  1. Blacksnake (or anyone reading this thread, really), just add me and send an invite if I'm on. I'm playing Guilty half the time I'm on, anyways.
  2. I don't know if I wanna add this one or not, lol. On one hand, it does show some cool stuff you can do with the tools Johnny gained in +R. On the other hand, it's hard to advocate wakeup 2HS, throwing four coins in two seconds, etc. Pretty sure this is DC playing, since it's an A-Cho vid. Also, a few videos I had on the playlist have been taken down. Most of them were matchvids, which is unfortunate. If anyone has those matches (I believe it was a set of Satou vs Ain and something else I can't remember offhand) or the old video that showed the options Johnny gets off of 6K (it was previously uploaded as "Johnny 6K Tutorial" or something like that), I'd appreciate it if you could send those my way so I could reupload them.
  3. GGs to Biscuits. I can't block Eddie online or off, plus my defense in general has gone down the shitter since I moved from Norcal. Glad you started to vary your air movement after awhile, I was getting worried there for a second. :P
  4. I like this idea. Combo videos in particular are subject to be taken down at any time. Not to mention, many of the accounts that upload them are also home to match videos, so if they become repeat offenders, we lose those, too.
  5. Playing around with Baiken a bit, some questions about wakeup OS. - What's the safest counter to OS with on wakeup? P counter seems pretty safe, but S counter could possibly be safer with meter? - How do you deal with okizeme that catches 1F jumps? For example, Johnny's meaty 2K -> c.S: even if the 2K whiffs, c.S will often times catch you as you jump.
  6. The feeling of coming down from an all-night Guilty Gear high... it's been too long
  7. Anything going on this week? I leave Friday.
  8. One thing I've noticed is that nobody seems to use the up coin as much as they used to. I don't know if it's because people have gotten used to it and are better at defending against it, or maybe Johnny players are just trying to explore other avenues right now. There is gonna be another update in January, so maybe his few remaining bad matchups will even out. Zappa is of course as much as a problem as he's always been, but from what I've seen, Faust and Kliff seem pretty miserable to fight against, too.
  9. So I've come up with a weird little crossup. It costs full tension to do it right, but you do score a lot of damage. It starts by doing 5K (c.S) 5HS KJFRC -> Divine Blade. From there, you have to judge the spacing to see if the crossup will work. Most of the time you'll be in a good position to do the crossup, so just practice a bit in training mode and you'll be able to tell when you won't be able to do it. Anyways, after the DB knockdown, you IAD and do j.HS as deep as possible (and after you've confirmed you've crossed over, of course). Then you do j.HS xx f.S MSDJ xx 2D for another crossup, or loop Jackhound until they die, or whatever. Once your opponent's seen this setup, you can do a few things: j.HS whiff -> land 2S, safejump to bait a reversal, or a JI KJ FRC mixup (since the spacing works well for that, too). If you can loop two or three Jackhounds and end with a sweep, that's 200-250 damage right there, as well as a knockdown with the spacing to land another crossup. If you have a Level 2, you don't have to worry about meter really, since whatever extra damage you miss from doing KJFRC you've already made up for with the previous combo.
  10. Yeah, that's what I meant. Thanks for clarifying, Mitsurugi. For this combo, I find it particularly useful because that way you just tap K, HS, then K. But yeah, like Mitsurugi said, this combo isn't the most practical. It's rare to land a point blank 2D in general, and even if you do 5K -> 2D, you're often times going to be too far for the 5K to connect, or you could have done a better combo even if you were within range. It is useful against characters like May because you can get damage + recoin off of a sweep (2D xx 5K HS HMF -> coin -> dash jump -> air combo), but on the whole, you just won't be using this that often in practice.
  11. When and where?
  12. The thing is, it's not as simple as just "getting used to" things being different from platform to platform. It's one thing to slightly adjust your timing for tight links or FRC's or whatever, but that doesn't change the fact that the game is reading your inputs so many frames slower than it should be. It affects defense in particular as someone else already pointed out, because you can find yourself getting hit by things you reacted to. It also affects the neutral game, since it effectively makes pokes slower and therefore harder to punish with (not to mention that it can make hit confirming harder, but with this game that's less of an issue thanks to hit stop). The only thing we can do as players is accept the fact that the game's gonna be played a bit differently depending on the platform. Just play like you normally would and adjust as needed.
