They had an SBO qualifier because of one man: Jiang. I was told that the HK qualifier was not a regular tournament, but the arcade owner challenging teams of 2 from all over China to beat this one guy, and if they could, they'd go to SBO instead of him. He rolled everyone. All I know is that his English name is Stan and he's friends with Stunedge (and he doesn't speak that much English, so I hope you speak Chinese [he speaks Mandarin and Cantonese]!). I had the pleasure of meeting/playing with them while I was in Beijing for the summer. My best advice is to PM stunedge to see if you can get in contact with the guy. He is the HK scene, but trust me - he's an absolute beast and is more than enough of a challenge by himself. Idk about GG, maybe he plays? :P Good luck!

Wait, are you the guy's house we (me, Tim, Marty, maybe Ivysaur or Paul or Xif was there?) went to one time? I am using the context clues of being far away and having a wife to make this guess. If so, welcome (and even an old washed-up scrub like me remembers you)!! That gathering was pretty fun - nice house and big TV, and only a few guys made it very....intimate. Very relaxing. If not, welcome anyway :P IIRC, there should be a number of players who aren't too far from your area. Get your combos down and then set them meetings up. Hopefully the place I got is big enough to host gatherings, I wanna get on this asap =(

I'M FREE THIS WEEK GUYS PLAY WITH ME

You hold C and D while doing the pinwheel (also 6). The bird may help you to start when you're first learning the combo, or it may situationally affect whether your combo continues or not, but for the standard loop it's just j.236C [hold 6 + C + D], then let go of C and D. You'll get used to the timing quickly, it's not hard. You don't add the bird because it may do a little extra damage to start, but it prorates like crazy. I remember I first used it when I was learning the loop, and I never did more than 5k. If/when you want extra damage, the (general!) solutions are: In the corner: 5C x2 - once as the D bug is hitting down, again right before the D bug hits up (should roughly be right after the other) Not in the corner: j.C as the D bug is hitting down and immediately j.214C (this will push them to make sure they are still going to get hit, while grounding you faster to jump and j.236C). Works 80-90% of the time (adjust for spacing, walk them on the first rep if you're not sure if the j.C will keep the combo going) Again these are general ways to do the combos. These are generally simple and do pretty sick damage. There are definitely situations out there in which there are better ideas, or even situations in which those two might not work. But baby steps.

Man you guys didn't give me a unanimous answer! So it seems all you rich folks got a PS3 :P How much do they run these days? I just need the cheap ol' ones, but even at retail $110 for an xbox is pretty sexy. $250 for the cheapest, refurbished PS3 is ridiculous imo though, I'll scour the interwebs and see what I can find. Open to suggestions. Also console version is neat. They FINALLY do something that no fighting game that I've ever seen has ever done. PUT BUTTON MAP SETTINGS ON THE CHARACTER SELECT SCREEN. Ingenious! Mu-12 is weird, nobody really understands her yet, even the guys I play with (and she seems really complicated). I'm curious to see how she evolves as a character.

People probably won't dicth AWA for a more serious tourney, but in all honesty, AWA is a hell of a lot of fun. I've had a blast every year, and I even entered Smash last year even though Reflex, Calvin, and Lambchops were all there, and I knew I couldn't be any of them (got 4th.....haha). I entered BB but I sucked major donkey butt so I got beat by some random. You really should come if the $30 isn't that bad of a barrier, it's a good time all around. You just....you just have to be there. They do end up having to scrap some tournament etiquette due to time constraints (usually only one match instead of bo3, but there is loser's bracket!). They used to be jerks back when I first went to AWA a few years back, but they've become a lot more accomodating, actually listen to the players/community, and have become much more organized. It's fun. Also don't forget many randoms = $$$ for you! Also prizes, a TE ain't so bad, even if you have a stick already. They do gouge the pot, but if you get 1st you don't really feel cheated because you're making way more than usual for beating guys you see at regular tournaments anyway. I'd definitely like at least a training session or two before then though.....updates when I get around it/actually move in to my place. As for me...I won't be back until August 21st, and school starts 2 days later -_-;; Plus I (and Tong) are turning 21 soon (and are both out of ATL until school starts), so we will be quite overdue for party times. But this semester is looking rough, so idk what my profs have in store. Who knows what the future holds for me.....probably video games In other news: Since I have to buy CS to practice at home, and I don't have a 360 or PS3....thoughts? 360 is generally cheaper, and all I really need is a system, 1-2 controllers, and the game. That's the only reason I'm leaning that way right now, but for a few extra bucks, if the PS3 has more fantastic items, maybe it's worth it? DISCUSS

My johns are similar to these, but my hardcore Asia training will hopefully pay off when I return. I'm very glad that underneath the shitstorm I started over on SRK, my goal of people getting the word out about this fantastic game seems to be working. I want as many people into this game as possible! If the place I'm living in in the Fall turns out to be awesome (won't see it until I move in, lol...) I may very well start hosting some gatherings. Or we can keep doing them at Ivysaur's place. Expect greatness (and be ready to drive to Gatech :P)!

Okay, I tested my unable to block while landing theory, and I guess it got a bit more complex, but as I am still noob as far as system mechanics go.... This may be more of a character-specific question, but I play Arakune. When I summon a cloud around one full hop's worth of distance in the air, I (obviously) like to block as soon as possible afterwards. There are many times when I will try to barrier ASAP, and the barrier will actually come out, but then around when I hit the ground I'll get hit by Ragna's 6A or something while continuing to hold barrier. Is this just me thinking I can't block when I hit the ground but actually I'm just barrier cancelling my cloud without having the ability to block? That certainly doesn't sound right to me, but I guess that's why I'm posting here. I am truly, utterly confused.

I'm definitely interested in some AWA - I've been there pretty consistently the past few years. Plus I only got about a month to train up with you guys before then, since I get back like right before school starts. So.....HYPE

I've looked all around the different system mechanics threads, and couldn't find an answer, so here is my nooby question: Are there frames where you cannot block upon jumping and landing? And are those frames affected by if you're barrier blocking or not? I barrier block in the air a lot, and as I land, I get hit by rushdown tactics (NOT getting mixed up), and so I feel there must be some frames when landing (and jumping) where you cannot block. I know you can't barrier within some X frames of jumping, but I'm talking about blocking at all.

Everyone (except dat man Ivysaur, of course) is taking a nap until CS officially comes out. HYPE THIS MESS UP I haven't been to USGA yet (and won't until I get back to ATL), but I hear it's snazzy and I can go there for both BB and SC2 tournaments! I'm actually super hype about getting into the BBCS scene (as many of you may know, I was kind of on the fence with CT and Smash and whatever), I wanna get national level at this game and I think with my crazy training here, I just may come back a little less rusty I ain't joking about SBO 2011 Ivysaur, we gonna hit that mess up - I'll be making sure you stop getting first place (unless you're teaming with me :D)!
