He is, as of right now, the #1 ranked Makoto in the world, even if it's by Goro losing a few matches. Consistency isn't his strong point but he is a decent player.

Returning to neutral is the last thing you want to with this character. Rushdown characters rely on momentum to win, even more so with Makoto because of her lack of range. You just want to hit them 3-5 times and go to the next round ASAP. Sure you need to respect their wake-up options but you have to make them feel like it's necessary to use a reversal in the first place. Backing off on wake-up makes it much less likely that your opponent will hang themselves with a poorly-positioned reversal.

At this particular moment in time, Goro is ranked 6th overall in standings.
