Morrigan can unfly during the Freeze-frames of a hyper. So characters such as Strange that possess incredibly quick hypers cant even punish Soul Fist on reaction. Morrigan is unique for the fact that she is the only character in the game that can Fly/Unfly special moves, This means her 3f DP is 100% safe on block or whiff, she can cancel blockstrings into Soul Fist and AD away etc. Morrigan on her own is fairly Meh considering the damage, but her mobility and the fact she is so safe makes her infuriating.
Then you add Doom missiles. Tracking missiles that never disappear until they hit something. You can call them incredibly quickly and Doom is pretty safe. You gain access to the Doom TAC combo which can can anyone in the game all whilst building around 3-4 bars, obviously 5 if you do the infinite. Doom isn't that strong on his own, but then he is backed by
Lvl 3 X-Factor Vergil. I don't need to explain this one. If Vergil is the only guy left on the opponents team, any Air Grab or stray confirm means death, No character can survive a full combo.
So, Do you snap in Vergil instead of killing Morrigan? Or do you lose characters and a few bars killing Morrigan. Do you snap in Doom and let Morrigan live?
Dormammu with properly backed assists is considered one of the best counters to MorriDoom. Once Dorm has some spells charged you can mount a pretty ghetto fightback. Though I've yet to see it work.
Don't get me wrong. Chris G plays this team better than anyone else, and Y'know. He plays other characters incredibly well, too. It's just that this team MURDERS hype. At FR16 I heard one guy clap when he won, no hype, Yipes didn't say much, Combofiend was bored as fuck and he stream was 100% ResidentSleeper.
