Why f.S xx item when you could do 5P 2D item to get breathing room, or 5P/2P 2H Rerere to drive him away? 5P 2H Rerere has only 3f gaps between the attacks and pushes them back a ton.

Damn. Someone asks who to sub and no actual answers? Let's reword the question: Which characters are effective in covering Axl's bad matchups?
-
It's a concept where a single series of inputs can have multiple different outcomes depending on what the opponent does. Typically they're inputs that are planned to cover two different courses of action the opponent can take. One-button throws are a classic option select: If you're close enough, you get a throw, if you're too far, you get a normal move. A SF4 classic is jumping in on an opponent that's rising from a knockdown. Say, with heavy kick. But you press the heavy kick twice with proper timing, so what happens: 1. Opponent rises up and gets hit or blocks: Jumping heavy kick connects, the game pauses action for hitstop => You press the second heavy kick while airborne. Pressing heavy kick while doing a jumping heavy kick does nothing. 2. Opponent rises and immediately backdashes. Backdashes have some invincibility (ie. your opponent's hurtbox just doesn't exist for a while) => The jumping kick doesn't connect. You land sooner => You're actually grounded and able to act when you press the heavy kick a second time => You sweep the opponent out of the ending of his backdash. OSes are typically planned for specific situations, and a single situation can have different OSes to catch the opponent doing different things. The point is to be able to make a single decision beforehand instead of reacting to the situation (which can be too fast for a human to react to)

You need lots of rushdown to play anyone in this game in the end. Elphelt's button set is pretty space control oriented and the strawberry grenade is a strong space control tool as well. I second recommendations for Faust and Ky as well, and though Venom isn't simple, he's a space control into unrelenting pressure kind of character. Zato too, but again pretty far from simple. I think Elphelt, Ky and Faust are the ones to go to first. In the end, though, you have to take into account the spirit of the game. And this game is aggressive. A good way to think of GG (and incidentally KOF13) characters in SF4 terms is (AE) Akuma, IMO. He has the tools to zone people pretty well to really really well depending on matchup, but the payoffs aren't there. Compare to Ryu whose space control is a tad worse but who is more durable and zones with 70 point fireballs and heavy buttons (70-100 damage a pop) instead of Akuma's 60 damage ground fireballs and 40 point air fireballs and light air moves. Of the two characters, Ryu is the one that is better equipped to win with damage from just zoning. Akuma has to use his tools to force the opponent into an uncomfortable position so as to create an opening, and then capitalize on that opening by landing a sweep or going in - his combo damage on standing foes is high and the vortex was scary, so that's the payoff taken care of. KOF and GG characters all want to get in and maul people, pretty much. But how they get in and maul people differs. Some characters dart around, spot and opportunity and get in your face (Millia for example). Some have high-priority buttons and just bull rush through the opponent's feeble attempt at defense (Sol, Elphelt). These then either make you guess high/low/throw until you guess wrong (Millia, I-No, Leo), or hammer at you, hoping you panic and press a button (=counterhit into a combo), but if not, they just punch you again and again and - oh, sorry, that was a command grab, I guess you lose now (Sol, Zato, Elphelt). Some try to force a mistake out of you and get in or do a combo/mixup/corner carry as punishment (Faust, Ky, Axl, Zato, Elphelt, Venom). So you will want to get in somehow. How do you want to get in, and do you like high/low or stagger based pressure more?

Elphelt shotgun jab is 3f too.

This is a good concept. I prefer mobile characters with good move balance and generally lots of tools. If they're just a smidge overpowered, so much the better.
-
You know, there's this thing called preference. Where to someone the character being big and burly or having some other aesthetic is really important. For me, those important things are power, mobility and tools. => I end up playing top tier just about always.
-
AFAIK there's a Zato-specific air combo for setting up the unblockable that isn't balls hard like the standard one. So you'll have to eat your own medicine too.
-
Call the combo fragments "patterns" or something. And don't organize combos so you have metered and meterless options mixed in. It's hell to parse (for me at least). Much prefer organisation like: Meterless: Low Anywhere Corner 25% tension, Eddie: Low Jump-in Corner etc.

Yup, all it does. No combat effects at all, it's 100% dedicated to comedy.

Basic theory is: You have godlike pokes. He has good pokes. Your pokes are longer. It's just a game of fundamentals where you have the edge. You can crouch (NOT crouch block) under grounded fireballs. 5P/2P have a surprising amount of range. This is just theorycrafting, but 2HS feels like it should be pretty rad v. Ky's pokes. Try to mix up poke=>item and poke=>rerere a bit so throwing items is safer.

#R Eddie and Xrd Zato are more or less the same character. I think what the difficulty thing is about is confusing difficult in the absolute sense with something being merely foreign. For example it took me ages to master Iori's 2K 5K 6P 214P 214P 214P BnB. It's not actually difficult, but it was something I wasn't used to at all. Compare to pulling off reversals with the tight window this game has, which is actually hard in an absolute sense and not something you can just get used to. Zato is much the same. Once you grok him and grind stuff into muscle memory, he ceases to be super hard in the absolute sense. But for someone just getting to it, there's a crapton of work to be done in familiarizing yourself with him both muscle memory and just plain thinking wise.

"Elphelt might be the best character in game. He has more UB setups than Zato. Ogawa just put her in the list at A because he thinks Zato Millia and Ram are better." This sentence makes no sense.
-
Japan, y u use potatoes to stream ;_;
-
It's funny how Ogawa consistently rates I-No higher than other people do. Can't help but have your character-specific perspective, I guess. Odd that Efute and Woshige would rate Zato that low even if the character is mostly Ogawa.
