The Brain Box (Boston, Massachusetts and parts of New England) Thread
sinder replied to Troll Badguy's topic in East Coast
Dead Much... I haven't been serious about blazblue lately because of all this college acceptance hype, and I haven't been to brain box in ages, and I don't think I'll be going back until June. People are also getting mad at me since I'm not even trying, but then again I'm a Carl player so I don't have to :D Just waiting for Fordham right now......... Well there's my reason. What about everybody else? -
Is mid-screen 2D>6C worth it? Damage for the full combo is about 4000, but I don't see many people doing it because the timing on 6C after backdash is not strict, but not easy peasy either Anybody else using this combo... MID SCREEN, not corner Ok so I was just in training mode to verify the different options/damage potential If you're interested on exactly what I actually pulled off: C-O-N state only 5B>6B>623C [2D]> ]2D[ 44> 6C (charge until ground bounce property kicks in)> jB>j2C>jB>jB>j2C>jC+8D>j2C>allegretto>8D>3C (optional, and I don't think I used this... I'll post the official replay later if anybody is interested) does about 3710 without 3C Here is the combo that I actually did, and it gave me about 4k (4.1k) something like that: 5B>6B>623C [2D]> ]2D[ 44> 6C (charge until ground bounce property kicks in)> jB>j2C>jB>jB>jC>Volante>5C>B>j2C>jB>jC>8D>J2C>Allegretto>8D>3C OK so I think this might be my new mid screen BnB. It does solid damage and it gains great meter. You can also leave out Allegretto>8D for a reset opportunity with 6C and 3D unblockable, or 2D> 3C if you're feeling risky

Well, the match up isn't so bad, because as stated above, Bang's hit box is generous to Carl mix-up. If the Bang player is jump happy, Brio is very effective as it puts him in a CH (counter hit) state, which means free combo or free corner carry. 8D is also effective because of the same reason. After he gets into FRKZ or whatever mode (all white) the match may seem like it got a little more difficult, but it really doesn't. Again as somebody posted before being patient in this matchup makes it seem a lot easier than what it appears to be. Brio completely stops his jump shenanigans and the only low move you should worry about his his sllide since it has a Fatal property now.
-
Spacing is also important to consider in this match I agree with Brio being a very useful tool also, it is definitely better than 8D. However 8D is great if you can predict an air dash form your opponent. Whenever you are in C-O-N state in this match it gets a little tricky since one mess up can make hakumen get a free combo. I usually jump away after a reset attempt because it can easily be countered. I also looked at the grab during ADA move method and even though it works sometimes, I would be positioned in a situation that you describe in the subsequent paragraph, where the timing issue can become an advantage to haku.

Their Gameplan: ??? Strategy:??? Ok, so I have fought a bazillion mus both local and off, and they all have differing gameplans. For example, some Mus like to spam lasers which can be fun to avoid, but aggravating to win against. Other mus have rushed me down in 2 combos and won. I really have no idea how this match up is supposed to be played by either player, so let's look at what the Mu players have to say: Even though one guy posted, it's clear that he knows the laser spam is a good option to use against Caruru, which I can agree on as well. The laser game eats up all volantes, and it is like your trying to get into a castle (Mu) that is being protected by a bunch of guards (Lasers) I tried vivace, and i get mixed results... her 2B can stop it with ease, as they know that Carl players are going to spam that semi invulnerable property. however, I also gained easy access into the castle... I mean Mu o_0... Anyway, Mu players just say that spamming lasers keeps the guy out, and that makes sense, but what happens when you get in? What to do in CON Her DP (the diamond shield) can be baited easily, and even better is the amount of punishing you are able to do when baited successfully. other than that she has 2A, which is not as good as 2b and can be beaten with alle-can. If you see a Mu mashing 2A, tell them to look at the wiki How would you rate this Match up? Definitely in her favor with laser spam. I mean, you can sometimes have trouble seeing the screen with all the lasers flying everywhere. Plus a Mu player can rapid fire that all day, and you may never get in, regardless of all the vivaces you do Videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZWmjBz9BK0#t=3m30s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK5--v4AeCU#t=5m15s

