Uh, you mean Myung isn't helping with any of this? Not to point fingers, but it is kind of his arcade. You'd think he'd help promote an event there as much as he could.

Scott's post pretty much sums it all up. GG can be ran as a side tournament pretty easily, since it doesn't take much time to run brackets unless people are off playing other games. Make NCI one day like it's usually been, and then have a dedicated Gundam tournament on Sunday (isn't that what GC did during the NEXT days, anyway?). And Chun, there were more than a few people (myself included) telling you the schedule was a bad idea. It really didn't make sense to drag out SC and KOF for two days (though I guess SC finished on Saturday?), among other things. In general, your communication with the community needs to improve. Whatever you post on Facebook, you should post here as well. Not only do most people check this thread more than their FB, but I'm sure there's also at least some people that aren't regulars yet and don't know many people here, but would like to attend NCI anyways. If they aren't friends with you on FB or don't follow NCI on FB, how are they supposed to know what's going on? You didn't even paste the event info in the first post. Not to sound like part of the leech gang, but come on. However, that's not to say that the community itself isn't a large part of the problem. Why WC thinks it's appropriate to have long ass dinner breaks and then run off to karaoke and then play mahjong in the middle of a tournament is beyond me. If you guys pulled this kind of shit at EVO, you know the kind of repercussions it'd have. Showing up on Norcal Standard Time is an issue of its own, but once you're at the venue you shouldn't all run off once Top 8 is frozen. Either TO's need to start being dicks and DQ'ing people or ya'll need to manage your time better. My advice to you Chun, as someone that ran tournaments at one point in time, is to start everything as early as you can. Start signups early and make it clear when they end. Get the brackets made immediately after signups are over, then make sure the setups are in place before you start running. Those were my three rules of thumb when I ran GG tournaments back in the day. As simple as they sound, they can prevent a lot of headache. Where you dropped the ball was with signups, which makes the other two a lot harder to fulfill.

Then, if you don't mind me asking, what are they? Someone has to be making these lists, and if the people behind them aren't top players (nevermind the lists put out by Koichi, Ogawa, etc., which are clearly their opinions and are not representative of the opinions of others), then I don't see how they're valid at all. This I agree with. It's been two years since the last published tier list; either everyone agrees with it, or nobody does. Based on that and what you've been saying through this entire thread, I'll bet the latter. I guess I should clarify that my point here is that the latest tier list reeks of laziness. It may very well be impossible to accurately rank each and every character, but if you're going to try, at least put in a better effort than what we have right now. We don't need a tier list to tell us that everyone's good, because anyone that plays the game with a modicum of seriousness knows that. But, it would be nice if we could get opinions from the best players as to who might edge out over much of the cast. At least as far as Guilty Gear is concerned, that's the function a tier list should serve.

Generally speaking, I agree. I just don't think there's much justification in saying that everyone's C tier, either. There are some characters that are obviously stronger than most of the cast and characters that are obviously weaker (Fun fact: Eddie and Johnny are the only characters to have never moved from their respective positions on the tier list). I guess I should keep in mind that such things aren't always necessarily obvious at first (see: C tier Millia, lol). But in the case of Zappa and Venom, I fail to see how you can say they're about as good as most of the cast when they have tools that clearly put them a notch or two above the rest. And it's not like we haven't seen both of these characters wreck house in numerous tournaments, either.

This is what it all comes down to. The way he uses coins may be "sub-optimal", but he can still scare people with them because they don't want to get hit by the coin, nor do they want to get hit by anything else he might throw out. Doubly so if he has meter. When I said you shouldn't try to look like DC, I meant that you shouldn't try to copy his style without knowing how or why it works. However, there are some things you can copy if you so wish to; I just recommend you figure out quickly whether or not they'll work for you.

Sword is just as good, if not better, than the dog. The damage potential for the sword goes through the roof as long as you can JI and have 50% tension, which shouldn't be a problem for you if you play Zappa. Ghosts don't do damage, and are bad in some matchups, but vs characters that struggle vs zoners they can troll pretty hard. It just kind of blows my mind that a character with as many overwhelming strengths as Zappa can be so slept on. Then again, they did also consider Millia to be C tier for awhile, so lol. We're talking about a character with full screen whiff punishing and some of the best AA's in the game. Getting in on Venom is no small task for most characters.

This thread is funny. But really, someone explain to me how Venom and Zappa are C tier.

I think the AC tier lists tend to be more of a ranking of players than characters.

23 people for GG in 2012, take that new games. GG's to all, especially Mike Z and Woki. I promise I will get better at defense and stop giving away rounds for free. Oh, and Dreamcast poverty has to become a regular thing, even when I'm gone. 4 player Royal Rumble plz.

I knew it was only a matter of time before I had to have the DC talk. The thing is, DC is a fundamentally strong player. If he played like a normal human being, he'd honestly be as good as Suzume. In fact, I'd argue that the one thing both players have in common is that they can scare pretty much any opponent, even those better than them; DC just does it in a way that's, well, dumb. But that's fine, as long as it works. Do I recommend you copy everything DC does? No, and frankly, most people here right now should probably make it a goal to not look like DC. What you can and should take from his matches is how to control space, with and without coins.

I'd have a PS3 right now, except around this time last year I made the big gay mistake of getting a PSP and NEXT, which didn't cost much less than a PS3 + EXVS would today. Later this year I'll have the game, though. Honestly, I think this game has everything needed to be successful in the States (the netcode probably took all of us by surprise), except there's one huge ass problem: it requires an ungodly amount of resources to run at tournaments. 4 PS3's, 4 monitors, 4 sticks, 4 copies of the game. Okay, doable, just ask everyone to bring their own setup. Now we need an internet connection. How many venues have a decent internet connection, let alone one that doesn't have blocked ports and isn't being raped by a stream? Or better yet, a wired connection that's readily available? And therein lies the problem; why travel to play on a shittier connection than what you have at home? I'm sure this isn't a problem at any arcade that has PS3 EXVS, but what about Evo? FR? NEC? How are people gonna play this game at larger tournaments?

Wanna know the difference between Gundam and Counter-Strike? In Counter-Strike, your teammates will actually listen.

I'd been wondering about that. Like, how the hell did Lark break a chair? He weighs like 150lbs, lol. I'll hit you up on AIM, or you can hit me up. My house is free this weekend so if more people (Socal?) want to crash I can arrange for that, too.

Nearly a full 35 minutes of nothing but DC fighting Dizzy, Sol and May.
