lol, rachel's anti-air is awesome, especially now that it has head invuln. but it still loses to air summon pumpkin 2d hehe. once they get hit by that a couple times, they'll probably try to start trying to j.c counter hit (or air grab) you though, and that's painful -
this thread'll probably be archived soon, but just to put it out there: instant overhead j.a doesn't work on hazama. rachel has to delay it to get it to hit properly (this is the same in extend)

if they throw a lobelia from long range, winded dash, don't block. there's plenty of time to react to a c-lobelia -

the point of my strategy is if they try to summon after winning the lobelia war, then i punish the summon point: trying to win a zoning war is typically a guessing game...punishing the other person for guessing wrong is a science -

rachel mirrors are simple. you wait for the opponent to summon something then punish them with winded dash. fighting a lobelia war is frustrating, so i let them win that war and save my wind for the real damage during rushdown. also, running away is a good option in this matchup...there's not a whole lot rachel can do if you just super jump backwards in the air if they're trying to do the whole lobelia spam then rush-down with pumpkin routine -
just a side note to chiizu, if you're just talking theoretically highest damage and heat combos, you'll get about 200 more damage off that bnb if you do = 5b 6b 5d 3[C] (5 hits) = as your starter instead of standard 5b 5cd. (for that SPECIFIC combo) i think in general it's better to do that starter anyway because you can confirm 5b 6b 5d 3[C] from farther away... (like if you hit them with the edge of 5b, 5cc won't connect, but 6b 3c will) edit: just spent a little more time in training. looks like it can be situational on which starter does more damage...just tried essentially the combo 15 bnb from the combo vid with both 5b 5cd 3[C] did 200 more damage than 5b 6b 5d 3[C]. so it can depend on the combo

@currentlemon, you should refer to the last rachel sanctuary for a more in-depth discussion, but the bottom line is the "normal" instant overhead works on all characters except litchi, noel, and hazama (the "normal" overhead being 5b 9 j.2d j.a). for hazama, you can get an instant overhead if you do the 2d before you jump, like right when you do the 5a/5b, but it defeats the purpose because they see the wind long before you do the overhead. (if i made an error someone correct me) just saying this because i only started doing this consistently recently, but if they manage to block the instant overhead, don't forget you can do a second jump for fuzzy guard.... 5b 9 j.2d j.a j.b "9" j.a j.a etc land ....... if they block the overhead, you still have a pretty good chance of hitting them with that fuzzy -
awesome combo vid. sakaku, do you know how much more damage these combos get than regular j.2c land 236b j.c etc combos get? just curious how much of a difference they make. just a question: why no combos off j.2c (level 2) "starter"?? (also, i'm really liking 5k off j.c counter hit)

the only reason i've been "trying" to keep up is that forum is that i've been doing a few casuals and tournaments on ex and since i dont have the game i have been watching videos incessantly trying to soak in whatever new combos / strategies i can and see what the japanese have found...not too much other than that george combo (which i have yet to see performed correctly btw) and doing a sort of triangle jump with wind into j.c counter (or j.b), which in testing on The Biter and Xie and others is actually quite useful and powerful, since j.c counters net nice damage oh. anddd when ppl are in george stun, using j.C (float) tactics is also pretty strong, especially if they tech after cutting bbl combos short -

lol topher i immediately sent him a message like wtf! and asked if he meant special cancel george combos and he said yes sakaku pointed it out in the japanese vids thread: "I tried it out in practice mode, it's not that difficult, nets us 3,3k damage and some nice corner carry into knockdown. The combo I did was CH 6A (dash) 5B j.C 2D j.2C j.214A 1D 5CC 236C (dash) (frog) 3C 214C 5CC 214B." having the damage of a j.2c (level 2) combo AND knockdown oki will be sweet -
sounds like fun. i would be in. are they at your house or something? "Of course, everyone who loses will earn a well deserved punishment. They will be decided prior to each battle, probably by me." i lol'd. sounds scary edit: getting free yen isn't scary.

haha, i watched that mixup like 10 times. so inventive AND practical. the second is a lolzy cross-up that i found hilarious the first time harakiri tiger did it to me ... like 3 months ago... it's a gimmick, but i guess it works even in japan lol. kure hane is the best

If he ib's ur j.2c on wakeup, you will get hit before you can 5b. Also, I'm not suggesting all you do is run, but you don't need to rush down tager for example when he is in the corner and you could use a few seconds to regain wind stocks, instead of using ur final wind stock/s to rush him down. And frankly, even if tager knows u're not going to rush him, there are no safe options for him to attack you. All he can do safely is walk forward. A very high level tager in my area says the lamer you play against tager, the better you will fare. Ummm, my matches against tager end in timeout...who said anything about actually beating tager? Lastly, the burst baits were correct, but honestly, good tournament players know not to burst in that situation, especially after you baited the first one. They were bad bursts.

