any commonalities in what makes a character top tier in their respective game? Is it usually something like good pokes, great mixup, damage output, some gimmick they can exploit the system with, or a combination of these? I've been wondering this because I've heard Viscant from SRK say that a game's top tier is a reflection of that game's underlying principles or mechanics, what the game is really "about". I may not necessarily agree with that. Your thoughts?
  2. Street Fighter 1: B Tier: Ryu, Ken Joking aside, I heard AH3 is really balanced (many people saying just a two tier character list?) I'm just not a fan of the whole nerfing the current top tier and buffing low tier, creating a new top tier thing. Do all the players really benefit, or just the ones who happen to be playing a character that's much better in the newer version?
  3. I can attest to this, I've seen good players made to look dumb with repeated purple throws/reject misses to the point where they just mash OS tech. The mixup is gimmicky, but it works.
  4. Bursting strategy is something I surprisingly don't see get nearly as specific discussion as other gameplay elements, seeing the magnitude it can have in determining the outcome of a match. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/content.php?9-bursting I see a lot of smart offensive/defensive burst usage in GG play. Given the system mechanics differences, bursts are obviously used more sparingly and defensively in BB, but it's interesting to see how that changes given the new mechanics in CS2. Burst baiting is a really interesting unknown topic to me too. I see good players do some interesting stuff in anticipation of/attempt to entice a burst, to not always successful ends. May not be as important for a high damage character like Litchi who ends combos in good position anyway, but knowing when an opponent will or will not burst is some kind of yomi mastery that seems to come from experience and a good understanding of the opponent and flow of the match as well as the specific character matchup. But then other times it just seems random and it looks like you pretty much just wasted your combo for no good reason.
  5. It's funny reading all this shit for a game whose total lifespan is barely over a year with most people just now realizing how good Tao is, coming from a MvC2 background where year 1-2 tier lists had shit like S tier Doctor Doom. In that game all kinds of nonsense that was considered broken or inescapable eventually became obsolete from the discovery of other broken nonsense. Just makes you wonder about if a game like CS1 (or even SSF4) were given a bit longer to develop shifts in the metagame before the mighty hands of the balance patch "fixed" stuff that was perceived too good/bad (assuming the game has the depth to support this exploration). Doesn't really matter much either way, we're speaking in the context of a country that collectively can barely IB/react to overheads/tech throws/perform rudimentary defensive maneuvers.
  6. Wow, it's like a stumbled onto a music forum arguing over what constitutes "indie rock" (a term often used in reference to a specific genre identified by specific stylistic conventions, independent of the literal denotation of independent production, to much confusion and great dispute). The difficulty is multi-fold because you have two distinct meanings referring to similar things, yet they don't mean the same thing (or do mean the same thing depending on who you're talking to). And the relationship between the two terms is blurred depending on your own ideas of whether you think one necessitates the other or not, etc., all of which are context-dependent. Rin just didn't know the literal definition and/or wasn't aware of Arcana Heart's background and applied whatever his own loose conception of the word was. It's hard to blame him. When you think of "dojin games" people will associate the term with stuff like janky dating sims, shmups/bullet hell, puzzle/minigame spinoffs and airdash fighters all of which are hella anime. They often can be original IPs as SJ brought up, or very loosely derived from existing series to varying extents, depending on the unoriginality of the developers and how widespread the genre conventions are, for the simple fact that many of the doujin games published fall into those categories and conventions. Arcana Heart stylistically fits the bill on what many people would associate with your typical dojin loli anime fighter, regardless of whether it was independently produced or not. At it's core, it's really just semantic nit-picking. tl;dr:"doujin" has a specific meaning in reference to how the game was produced, but can be loosely used as genre terminology in reference to how the game actually looks/plays. Regardless, Rin should've been more careful considering the context of his error.
  7. Slept through this msg. Thanks for the offer anyway ^_^. It would've been another Ragna/Tager if I would've come through .
  8. I would go to this for TvC and pizza (BBCS, maybeee). But there ain't no BART in Fairfield D=.
  9. I have a new V3 (PS3 equivalent). Very nice shape, sleek design, viewlix layout (less curvature than HRAP3, but very comfortable). The only downside I can think of is it's a bit light, noticeably lighter than a TE or standard HRAP. If that's too much of a problem, just stuff something in like a roll of quarters or a wood board like I did.
  10. I thought I was on GFaqs for a second reading that one post.
  11. I dunno, whether it be the OG mafioso type or wannabe bangers, too much huffing and puffing either way, just one dresses classier than the other. But what ya'll know about getting stupid dumb out here in the bay? Hyphy = hype
  12. NorCal needs its own slang. I'm feeling mighty salty that all the FGC vocabulary is basically ripped from NYC/CTF cats via streams where dudes like Spooky be putting niggas on blast. It kind of filtered down to where everyone is saying the same stuff now. Don't get me started on the random out-of-place pringles references (lol get blown up GFaqs Smash board). Real talk, run it back with some WC shit.
  13. Yo fuck you, you play SnK games. Shit is gdlk where I can relaunch juggle into the corner mashing C with Zero, get bursted on, then burst them back into the corner for a free reset. Also Morrigan boobies look great in 3D.
  14. Get hype for donating to Rod's "get a new Brokentier shirt" fund.
  15. Disappointed with some character inclusions/exclusions like everyone (lol generic transplants, qq no Strider), but the roster is decent enough with some interesting new faces. In terms of gameplay, I hope it really is "10 more years" of evolution and hype matches. Right now it's looking like TvC status "ABC chain launcher ABC super" for every character. All these screen-filling explosion supers, full-screen pushblocking and air exchange mashing looks scrubby. I know it's still pre-release, but I hope they find tons of broken stuff that will make interesting and exciting competitive play. Marvel was like crack, this is looking like marijuana status (decent enough but a bit mellow).
  16. Hey NorCal, let's play TvC. It's this game made by Capcom except it's Wii exclusive, has random obscure animu chars, plays like a donjon fighter and has tournament legal giant chars. Anyone with Wii/GC sticks/converters, get at me.
  17. Happy new year everynyan. How are you? Fine, thank you. I would've posted earlier but I only recently sobered up. This past winter holiday season has just been a haze of inebriated gaming and sleep deprivation. 2010, you will forever remain in my memories. Somewhere in between Rod's house, the 28 stop and my relatives' place I engaged in a number of embarassing nonsensical conversations (more than usual). Not sure about the exact sequence of events. At least I don't have an angry girlfriend yelling at me. Just know that good times were had with Norcal peepz. Free bromantics to everyone. Stay chronic tier.
  18. GGs to Guren Kaina, Severin and Dacid blowing me up, stick malfunctions and sleepylife Norcal.
  19. Everyone should just play more bemani games.
  20. Since we're posting videos... Also, I'd definitely drop by SVGL, if I can get a ride.
  21. Time to get my GG jigga up in this nigga. I'm bringing chocolate peppermint cookies (the special kind ).
  22. Maybe qwerty mistook your white ass for me. :I Type B FTL. Real men (read: GG rejects) play Type A.