One of the most frustrating match-ups for Carl Their Game plan: Kill Carl Strategy: Be smart, play safe, and act carefully Match up in a nut shell Easily one of the most one sided matchups in the BB series. Ever since CT, Haku has been stomping Carl, and continues to do so in Extend. Anybody who says Haku is free to Carl should be slapped, because even new Haku players can do good damage on Carl with just C alone. Howeverm what makes this matchup extremely tricky is Zanshin (dun dun duun) That damn counter move should not work when ADA hits him, otherwise this matchup would be cake. However that is not the case since it can activate whether or not you hit him or she does. the best part is, you can be nowhere during the zanshin animation, but the game will automatically teleport you in Haku's hand (works when spacing is good enough for connecting) Nevertheless, Zanshin can be beaten with a throw, which is where this match can become even more tricky since you will adapt to a game of "will Haku counter or throw me?" This can destroy the mix up game, which is why fuoco is your better option. Volante can go through Zanshin, but and C attack will create an orb/ As a matter of fact, here is a list of all the moves that create an orb on the screen when it makes contact with Haku's sword volante Brio 8D Gear Super Rhapsody of memories May not look long, but some moves can really make both players turn their head What to do in CON or in any other state You have to be careful with mixups/crossups because his counters can negate most of them. you can mash throw all you want, but if a Haku player is really using D to that effect then I don't see why you're here. His damage is insane, and after a D move, you can be put in a bad position when on wakeup. Haku can easily kill ADA with 6C or any other straight long range variation of it, so you need to be cautious of her gauge in this match. If you get him in the corner, congrats, but watch or for Yukikaze, as that move is notorious for all the salt it brings to any opponent a haku faces. I would say that your best bet is to play mind games with him, instead of focusing so much on pressure. However, be careful because Haku can easily make a come back in this fight How would you rate this match up I wanna say 3-7. As a matter of fact I rage quit on a Haku today because I was so frustrated with how the match turned out. Anyway, don't rage quit, take the salt and take a jog outside, then come back and pray that you make the right choices in the next haku match. It's probably Carl's most difficult match up, but others may think otherwise Videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H39w9NvjqYA#t=7m40s Nisshi vs Chin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEoRESVuAWQ#t=5m55s Ryuusei vs Mezu Maru http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzXV5xheUVE#t=8m10s Ryuusei vs 0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DUQAdL1j_Q#t=3m5s Kyaku vs 0 DISCUSS

