[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
Luminos564 replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
I always thought of Order Sol as little more than a fanservice character like Kliff and Justice. I would say having him on the roster is unnecessary since we've already got a functional Sol...if I were a fool and didn't play Order Sol almost exclusively during the days of the PS2 AC+. Honestly, I'd like to think his chances are 50-50. Even if Sol beating him is canon (IIRC the reason Sol's Dragon's Install is increasing in power is beacause Order Sol damaged the Gear Prevention device during the clash). You and me both. Where there's May there's Johnny. Or is it the other way around? -

Jam was never really in danger of losing her slot. She's been a GG mainstay since, what, GGX? I figure it'd be more of a surprise if she DIDN'T make the cut in this one. Man I don't even need to see her attack. Just her spinning-plate victory animation XD. -
[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
Luminos564 replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
Woke up this morning and the first thing I saw was the new trailer. Been watching it for hours now. Only question remains: do I get the game for PS3 or PS4? PS3 has been my good an loyal friend but he is at the end of his days (well not immediately but they are numbered). PS4 is what I was planning to get anyway sometime in the future with the only downside being that I need to be a PS+ member in order to play online. Decisions, decisions... -
I'm sorry your honor, I was too distracted by the epicness of the game to give heed to the paltry warnings of legal ramifications. Joking aside, I realize that it wasn't legal for anyone to record footage of the loketest but I also never understood why it isn't be allowed. What exactly is being lost here by showing footage to the rest of the world? People watching know it is a loketest and not the final version so there shouldn't be anyone thinking the changes are finalized. Or is it just the property ownership of the game and ATLUS/ASW don't want anyone touching the toy until it is ready to roll out?
-
I know it isn't the final version but it does at least allow people to see what has changed since the last version and gives us something to compare notes with. It also keeps the project from falling from pubic view.
-
Giggity. That sounds like such massive troll potential. "Oh look, you got tripped. Here let me recover 40% of my awakened health while you fall flat on your face".
-
And so, the ASW Gestapo strikes again. You know, we want to love your games ASW. So why must you take away from that? I always figured most companies liked free advertising and getting their project out there without having to pay someone to do it. Oh well, at least we saw something while we could.
-
Well can we say "hooray" for this? Granted, you likely won't ever need to throw out a naked SB Diarahan when you have not at least dealt with the opponent's movement in some way, but this will at least snuff out random Ziodyne (both Yu and Akihiko's) or Naoto's Pew Pew pistols and recover some much needed health post-awakening.

All of my YES! Oh what a happy, happy day . Lizzie is sounding more awesome by the day. I guess karma is trying to make it up to her because of P4A. Thank you stunedge for the wonderful news.
-
Why not? Someone needs to give Tiger Woods a Persona so the two could duke it out. Make it happen ATLUS!
-
I guess. I was trying to translate a mechanic based on a sport I have no extensive knowledge of into fighting game terms . I still stand that it likely sounds more complex on paper as opposed to seeing it in action.
-
Never said that a mechanic like this can't exist, just that on paper and by word of mouth not everyone would understand it. This is likely more of a case of "it's better to just show it in action rather than just explain it in text". Besides, it isn't like people will/won't play Junpei simply because they don't understand baseball terms. I know I won't be playing him but that's because I got my girl Lizzie and will likely stick with her to the end (also because Thanny is the most badass Persona and all others would likely shit their pants when they see him at the annual Persona Meet-n-Greet). No complaints here, just observations and opinions since that's pretty much all we got up to this point save for a few loketest vids here and there.

Good idea. He can bend the opponent over and paddle them on the ass for 9000 fratbro damage. I would have also suggested pool but then Venom might sue . The only spike in an ASW game I wanna see should come in the Dead variety. Also, WTF IS WRONG WITH HER HAIR!? IT'S PHASING THROUGH HER BOOBS LIKE A GHOST! Because it is using a language that a fighting game player may not necessarily understand. If I had to put it in an odd way, saying "Yeah I just scored a homerun after loading the bases with Junpei" may not tell an FG player anything useful but saying "Yeah I just did a combo that powered up Junpei enough for massive damage" will definitely tell them what happened. Yeah, they might understand the Layman version of "Hit them with bat, try not to whiff and don't get hit" but what happens if they wish to understand all that extra fluff? That's just my POV for better or for worse.
-
That and please do something to make Mamudoon have a use. I know that the move is an instant kill but when has there ever been a point to use Mamudoon? The charge time is horrible and is gone the moment Lizzie takes a hit/blocks. At least Mahamaon has utility in some, albeit situational, combos. Mamudoon, not so much. It really sucks when your character cannot really make use of any one move. Makes that character feel real weak.

