SMP has no "use" It's just something there that limits your combo. Sometimes it's okay for that limiter to go off because you'll get more damage/resources/advantage(read optimization) off that route anyways. When Izayoi triggers SMP she's not "using" SMP, she's just doing it because that's what she's gotta do for optimal stock gain in combos (as far as I know, SKD can correct me if I'm wrong). It's pretty simple I think, no need to over-complicate it.
-
And tbh, SKD basically explained the simpler offensive ideas in his earlier explanations, so I'd suggest you read over those.
-
I'm going to make the assumption SKD isn't specifically talking about "BB offensive meta", he's just talking about the general idea of selecting offensive options vs the defensive options your opponent is choosing across fighting games.
-
I'm fine with questions and whatever being here. This is the kind of talk I would think people here most need to see anyways.

PS3 super slim. I've seen it on a few different versions though, it's just PS3s in general. Sometimes it's not too bad, sometimes you get Bedman's stage and you can actually just watch the slowdown whenever particle effects kick in. Kind of a shame.
-
Considering that the PS3 version will lag offline, just use Elph and Arena stages. If you pick Chipp, pick Falls because the water hides his shadow. Stages are cool but some of them basically kill the game :|

Btw I know about the guild sites and check them almost daily in P4U2 because there might be some change or value to pull from it(plus I just like JP play a lot). You only gain/lose dan by playing the game as far as I know, so you could just get 19 and and decide to make a new card for giggles. Edit: The way Dan works is you gain/lose dan by playing players of the same or similar dan levels. High dan players will actually sometime play "first to rank down" matches, where they just have the same dan and play back to back until somebody ranks down. Sometimes they do this to rank up too. Sometimes they boost. I wanna say Fenrich had people help him boost to get to 20, because they just wanted to see if you could and how long it would take. Tiers change often enough during the first few months to a year of a game's life. After that they usually stabilize with some slight moving up and down as things are optimized and MUs get figured out. I'm mostly quoting you to add to this and say there's a bit more time and wiggle room involved usually.

What. A lot of the tier lists I at least see and take into consideration are from top players who I'd trust and at varying points in time. Consensus? There are reasons that doesn't happen. Bias, experience, region, skill level, knowledge, etc. All come into play. And the smart people take that into consideration. Oh, this player is from a region that has the best [x character] that isn't played often. They value them slightly higher. Maybe that player is doing things others aren't, or that player just left an impact on them. Maybe this character is ranked low because they have no experience against that character. Maybe this person understands a set of MUs vs this character better. Maybe this tier list is based on their experience maiming this character. So yeah, there are a lot of factors that go into it. You know what you do with that? You try to understand that information from their perspective and interpret it the best you can. You also cross that information with the information from other players and lists and find out what lines up. again, we all see Jin listed top 3-5 in every list. Easy, that char is probably just top tier. In other cases we gotta fill in some blanks. Nu isn't top 3 anymore. Weird. Oh look, chars that traditionally have strong MUs vs her have passed her up on some lists. Since tiers are MU based, that probably has a lot to do with it. Woah, that char is high on this person's list. Let's see where they're from and check rankings. Oh, there are two 18 dan players of that character there, something must be up with that. Tiers aren't an exact science and the fact they're made by people in varying places at varying times makes things like this happen. You take all the information in and interpret until you get a good idea of what the game state looks like and make your conclusions from that. If we're going to talk about tiers and character strength, we might as well do it in a smart way. Throwing out all the insight those players give us is not smart and just lowers our understanding.