  13. Good shit. I guess now I know why I had such an easy time adjusting to the 360 port, scratching my head at people saying the PS3 port was hard to adjust to. Between the speed difference and reduced input lag, it would make sense that the PS3 version would be the hardest to adjust to.
  14. This is at level 2, I take it? Try a lighter character like Slayer or May to practice on. Off the top of my head, it won't work on Ky, ABA, Robo-Ky or Dizzy (assuming normal hit 2D). Past that, you just have to get good at mist canceling and have a good sense for the spacing. Are you tapping HS for the mist cancel? You should practice that and get in the habit of mist canceling that way, since it often times (not always, though) scores you the fastest possible MC.
  15. It's not like a tier list is going to provide you with any kind of insight as to how to improve as a player, but it serves as a method of gauging what changes have occurred within top level play. Especially for those of us who can't just fly to Japan to play at Mikado or A-Cho, it's nice to know what those players think of the game.
  16. Tier lists are pretty useful if you ask me. It's one thing to see Kliff and Zappa shit on the entire cast, it's another to have your observations validated.
  17. Here. If you're like me and have a PSP but not a PS3, you can practice on NEXT. EXVS is a different game to be sure, but you can still learn the basics in NEXT. Just don't get too mashy with BR.
  18. I'd give my left nut to have Epyon back in FB. I think Epyon would work much better in EXVS than in older games, even as a 3000 point suit.
  19. Mist Finer Stance is a 236 motion, so it'd be more like 23644214D. Not quite as easy as just learning how to do it correctly. :P That being said, you could use a Jackhound from a back dash to change the spacing if you wanna do a weird combo afterwards. Or, as a burst bait if you're close enough that just holding the Mist Stance would get you hit.
  20. My first EC tournament didn't disappoint. Shoutouts to: A3R: I don't think either of us expected our money match to turn out how it did, lol (5-4 for A3R, coming back from 0-3, for those wondering). Glad we finally got to play though, hopefully +R will be out by the time we meet again. Senkei: Nice meeting you man, and grats on winning GG. I definitely need to make it down to Orlando one of these days. Troll Badguy: Keep it up dude, and have fun in Japan. I think your Sol is better than your HOS :P CrimsonDisaster: Sorry I didn't come back to play more KOF, I got sidetracked and yadda yadda. Nice to finally meet you, though like I said, I probably won't be back in Austin any day soon. ludwig van: Thanks again for the room! Sorry we didn't really get to play, but that's just how things happen at tournaments. Everyone in the GG room: Circ, Ama, JohnnyEnsenga, and everyone else who was there. Spirit Juice: RARE COOKING MUSIC
  21. Holy shit gp03 yessss
  22. 100% confirmed for NEC. Here's to my first EC tournament living up to the hype.

    [AC] Johnny vs Ky

Generally speaking, I consider Johnny as having two kinds of matchups: f.S/5K matchups, and 5K/2S matchups. Ky definitely falls into the latter, as a lot of his moves aren't easy to whiff punish due to them lowering his hitbox and the relatively fast recovery on most of his normals. Not to mention, many of his pokes can make short work of your f.S. The way I like to think of it is that Ky excels in the long and close range game, and as Johnny it's your job to get in the range where he has to take the bigger risks, that being approximately 5K max range. 2D out of pressure sounds to me like straight up disrespect, lol. The way I'd punish that is by just MC'ing and waiting. If you space yourself right, it'll be easy to react to whatever the other guy does (usually a jump or mashing something out like Stun Dipper/2D/whatever). In general, I don't recommend trying to beat out any of Ky's moves unless you know the spacing is just right. So instead of trying to 2S/3H a move like 2D, just IB it or react to the whiff and wavedash in.
