  1. Last Sat of Oct is Rachel's birthday. I fear the turnout will be low, competing with candy-hording.
  2. OK, this crossed my mind in the middle of a 3S-style across-full-screen poke waitfest... Carl's taunt is subtle and quick. That short taunt time made be really think about this: has anyone tested the potential for T~8D for an empty clap?
  3. I need someone to clear this up for me... There seems to be a bit of a split personality thing involved with the NDK VGR/tournament... On the whole, the NDK VGR left me with a sour taste. I see C3's name attached to the NDK VGR -- or at least tournaments -- so right now there's a bit of stain on C3's name in my mind atm. My issue comes down to this: Is the NDK VGR/tournament reflective of C3's usual modus operandi? If not, why/how was the NDK VGR not reflective of C3? If so, why should I go to a(nother) C3 tourney?
  4. err... yeah... cabinet... dangit...
  5. So... how do I go about changing the thread title?...
  6. What/when are future BB thingies in CO?
  7. I've been to anime cons where the tournaments weren't handled so badly, so "being an anime convention" doesn't fly with me. Anime Expo 2009 (CA) tournament was handled in a way I did not expect, but it did go smoothly and in a proper bracket. Fanime 2009 (CA) BB tournament was run by someone who, while he may stumble a bit in the details, puts lots of heart into doing it properly. Arguably the NDK tourney was run smoothly, in the sense that driving a steamroller on the highway runs a smooth rush-hour commute. Nor do I accept the "free" excuse. I paid for con registration, part of that money went into the game room and their tournaments. The entry fee was buried in there somewhere, as far as I care -- even badge was required to get in. So it's not "free" in even the loosest sense. But, yeah, I'll admit my reaction was at an intensity far past what is considered normal. That's how I am. I'm passionate about a few things, but of those things, I have very strong feelings -- what I lack in quantity is made up for in quality. I don't think that's a justification at all, but it is an exposure of a latent facet of my personality. IOW, it can happen again. A tournament is where I expect to perform at my best. At NDK... on a pad... no, sorry, but I can't even do a piss-poor demonstration on pad. The only reason why I was able to actually do anything on the XB360 pad is because it's so big I could use it as a tiny unanchored stick. I don't feel it's anything to be proud about... it felt like racing a training-wheel BMX bike in a He-man tricycle race billed as a motocross. But most of all was how they were unable to keep their communications straight. I already went on very long rants about West Coast Warzone 2009 (CA), partly about how what they were saying before the tournament and what actually transpired were at such polar opposites as to border on disgrace. I rate NDK tourney far worse, as not only were there failures in communication, there were great wins in miscommunications :pissed: Don't get me wrong. The NDK VGR screwups didn't mar my entire time there, despite the inordinate amount of bits and air I'm expending on it. Taken as whole, NDK was on the enjoyable side -- meeting new people, getting some decent comp, planning our conquest of Colorado... I mean... uh... enjoying some good games. The Saturday casuals were the highlight of my time there. THAT was some pretty good times (although I don't know where you kept running off to). But reminiscing in that is best shared with others who were there, which is why I'm trying to get NDK attendees to post up and share. I don't want to engage in lengthy unilateral monologues about the highlights of Saturday. Most of my concentration was on exposing BB to people interested in learning the game for real, so my memories of actual interactions at the casual rig has to be jogged by others. So, post up, dangit :P Hard to tell. Upcoming tournaments near my home town are 9/26, 10/10, 10/31. Any visit to Colorado, I would like to have overlap with a tournament, but not required. I'm open to suggestions for timing another visit. At earliest, October; November might be more doable, depending on what crops up locally. I'm looking forward to meeting up with you guys again.
  8. Alrighty. So at NDK, I tried to steer some BlazBlue people over to dustloop, to this thread in particular. Best of the time there was Saturday with BB in the halls, going by accepted Casuals rules. Although I'm beginning to think we should have gone with a loser-stays policy to give newcomers a chance to brush up. It's a shame the rig was a fail on Sunday. Transport infrastructure fell apart I'd like the NDK BlazBlue people to post up in this thread, follow up on the experience at NDK and get some discussion going on what went right, what went wrong, mostly about the unofficial rig. And also any talks of coordinating future BlazBlue sessions, face-to-face or online.
  9. You can throw Carl out of the that super. During the super flash. No mind-reading required. After the throw finishes, you can block (unlike burst, where you... can't). Damn super needs more invincibility.
  10. NDK game room not open until 6pm. lol. Initiate BlazBlue Plan B.
  11. Who were the CO ppl that showed up at evo2009 and visited the SoCal GG/BB room on the final day?
  12. Was posting your phone number publicly a wise choice (instead of via PM)? One of my plans for NDK is to hang around the game room and introduce ppl to BlazBlue, teach them the ropes. The game ain't for everybody, so I'm expecting something like 1 new devotee per maybe 16 ppl I reach.