Okay time to steer it back more to BB :P

Again, I really wanna stress this OS isn't an answer to mix up. You don't use it to block high/low primarily, although that can happen in situations where you understand some gatling options, but again variables so not really. Chars with mix up game that is just high/low you into oblivion like Valk and Relius really do not care if you're attempting to do this, you're still just guessing blocks or escape attempts. Another quick point is there's a small variable window where you have to stand up to input the OS, so staggered lows get thrown out to check/catch it sometimes. The way the OS plays out in practice is super simple actually though. When offense starts, a player will usually structure their offense in a way to tell if this particular defensive option is being used. If they see it, they can adjust their offense to deal with it. If the defender notices that though, they can vary their other defensive options to deal with that particular offense and the guessing game just starts up again. It's a really strong option, which should be learned and used, but you can still deal with it as another defensive layer. It's really funny when players layer in other options besides jump too, then the game starts becoming about a huge set of options and interesting interactions happen. Go look at P4U lol The problem comes when the player on the offensive /doesn't know or understand/ this option, and they can't get openings because they don't know how to beat it. Edit: The correct input is actually 1 > 7A+B+C > 1.
-
This is slightly off topic but I wanna point out Q isn't actually /that/ bad. The tier you're thinking of is Twelve tier. Also Terumi sucks.
-
I just wanna point out TRM works to beat this. You input 1 > 7A+B+C > 1 with timings so that if the opponent were to grab you, your throw input will happen while you're in the state to tech throw, so you tech. If your opponent puts/keeps you in blockstun instead, you just get what looks like barrier tech and they can TRM you. This totally works on wake up the exact same way it would work in a blockstring btw, the aggressor just has more options to deal with it really. You still have to react and block mix up and stuff, the OS is just an option that lets you cover a good set of bases to get out of not tight offense or deal with a grab game. You input it in gaps where you'd want to input barrier tech or something, you just add the 171 to cover other possibilities. While I'm here, I might as well add the concept of "fuzzy OS" is a common thing across a lot of different fighting games. All you're really doing is putting another set of inputs behind presumed blockstun, where if the blockstun doesn't happen you get a different set of results. For example SF4 players actually use fuzzy jump with tech+HP/HK to deal with Rufus divekicking you into the next dimension. Momochi recently put out a video showing how to do fuzzy DP in SF4 as well (which is a thing I wanna say is possible in BBCP's engine but really not useable), and fuzzy backdash is a thing too. It's a concept worth getting used to and figuring out where it can be applied.

Yeah, you can get one or two stupid good players to put a dent in things. Guys like Goro also just give you good data by themselves. He had 18 dan before because he was insane, but his results tapered off and at some point he was looking at dropping the character for Kokonoe. Now he's back to being seen playing more with a high win rate and placing in large tournaments with Makoto. It's just one player, sure, but you can get a lot of "where can this char go competitively" type stuff out of following stuff over time like that. This is also assuming you're looking for things that matter at a super high level of play. A strong player can make stuff happen with a bad/unviable character, even win weaker tournaments(shout outs to the USA). When we say unviable, we mean no matter how good you are, the chances of you winning a tournament at the highest known level are more or less nonexistent. Even then, that's assuming consistency over time and blah blah blah. I generally don't like to call a char not viable unless they're extremely bad on top of having consistent showings where the char actually can't win like that. That's actually pretty rare and extreme too. On the opposite end of things you just study and see what strengths are letting chars win and why, and start to look at placings and value. Sometimes shit is simple, like Jin is probably S tier because of what he does + combined, consistent results from multiple players. Sometimes not so much, we've already seen weird stuff with Nu moving some, Izayoi flucuating, etc.
-
You can't really make a list based entirely off dan btw. You can use rankings to inform your decision a tiny bit though. Considering top 3 usually looks like Jin, Valk, and Hazama in whatever order, and chars like Tao and Izayoi are A tier, it's worth considering other things. Izayoi is just a hard character and wasn't popular before, and there are no god Tao players right now pushing her rank up, etc. You guys sure talk about tier lists a lot.

Shit's 1.1, plan accordingly.

The really popular idea was an icon of the little dragon thing that follows Linne around. It's p. cute. Do what you want though.

Hi, yes, those are great. If other admins approve we can add things, so please be patient and understand we have to consider a couple things before throwing stuff up ^_^ As a side note, I'm always open to community contributions to icons and stuff for the site.

This ^ it's a starting point, and if there aren't player lobbies happening it's a place to go for now. The JP do this as well, and LK has put forward the idea before. Worst case scenario is the RPers start to wander in and we just outnumber them enough or we move elsewhere.