How is hake getting in? 6a owns Haku in the air. I even will just air grab him if I want to avoid a possible counter. If he's dashing toward you, mash 2a, winded or non winded a-lobelia, whack him with pumpkin (assuming you have it summoned). if he's catching you off guard, I bet it's because you're doing unsafe summoning, though it's hard to tell without a video. Also, thanks polka and koto for the helpful info -
this. just to put my own spin, you did a lot of unsafe things against the tager that weren't punished because he didn't/couldn't IB (winded 6cc...even scrubby tagers usually punish that...starting block strings with j.2c...etc) ... he took a lot of damage trying to chase rachel down instead of being patient, which is how tager has to play the matchup i also agree you played too aggressively. you rushed down when you didn't have to and used up precious wind stocks, often til you had none left...a windless rachel against tager is a rachel in danger. and as a side note...if either of you were going for yomi, it's gonna look weird to us watching it because you've already conditioned each other. the litchi was a scrub. didnt block anything. nice ib'ing though on your part the lambda player was too passive and didn't know combos. he let you get away with unsafe summoning. instead of punishing your failed block strings, he just continued running away (he didn't know when he had the advantage). you could have been hit by lambda's 3c many times but he wouldn't use it.... you realllly don't want to get hit by that (5k+)...and yea, good lambdas dont miss with that many swords...i know he's not severin, but just to compare, at the last tourney, i didn't see severin whiff "one" sword in about 10 matches i watched.

I disagree with zeth's notion that because an auto-piloted pumpkin summon can be very dangerous. One of rachel's more basic neutral game strategies is to summon pumpkin in the air so she can wind it down and attack. Well, many players are familiar with this tactic and will air grab rachel before she has the chance to summon pumpkin. (Rachel also has less start up frames for a pumpkin summon mid-air as well, which also encourages the air summoning.) On the ground, unless Rachel is at full screen, she cannot summon pumpkin completely safely (and even then, she's not completely safe from lambda, hazama, bang's nails, platinum's items if she has the right ones, etc etc etc). Also, you may not be noticing in videos because ppl are getting throw counters before rachel's animation even comes out for pumpkin. And all this doesn't even account for things like: Rachel's pumpkin disappears on block. George disappears if Rachel is grabbed (whether teched or not) George has less hitpoints than in cs2. so ragna (and several members of the cast) can do away with rachel's zoning tools easier than before) etc. As far as Rachel having the tools, remember that her wind doesn't recover as quickly in extend as it did in cs2 which also can contribute to Rachel's neutral game decreasing in viability

so what i've been doing is delaying the j.a to hit chars like haz / noel, but if you delay the JUMP and do 2d before the jump then you can do the j.a right away. is that a correct statement? side note: i also do a gimmick of 2d jump ( 9 ) then 2b for a cross up . i get a super jump and rachel literally falls on top and then on the other side. obviously, if i'm going for overhead, i have to do 2d earlier, but this super jump gimmick works at least sometimes. -

so just to clarify... 5b 9 2d j.a should work on plat ? EDIT: ok, yeah, i need to spend more time in training mode -_- also, didn't know there was a gap between j.a and j.b, but no gap between j.a and j.c -

i think mayyybe in this situation, those extra 1-2 frames make a big difference on how blockable it is, but let me know when you test it out on spark ;P most people i try a delayed overhead on are reacting to the wind, so maybe i could do that 2d 2b dirty-ness you were suggesting on chars like haz, noel. unrelated, in a 3c frog oki situation, if you KNOW they're gonna roll, what do you do? mostly i tend to 2a to bait inward roll and if they roll away, honestly, all i've thought of against chars like lambda is to reset pressure with something like dash 5b/2a, but i would have had a reset pressure if they had simply emergency teched, so i'm not happy with the way i'm dealing with this situation. -

i can try it online and record the replay? then record it on a flip or something ? lol i've watched vids of matsu doing j.a overheads on hazama, but it always looks delayed to me @koto what about plat? also, lol that noel is invuln to ioh but i never have to worry about that cuz noels don't know how to block. and that 5a j.a trick on rachel... wow... why didn't i know that? lol