  13. OK, I'll admit, my post was a little ambiguous... "Sunday night" would be the "driving me around" (gonna stay near con until it ends). "Cramming into my hotel room" would be Fri (nothing interesting happens), Sat (con winds down 10p), or Sun (con finished).
  14. California :CA:/:JI: player here. I plan on being in the Denver area this coming weekend for Nan Desu Kan con (at the Denver Tech Center/near Centennial Airport). As my interest is going to be focused primarily on the gaming room (BB), which also tends to be given the least regards at any anime con, I want to defray the possibility of a Bad Weekend by meeting up local BB players. My return flight is scheduled for Monday evening, and I'll be car-less, so any meet-up will entail driving me around or cramming into my hotel room Sun night. I plan on bringing my stick (multi-modded), but I have no idea how airport security will react to it, there's a remote chance I'll be stickless and need to borrow one. In any case, any Denver locals willing to welcome a California BB head?
  15. next ranbat Sat 9/26.
  16. Another trick I've been using recently is Vivace through the cannon-launched rod setups. Nirvana takes the lead (61234D), the cannon ball hitting Nirvana causes hitstun on both ball and Nirvana, giving Carl time to maneuver and finally use Vivace to dodge through the cannon ball. It may take some practice to get used to the stop-motion characteristic of the ball in this situation. 236B tends to work better... more speed to get out of the way. But you need to take care of down-towards wind during Vivace, which can smack the ball into you... but then it has to get through Nirvana first. So... yeah...
  17. For distance, I use 956, carried over from Guilty Gear. For proximity, I use 7 656. The backward jump provides more distance and time for the j.2C to land closer [to launch point]. I think the effective distance is approximately 1.5 Carl widths. In any case, as the 3C hits, I tap 7, then start the 66 before even seeing him take air. It's not like 3C is dash-cancelable, so done right, the buffered 7 takes precedence and the 66 registers for the air dash just as Carl really takes to the air.
  18. lol. Two features combined for this glitch. Here I suspected a pure throw-break glitch and tried just that, not suspecting the super flash would play a role. Makes sense in retrospect.
  19. The above combo involves a teleport, so I'm not sure where "forward all the time" applies. However, the effect of "not moving backwards" (which seems to be the underlying case here) can be attained by executing the air dash and the 214C before Nirvana recovers from the teleport. After doing the 214C, the command is already registered and committed even if you don't see it start, so you can start holding [3D] (becomes [1D] after you land and change direction), causing Nirvana to walk forward right out of teleport recovery, then (what is now) [1]C for the launch while having Nirvana approach at the same time. In short, you time inputs so the backward directions occur during Nirvana's recovery animation, and you only need the backward for a frame. Done correctly, Nirvana does not have a chance to respond to a backwards (for her) direction. Furthermore, once Nirvana is past the activation startup frames, her movement is quite spritely, so it could be you don't really notice she stepped backwards for a couple frames because her forward speed is already overwhelmingly frightening (i.e. optical illusion).
  20. Videos are up: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=327C08E66F52B5C1 Yes, unusually early. w/e. Cabinet. Set to free-play (Event Mode). EDIT: meant arcade cabinet. Dunno why I typed "console" earlier...
  21. Officially, fourth place gets no points. However, as seeding is based on cumulative ranking points, and turnout tends to be rather low, I'm keeping track of fourth place points on the non-real axis just so the fourth seed isn't arbitrary/random. No points for you. You didn't even enter.
  22. Results posted in first post. Videos to be uploaded... eventually...
  23. It remains Sat 29. TS & SOL. I didn't even want an Aug ranbat, so I'm being a hard-ass about this.

  25. Vivace (236 A/B) goes through all her sword drives. Either version works, but I tend to use B more, for its head-invincible property (especially useful against 5D). Any D whiff on ν's part puts her in long recovery, but faster than B-Vivace recovery . That said, ν-13 tends to go into runaway mode at this distance. Another trick is air dash and early/whiff j.2C (try for just outside ν's 2C range). A ν trying to AA drive tends to whiff (but recovery on j.2C is pretty long as well). Again, this distance tends to be another ν-runaway flowchart point. OTOH, getting hit by air drive will hurt badly. If you can manage to instant guard the reverse wheel, you can B-Vivace to follow after it. The B-Vivace moves at pretty much the same speed as the wheel. Only really useful for that one-time "wtf" moment ("Carl is inside the wheel?! What do I attack?!").