I'm going to go ahead and make an executive decision on something IF YOU'RE WANTING TO PLAY NETPLAY MATCHES WITH SERIOUS PLAYERS TO IMPROVE, USE TARTARUS ROOM 10

So Evo 2015 is coming up, P4U2 is a main game, and Japan is sending a hit squad our way. I would be lying if I said I didn't think we are unprepared and should be worried. BUT, we have time to work on things best we can to help all of us improve. This isn't to say we are bad, but it is to say we can be preparing better for our chance to shine in the world's largest fighting game tournament. With community effort and hard work, we can put together a community of strong players and work to win this thing. And more importantly, we can foster a community with better resources and competition for us all to continue playing and getting the most out of the game. I'm just going to put down a few things I think we should work on here, but please feel free to offer practical things in this thread as well. 1. IMPROVE OUR RESOURCES Currently, the resources at our disposal to study the game are lacking. The wiki he is incomplete or inaccurate in areas, and that needs to be improved on. Bananaken has put together a thread on this, go look at it and help out if you can. It's important for players of all levels to be able to easily and quickly find this information. It makes everybody's lives easier when studying the game and training moding, and it can help save time of testing things that we already have out there. On top of the wiki, the character boards need some work. If you have information to put there, go put it there. Don't put it on your twitter, don't stash it in a secret evernote, go put it somewhere we it can be found easily. It benefits us all to have more understanding and knowledge of what's going on in the game. If you come across a Japanese evernote or source of information, post it as well, share it, get it out there. There are enough people here who can read Japanese to help us get through it. The big take away here is to put stuff up so others can quickly gain knowledge and start building a better understanding across the board. We have a whole forum and wiki here dedicated to organizing info. We should be using it. 2. PLAY EACH OTHER TO IMPROVE Unfortunately, a lot of us are spread out across the country and can't play together offline. Fortunately, online is a good tool to still practice and learn about characters and situations. We should be taking advantage of that to get practice and start learning about MUs, especially ones for players we know are coming. This would mean when we play online, we need to be somewhat organized in how we do it. It also means we need to put egos aside and play each other to improve and critically think, not to just beat each other. Right now most players just gather in Junes and play what they can. Unfortunately, that means a lot of players are spending play time against non-competitive players or not playing to improve. An easy solution for this is to designate a lobby where we can tell players to go who want to work on this. A better solution is to organize player match lobbies, since those can be more directed and offer the ability to spectate. We can talk in this thread about selecting a lobby and organizing player match rooms. The big thign here is to spend our play time more productively, and to work with each other to improve and lift each other. No put downs, not playing simply to win, playing to improve ourselves and others around us. 3. ORGANIZE ORGANIZE ORGANIZE At this point, the theme should be pretty constant. Organize our shit. Use the forum. Use social media to keep each other more accessible. Also, it helps to be able to have visibility be high. I know basically everybody here has multiple alt accounts they play on in lobbies. We should probably stop doing that so we know who we need to be fighting for what MUs and XP. It also makes finding matches and recording them way more difficult than it should be. There's probably like 5 different skype groups of different players. Why? If you want to win and be better, we should organize social media in a way where we have places to when it's time to talk seriously about the game. I'm not saying ditch your friends, stop goofing off in whatever place you do, but we should have a place for serious time where can come together and productively get stuff done. No divides, none of that. We all need to be together somewhere. SUPPORT EACH OTHER IN EVENTS Everyone wants to win an event. That's cool, I do too. However, we shouldn't do that to the detriment of other players. We should work on getting more people at events, and also helping each other be able to perform in that environment. Play to win, don't play to put down somebody else. Make that experience as best as possible for everybody. Also, for people who it is feasible to help get people around, do it. It costs a lot of money to go to events. Let's start organizing hotel rooms. Let's start organizing regional car pools. For people in regions, do what you can to make it easier to get people there. It isn't feasible or realistic to get everybody everywhere. We have school, jobs, life etc. It's also a lot of money. But doing things together is always way cheaper and can be made easy, so let's work on that. These are just the first ideas. I do not have the solution for everything. If you have more to add or want to do, I can add it to the OP. Post in here, use this thread and htis forum, make it happen. This is an open discussion for all of us to put aside anything else and just work on being the best community we can possibly be.

This isn't directly against the rules, but it violates an unwritten one of "don't compare games because it leads to arguments about nothing." Sorry Edit: Also if a topic is bad or you guys think something is silly, don't call other users names or be mean. Hit the report button or PM me please.
