I'm not dead, but all that free time I had recently is. I knew I shouldn't have put off Izuna that long. Oh well. Guess I'll play as Izuna a bit more so I have a clue how his tribe works when I can get back to the wiki.
-
I'll be kicking myself for a long time about forgetting to bring my copy of Overture to NorCal Install, when I normally bring it to the cybercafe every Saturday anyway.
-
Finally got around to getting the next wiki section done. Now I just need to do Izuna's... which will be one of the longest, and is the one I have the least experience with. Damn.
-
I appear to have made converts to Overture at this week's fighting game event in Berkeley. I'll keep bringing my copy along and see if I can keep this trend going.

Thanks for the encouragement on the wiki, it's a wretched pain in the ass to work on. If anyone thinks there's something I missed, add it! It's a wiki! ...Huh. Close enough for lag-less play. Almost unbelievable. Sadly, don't expect my net troubles to be over any time soon. JJJJJJ2 says he'll have a working 360 before too much longer, and he lives 10 blocks from me, so at least he'll be back before long.

Well, the third big entry is done. I really wish I had internet at home, so I could look over the game as I'm doing this. I can't remember half the servant skills' names.
-
Yeah, I know, but I can only get the info I'm using by running the JP wiki through Google Translate. When the translation comes out shaky enough that I'm not sure what it's saying, I figure it's better to just leave that part out, instead of guessing and maybe being flat-out wrong. But if I do screw something up, it's easy for anyone to make a correction. Aria: Hey, the GG Wikia site now has a section on Sol's servants! Knowing the specifics on servants will help out a lot. Also, the first bit of advice I always give to new players: don't spend too much time fighting personally when you've got an entire battlefield to keep track of. Your Master should be doing something to influence the battle all the time you aren't actually on the Organ screen, even if it's just carrying units around.
-
Well, I've gotten started on that stupidly large project I mentioned. Decent start, I hope, as I'm basically just transferring things straight from the JP wiki. It's going to take freaking forever, but at least players who don't know Japanese will have some source of info besides this thread.

New player! Someone who's actually qualified to, tell them how to play! Anyway, one thing I can tell you in general is that you should not get caught up fighting with your Master for too long, or you'll lose track of what's going on in the rest of the battlefield. The times when you finish a long fight and then notice you have no units left on the board never stop being depressing. However, you should also try never to have your Master standing around useless for more than a few seconds, either. Your own character is the most powerful thing in the game, and you need to influence the battle as much as possible, even if it's just ferrying your troops around yourself. What is it you have to do on Mission 8? I have good strategies for them all, but I need a reminder of which one that is. Oh, this reminds me, I still can't find the Chimakis in Underworld Hill, or Level 16 (the one where you use Sin alongside Ky)

Thanks for the link. Looking over some of the servant guides, I was highly entertained by finding out that Japanese players refer to carrying units in your item slots "Pokemoning."
-
Oh yeah, could someone give me the link to the JP wiki? I just realized I've never once looked for it... doh.
-
Damn. I was hoping to have some help with this. Having this thread be the only good place to find out info about the game in English is not a good thing for the game at all. Well, at least now we have a place where information about the game logically should go. Now I'm going to have to learn how to format Wikia pages. Oy.
-
We will thank you for getting any of the JP wiki translated. Also, you made me think of searching for something, and as it turns out: http://guilty-gear.wikia.com/wiki/Guilty_Gear_2:_Overture It already exists, we just need to add useful info to it. I can't believe I never thought to check before.

Well, he's the best player I've been in a match with. Considering he quit out of any match that started going against him, it's good to know that my conclusion of "screw that guy" seems like the right one. If only I'd been able to play back in the good old days. But hey, I've got a possibility of getting internet at home in the next few months.

Well, it's likely no one noticed that JJJ2 was back online this weekend. That's because I hauled my (working, unlike his) 360 over to his place so we could play whatever. I finally managed to get it working right, and now have version 1.46 and Underworld Hill 2, like I should, but I didn't have the MS points to get Raven for my own account... damn. There was also a moment we didn't believe. When I went online to get the update, there was a 2 on 2 match waiting for a fourth player. So I finally got my first online matches in. I was horribly unlucky in the first round, with both of the really good players being on the other team. There was one Valentine player, Isiko3 or something like that, who took over 70% of the map by himself by the end of round 1. Bastard left me with no ghosts controlled in rounds 1 and 2, and my teammate died in no time. Then the next game, Isiko3 was on my team. I did way better than I ever thought I would in my second online game ever, managing to take down the Sol player a few times (Exciter+Heaven's Libra=hax) and held out until round 4, when the Izuna player got Daidarabotchi to my masterghost. JJJ and I switched up who was playing over a few more matches, but the next three games ended with Isiko3 forfeiting in the first round, so we gave up. Then I watched the replay of that badass second match I had, so I could try and copy Isiko's amazing Valentine skills... and saw that he had been idle the whole game and never moved or summoned a single unit. So, if you see Isiko3 on? Screw that guy.

Haven't played much lately, thanks to the Raven frustration and the huge pile of used games I was recently given, but the vids I've been watching have made me wonder: How do you do that charging slash that Ky uses to hit enemies when they're down?
-
Pretty impressive match... though it gets on my nerves that as long as I've played Ky, I've never figured out some of the basic stuff that was being used in that match. And on another note of "WTF is with my copy of the game," the mana costs for a lot of the units were different than on mine. Gauntlet Bodies cost 450 in my game, not 420.
-
For these servant tests, maybe you should use equal values of units instead of equal numbers of units. After all, the cost difference between Sin's and Dr P's units is so big there's rarely going to be the same number of them out there. Maybe try 900 points of units vs 900 points on the other side.
-
I've mentioned my problem of not getting to use Raven, even though he's definitely downloaded on my system. Well, I thought of a possibility for why he's not showing up, which I hope someone can test for me: Does he still appear on the character select while you're not connected to Live?
-
Your only options with Ky for that level are Stun Dipper, since the second hit does cover a fair area, and Holy Brand when getting flanked. I spent the whole time desperately wishing I could Charged Stun Edge. So, does anyone know where to find those last two Chimakis I need?
-
I never thought of that tactic until I saw it used in that amazing Sol/Ky match you linked a few days ago. I immediately ripped it off.
