  1. I've stockpiled quite a bit of schoolwork playing p4a, so I can't. Would like an opportunity to play you sometime though. You play Shadow Labyrs right? maybe you can give me a few pointers for Slab. :D I'm not so good yet, so I'm not sure if it'd be mutual beneficial, but at the very least Slab mirrors seem to be rather fun. On a somewhat related note, who here plays P4A on PSN? Would be nice to get some matches in with a decent connection. Mostly available Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  2. I honestly wouldn't say any character should be used as -the- starter character. They are all for the most part rather unique compared to each other, so the best way how to play the game with your character is to learn said character. They all get by with different things and utilize different aspects of the system better, so just pick one and commit to learning him/her. For example, Yu gets by alot of pressure easily with his dp, and can punish things most of the others can't, so learning him won't really help if you are trying to learn characters that need a stronger defensive base. This is really a conversation about which characters are the easiest fundamentally, but I wouldn't commit to learning any character but the one you are most interested in playing. Starting well and then hitting a barrier is a natural part of learning the character. If you come across a roadblock, you should clarify what the road block is, and polish the weaker parts of your playstyle that that roadblock exploits. Overcoming these hurdles will naturally make any character feel better for you.
  3. <--- SLab player There any Mitsuru players here who would like to play a few? I have ungodly difficulty beating her, and I was hoping I build up a bit of experience on the matchup and hopefully get a few pointers (still a bit new).
  4. You should see the league/sc2 communities. the FGC is nowhere near as bad in comparison. In relation to character choices/playstyles, it's just easier for a newer player to feel confident about what they are doing if they know it can/has been done. Piggybacking on pro's decisions is the fastest way to do that. Sometimes they are annoyingly vocal about it; I got shit talked for the longest time playing Urgot in league because of his bad reputation and non-existent tournament usage. Then a popular team used him in a big Tourney and won, and poof everyone used him. Point being it's just a natural aspect of any popular competitive game (sport, or even other industries) to prioritize and highlight the best known players of said game. You just have to accept it, take the majority's opinion with a grain of salt and move on. I'm just surprised that this argument arose from a couple of simple comments. The discussion has totally strayed from the initial topic.
  5. <--- Ze crappy Slab. Can't wait to fight... more... Teddie. >_> nah I kid, I face him so much I'm insensitive to it now; it's kinda fun when you get used to it. Welcome dude!
  6. What are some options out of the corner? The only things I've been able to do consistently are the obvious: DP, and Burst, which are risky choices by nature. Mitsuru's 2A easily outranges all of Slab's A normals, and punishes all her B normals before startup. I've tried to wait for the aerials, but her jump in isn't even touched by Slab's 2B it seems, on top of being seemingly too fast to react to. Cycling through my other choices, Asterious will never have an opportunity to move when I'm in the corner (typical, but just throwing it in there), Evasive roll is beaten out by what seems like everything because of where she sit, and I'd consider j.B (jumping in general) but she also has amazing anti airs. This seems like a matchup where I can't do anything but react to her, but at the same time I can't figure out my tools to react to her with. :/ Can I get any help here?
  7. for the life of me can't remember my reddit password. and for whatever reason password recovery freaks out every time I use it too >_>
  8. Don't have much information on it, but there was a really good SLabyrs here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m35ZEVYiUg&feature=share&list=UUCfnriDcUslGMUMX4Ctkyjg Haven't finished watching it yet, but at least up to 20 minutes in, the SLab was still going, and still playing impressively.
  9. Not until last Saturday. :P I don't think it occurred to anyone beforehand until my actual brother stopped showing up. I can see comparisons though. Unrelated, Slab vs Teddie has got to be one of the craziest matchups. So many seemingly random things flying around all over the screen. Hard to tell whats going on at times. :P
  10. Hitting myself for not saving the replay, but as it was pretty laggy, I'll accept unintentionally throwing out a 5B as the most probable answer. And regarding the autoguard it seems like i absolutely can't throw it out on Yu lol >_>
  11. is it not instant then? I keep getting counterhit, which i was under the impression was an impossibility because it was a DP...