Ok, better late than never. With CP around the corner, some of this stuff will be helpful so it can be a copy/paste job for the future Since this match is much different than what it used to be (a free win), I think there needs to be a lot of specifics addressed. The beginning of the match is important, BUT since Tager can win this match with the press of a button during mid match you need to be careful. Here is a description of this dreaded match up... well it's still fun, but he is no longer super free to us Beginning of the match Depending on the player, Tager will usually do the following, and I'll post why (if you're a Tager player and you have different reasons for doing a move please post it here) 5C Can stuff Carl and Ada. Forces you to block or do an air back dash. If you use fuoco you can stuff it, but why you would use fuoco like that is beyond me. Your best bet would be to back dash and get away from him. 5C alone can't reach Ada from her starting position, but IF you use fuoco Tager can sledge through it and take health away. 5D 5D is the move where Tager throws his fist out and it can magnetize you. If you can react quickly enough you can use j.c and 4D to counter it. 4D has a crazy hit box and Ada doesn't get hit by 5D (however every other move you do will cause her to get hit). Back dashing is another option you can use. At the beginning of the match it will hit Carl, and will magnetize him so be smart and hide behind your sister but don't activate her! 2D Tager does some sort of tackle which could also magnetize you. This move is easily punishable with 4D or all-can 6A This move is where Tager just stands there with his arm in the air. It is useless in the beginning of a match when you aren't magnetized but some Tagers do this for some reason... it is vulnerable to lows so 2B or a slide stuff it, but the slide deals more damage on counter hit, plus you should fight dumb with dumber (doing a neutral 3C aka slide is suicide) j. C Dumb. Brio and a well timed 2A can counter this. 2C will clash so don't even bother (but it is sad if they do get hit, which means they weren't thinking strategically. That is because j.C's animation would have ended before 2C, so essentially they just mashed :x) 236 A-->236 A or 236 B--> 236 A Sledge Hammer The netplay savior of all tagers in this MU. Even though this move is punishable on block (you can use 5B to punish the second hit of sledge) lag time can make it safe and they can 360 you (yes). Also, the second hit of sledge hammer a ridiculous hitbox and you will trade even though you are not in the way. Best example would be using a j.b while behind tager, you will still get hit, and tager wil recover faster than you. Sledge hammer is also vulnerable to lows just like 6A. HOWEVER sledge beats every Ada move in the game, and he can go right through it (even fuoco) so you need to punish it with Carl alone. Don't bother with using Ada as it will cause her to lose health and you need A LOT of it because of this mix up game that you need to pressure tager with. The rest of the match Ok, do you're behind Ada now which is good (usually you will be) now what you should do next is the next part of this sad match. It is ok to let Tager charge for spark bolt since Ada can take the hit for you, but if you're too close it will still magnetize you. When you aren't magnetized you should aim for the usual C-O-N setup, but there are some things I want to make not of. 1. Tager's backdash makes Alle-can mixups useless and he can punish you for doing it 2. Aim for low attacks as much as possible (3D is probably the best option until Tager has less than half of his health.) Carl should not be grounded because Tager's can 360 him out of a lot of things (5B, 2B,) 6C is good, but it's counter hit stun isn't string enough to continue your combo 3. Don't leave any gaps for resets. This is probably the most challenging choice I had to make when playing this because I'm very used to it. Tager's 360 and 720 grabs are better than any DP for other Carl MU. Never stay grounded during gaps, you always want to be in the air. However if you become predictable they can 2C you which will lead to a fatal. 4. Always watch out for meter on both sides. Cantata does a bad job at protecting you if Ada loses all of her health since Tager can sledge through it. Tagers will generally Tech wheel if they are being pressured well, so if you get a tech wheel during your pressure string you're doing a good job, give yourself a pat on the back. If they RC afterwards you don't have to worry about 720, but they will probably use 360 or 2C depending on the situation. To avoid this, run away and throw the Tager off. You just wasted all his mete so don't risk anything by continuing pressure Magnetized/Gadget finger reset :8/: If you get magnetized... you lost (well not really but let's take a look at why you done goofed) If you get magnetized, you will see a lot of goofy things going on in the fight. Tager players will get hit confirms that both players will not expect. Carl will fly around the stage so quickly which can mix up your inputs for Ada (most common is con anima coming out instead of fuoco) You will be subject to 5AAA, B which is dumb. Did I mention 360? Gadget finger reset ok, this sucks for Carl because neutral is the worst position any Carl player wants to be in. This is the ONLY reason why I see this as being an even match up for Tager. Tager's use of 5A can prevent you from calling Ada, and leave Carl alone. The Tager player can use 5A--B for a low mix up. 5A can also prevent Carl from air dashing backwards. If you do manage to block 5A>B>6B then good job, but since you're magnetized you can also get 360'd or an atomic collider. Therefore you will either get lucky by jumping a way (avoiding 360) or using a poke to retaliate (VERY rare, but if they use atomic collider instead of 360 your poke will punish) What should I do during gadget finger reset? Unfortunately this is where grappling character gimmicks come into play so there isn't a set solution that will always let the Carl player win . Therefore, you need to guess right and get away from tager as quickly as possible. Either play can make or break the match if they win the guessing game, but Tager has a higher chance of punishing your mistake Brief run through of what to do in match up 1. Stay in the air and 3D when in C-O-N. Very important. 2. If you get magnetized there is still hope, just stay away full screen as much as you can 3. If you do get gadget fingered into neutral, allegretto is probably your BEST option, if anybody knows of another don't hesitate to say what 4. JG's varied unblockable loops are beautiful. If you change up your unblockables you will do well, but DO NOT DO IT WHILE YOU ARE GROUNDED. Tagers LOVE to disrespect by mashing 360, regardless of how good a Carl player your are (watch Akira and Ryussei, I will post the link to their set as soon as I find it) Here is the unblockable set up you want to abuse during this match 5B>6B>6D>6C>5B>2B>5C>3D> air dash forward>j.A>j.B>j.A>j.2C>j.B+3D>j.B>j.A,J.A[x until Ada is about to die) Remember to time 3D well, or you will reset everything too soon. If that happens, you may be grounded in front of Tager and you know what that means... There is also a vortex that you can use which is 5B>j.2C>j.B>j.C this can take out a lot of health on tager. Remember that this is C-O-N only and you need to push Ada closer to Tager to have these moves connect continuously. Throw in a 3C after the second j.B of the 3rd rep to reset and create frame traps that will stuff 2C mash attempts *** If you can't do either loop don't worry, it's not necessary and do not be intimidated by the 3D reset timings. They are MUCH easier than they seem (on here that is) old video of how this match changed from CT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8WZhbmMP4I ok, now Tager players can troll and say how they have it hard. This will be entertaining Mind you, Carl has been laughing at Tager for what, 3 years?