That's a bit of a stretch. Only sports I ever semi-regularly watched were soccer and basketball in my youth. I fell out of love with televised sports around the time I noticed that I couldn't stand the commentators blabbing on and on. I'm not even able to watch all those videos of JPN Arcade tournaments because of how much they talk. Point is, I do not follow sports. I don't hate them, but I simply don't watch them enough to understand. Besides, what other sport would you have given to Junpei that involves hitting things with a long, straight, wooden stick?
-
I dunno how fantastic the design is for any audience really, but I am more than willing to admit that the idea is certainly unique. I mean, I certainly do not recall a fighter where a lunatic swings his bat at people in order to play a baseball match that only exists in his head... Joking aside, it does at least make Junpei pop out from the rest. And hey, he's at least integrating his sport into his fighting style. Why is Akihiko not accompanied by Mitsuru at all times to give a 10 count for each of his KOs?
-
Except for: 1. I do not play baseball nor do I understand its rules. 2. I do not know anyone who does play it or understands the rules. 3. I do not live in a country where the sport is prevalent enough to inherently understand it. I'm not saying anything ill about the sport itself. Just that there are people out there that do not have an ingrained knowledge of a sport to make full use of Junpei's gimmick. Though Narroo makes a solid point: if explained in FG terms, then it becomes easier to grasp. -Make sure to hit people with bat. -Make sure not to whiff bat hits. -Don't get hit. -??? -Gain points. That too .

I'm kinda hoping Randomizer helps her defense when she inevitably loses Thanny during Persona Break. Her major downfall was that she need him for, effectively, everything sans her Furious Action. Randomizer, since it lasts so long, could potentially serve as both a defensive maneuver and a means to give Thanny enough time to recover. Granted, she has 6 Persona Cards in comparison to everyone else's average of 3 and 4 (except Shadow Labrys) so she'll get more mileage out of him, but as others pointed out, it takes a lot of time to recover 6 cards as well. Certainly beats using Mind Charge for it at least.
-
Yeesh, that sounds...needlessly complicated. I personally have enough trouble keeping up with what happens on the screen without needing to check that tiny little score card. The fact that it is positioned to the right/left of the SP gauge doesn't do it any favors either and I imagine Junpei mirror matches will be confusing (at least in the the beginning). The idea is certainly interesting, it just has a few problems.
-
You serious? Well shit, sorry to have contributed to the breaking of that record . I'd have thought that most who are familiar with P4A know that it spoils the events of P3 very heavily and references them very often.
-
At this point I don't see how you could have avoided spoilers unless you lived on Mt. Olympus (the one on Mars, not the one where Zeus chills out at and bangs his close relatives) for the past 5~6 years. So with all this hype simmering I am dusting off my P4A copy and playing through the Challenges and Score Attack. An hour into this venture and my fingers are saying "Le fuck Luminos? We're dying over here". ATLUS, ASW we need to talk about this. I love your games but have some mercy on some people's fingers and stress levels FFS. There is a difference between a nice challenge and ball-busting frustration you know.
-
Coolio. Best of both worlds then .
-
Free in what way? As in to hit them? If that is the case then I can agree. Tossed out Agidyne (D) whenever they got slammed to get them closer for Thanny to 5D them. Strangely, they seemed to always see through that plan of mine and just ate the Agidyne raw .

I was thinking she's more like u-12 what with her shooting arrows through that parachute bomb, Garu Orbs that function like u-12's 236A and general spacing options. Maybe some Rachel in there as well.
-
I was going to say that being able to do Terra Eruption while your opponent is wailing on you (while blocking) sounds pretty useless since I recall Asterius being broken left and right, but then I remembered how huge the move actually is. Ideally, they'll stick him behind S.Labrys so he doesn't get hit by the opponent and watch as they go WTF.