  12. Can Slab not use her DP on wakeup? keep trying to, and every time i do, its beaten out by a 5A...
  13. <--- this guy. :P and yeah, I'm horrible with names too. Been working on some nifty set ups as we speak, and I'm really excited to start get some of this ridiculousness in real matches. Hopefully I'll have accumulated enough match experience by the next tournament to make slab as scary as she should be. Thanks for stomping me and all that. :D
  14. ? Don't think I'm really a creditable source for arguing the matchup, but Asterius autoguards all of Aigis' specials that consume bullets, as well as 2B and orgia mode's Pandora Missile Launcher, regardless of whether or not he's using a move or holding D. So when she's doing the bullet spray, you just have to watch Labyrs. Knowing this, I've been sitting under Asterius and punishing her approaches, which has worked well so far for me.
  15. Haven't seen too much of her, though I love that a good portion of her zoning is absorbed by Asterius
  16. I was looking at her, but I ended up going for Slab because I've been wanting to try a puppet character. but man, Painwheel style mixup ftw. If it wasn't for the resource management and having to turn off orgia mode, I think I'd be all over that.
  17. Oh yeah? well mine shot from 100% to 33% in player matches so don't feel too bad. Speaking of, dorm internet is apparently poor for P4A too... zzz or maybe I'm just picky...
  18. Needless to say he was promoted for his valiant efforts.
  19. Building meter for the big touch of death anchor tends to be the strat of choice, but I've noticed that even in higher level play, it's not necessarily the only viable option. Several characters get good damage off of drive without HD, such as Takuma, Joe, Kim, or Daimon. Given, people really love to show off the flashy stuff, steady use of drive also yields good returns; mainly because not letting the bar reach max means that you are always going to be building more. I like that the game gives you the freedom of choice in that regard. Deciding what to do with the meter is a big part of teambuilding, and I love how the game tends to reward every form of meter use.
  20. I really don't feel like I'm learning anything playing online matches, but I don't really feel I have much opportunity to practice offline either. I'm trying to get hit-confirms under pressure. Vs the cpu I can do them without any problem (and practicing mixups on them is kinda silly), but against online opponents I feel most of what I try to punch out is dropped merely due to latency issues. Idk, just felt I needed someplace to rant. What do you guys typically look to accomplish when you get online? I feel like going for big combos is somewhat of a waste, but at the same time I keep get stomped by some 2000 win Mr.Karate who can accomplish a full HD combo from any confirm...
  21. Thanks to the people who kicked my teeth in in Kof, It was a great feel getting into the rhythm of the game, and I expect to be a little more competitive next time! After the few rounds I played against people who knew what they were doing, It's become alot easier practicing the simple stuff, and I've collected a few specific tidbits to iron out as well. Also thank you Naimat on the advice on Shen. much appreciated.
  22. Yeeah sry didn't have much to say there :o Hadn't seen much P4A before going there, so kinda felt out of place. Got fairly practiced on Skullgirls but there doesn't seem to be much interest in that lolz. But yeah, I'll be up for KoF if you are still doing that that this coming week. Not sure if I'll have P4A for awhile, fairly low on dough right now. Looks sweet though, must say
  23. Had fun in the Skullgirls sideshow :o would hope to see more of it in the future, starting to become strangely addicted to the game. It's funny though, I'm free in just about all the other fighting games atm. Oh, and future reference Wes is to Mr.Minionman as Cake is to dessert.
  24. I'ma be coming to this MTN, I'll probably just be watching mostly, but I'd like to get in on the Skullgirls :o Still a scrub though, lol...
  25. Hey, fairly new player here, how do you get out of the corner against this guy? I gotten stuck by a few Hakumen's now who stand just out of range of 5B and respond to whatever i do with C moves and drive. I'm probably just being really predictable, but i'm not quite sure of the best method out of it.