NOPE! I will definitely discuss her last. She is not that hard, but her mix up game is what makes MOST players say she is a bad match up. Once you get used to it though, the match up becomes much happier for you :D! With that being said, her mobility is one of the best in the game (Personally, I think it's the best) However she has poop defense so one unblockable reset will automatically kill her (exacty why most Tao players will burst as soon as you have ADA involved in a blockstring) Mu- 12 is understandable Haku is understandable Tager is interesting because I find him much more difficult to face online than offline Haz has actually gotten a slight twist to it Jin is meh, since he doesn't really do a corner game anymore I might focus on Haku and Haz next since those two should have a thread by now (I still need to find Bangs for that thread, or you guys can add) Says the guy who 10-0 me with ease last week, I'll be getting my revenge

Besides the Tager match up,what other match ups are people having trouble with when using Carl????????????????????????

That's carls semi half ass cs2 unblockable setup By the looks of your notation you're pressing 3d to early You need to release 3d after j.b Otherwise they will be in a.... 3d slouching state

Punishes: Their game plan: Strategy:
-
Pre-Curse Their game plan: Curse cloud shenanigans, zoning, keep away, party bug, pressure Strategy: Your goal in this match is to catch Arakune before you get cursed. I would say easier said than done, but to be honest it really isn't that hard to catch Arakune. His air dashes can be annoying but you have a couple of options of getting him Volante You can even use an option select where you hide Carl from saying volante by pressing 5A. Sneak volantes work wonders in this match Brio Standard fly trap since it will usually get him in a Counter hit state which means free combo or corner carry Vivace Use this but don't spam it as they can just summon cloud and that prevents you from jumping and it fills his curse gauge. his 2C (where he swims) can ruin vivace though so be careful and don't try to cross him up without ADA Alle-Can Only in C-O-N state. Alle- can is risky because 5C is not only a fatal now, but it is invulnerable on his upper body. fuoco Good catching tool overall, but don't use it too much or become predictable Arakune has some great air dash tricks with J.a and J.b which can lead to an instant curse. BE CAREFUL. In terms of pressure, they best he has is 6A which you can vivace out of. Same goes with j.a and j.b. 2.a can lead to 6.B which helps build curse, but after using 6.A you would be gone by then When Cursed Their game plan: Mash into hit confirm>over 9000 combo (Carl will die instantly) Strategy: Do not try to look slick and chase Arakune while you're cursed. Even with ADA it can be hell dealing with the curse. Usually you would just get as far away as possible from Arakune and using 8D and Brio all over the place. Cantata is difficult to rate since it can buy time but it also makes Carl Vulnerable since Arakune can teleport around it. Vivace is also unsafe because of recovery frames which will be enough time for Arakune to use C bug and start a full fledged combo. General Overview This match up isn't so bad when you aren't cursed, but once you are it becomes a pain since he can easily kill ADA and you at the same time Once again. it is better to end the match without getting curse at all, so try as best as you can to avoid traps and catch him while he is throwing them at you Vids from Video Thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ynFiIuSBzQ#t=9m10s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK5--v4AeCU#t=8m50s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ix3pjoFH5-E#t=48m55s
