What's a Hitbox? Priority? Canceling? Frame Advantage? Meaty Attacks?
qwerty replied to shtkn's topic in Beginner Mode
that's invulnerability though. granted, the way it's handled is unusual for a 2D fighter, but it's pretty explicitly stated to be invulnerability. as for priority, i was under the impression that sf games (barring sf4 and 3s) used to have systems that were the literal definition of priority. then again, i may have simply been trolled. worth reading, particularly the part about convenience: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Glossary_of_fighting_games#Priority -
What's a Hitbox? Priority? Canceling? Frame Advantage? Meaty Attacks?

one thing that slightly bothers me is the use of the word priority, when in gg/bb, priority as sf players know it doesn't actually exist. everything in gg/bb is move levels and frames, which is practically the polar opposite of priority, which is "x always beats y". maybe not the biggest of deals, but i think it's worth pointing out. -
anyways, i wish you the best of luck at the quals, though if you don't learn to respect people better than you as you play them i don't think you're going to get very far i'm sure it's one of many things you're working on, so we'll see i guess and, there might be a special guest waiting for you at the quals

dude i am not even talking about your "shit talk" some of the posts you've made in the matchup threads have been downright cringe inducing
-
you can just read my second post and know exactly what i said
-
if you're joking, then you're a self-parody
-
sorry, you've already revealed to me that you say words you don't know the meaning of, so i'm afraid ironic or not, i can't take anything you say with the least bit of merit and you know when compared to your playstyle what you say on here isn't too far off, so...

when confronted, the wild dacidbro runs away with his tail between his legs, convincing himself he is as good of a player as his forum signature tells him he is.

i am a pretty alright guy. you on the other hand, pollute this community with your unwarranted self importance and ridiculous arrogance when you're not even a smart or good player. have you ever wondered why so many people dislike you? it's not even because you're winning tournaments.
-
LOL, says the mashing baby who can't handle a game that doesn't hand him wins on a silver platter. why don't you learn gg then? i mean, if you're THAT good, you should be able to pick it up and do ft10 with me, right?
-
you're too good for this game jared you're in an abusive relationship, whether you want to admit it or not!
-
well, you're partially right. the te is based on the vewlix panel, which are what you'll be playing sf4/bb on in the arcade if you go to japan. the hrap, on the other hand, is based on the astro city panel, which is what you'll be playing gg/most fighting games on in japan. the primary differences are in button layout (not too drastic, but it matters to some) and distance between the buttons and joystick. and of course, the panels themselves are different, allowing for different places to put your wrists while you play. also, if you want to get used to american controls, you shouldn't be doing it on japanese parts, since american parts are very different, and you'll end up not able to play on either one.

LOL, ok. i stopped caring about this game after the third time i played it and haven't entered a tournament in six months (yet i've still done more for this community than 99% of the chucklefucks on this forum). you know how you're beating dereck and jared (who are certifiably good at fighting games)? you're random as hell and you don't respect anything. the fact that such a playstyle can go so far in this game is sickening, and the fact that i was landing counter hits on you all day when we played tells me that all i need to beat you is training mode; i was once a disrespectful player, so i know exactly what's running through your mind. you want money in my pocket? that sounds awfully ominous if you ask me...
-
that respect thing i mentioned earlier
-
hi im dacidbro! *mashes out of every overhead* *downtech reversals every wakeup* *mashes from disadvantage* *is awful at fighting games*
-
you can't respect anyone, which is why you're not going to sbo
-
lol so much talk of the special olympics when a) blazblue is a baby game and b) regardless of who wins this they're going to get wrecked in japan but hey i guess people have to pretend to give a shit about this game once a year...
-
lol bb "shit talk"

addressing the first post, mixup in bb is primarily one of two things: 1. keeping your opponent honest on the ground 2. air footsies of course, part of keeping your opponent honest is trying to keep them on the ground, which is really goddamn hard in a game where jumps are faster than everything else and perfectblocking in the air carries virtually no risk. for the most part, all you're really able to do is to try and stuff jumps, which is easier said than done (since smart players only try to jump when they know they can). air footsies in this game are also pretty iffy since you can perfectblock for so long and air throws are really only used for punishing whiffs (due to aforementioned throw startup + break window). for the most part, you're really just looking for the moment when your opponent isn't perfectblocking or getting on the ground to anti-air them. okizeme is practically nonexistent in this game, as is anything resembling ground footsies, so at least you're being cut a ton of slack in that regard. my advice? learn your pokes and learn to instant block. neither is very hard and both will get you ridiculously far in this game.

lol, if it was totally useless, then people wouldn't use it; kinda like throws in bb. i'm not arguing that it's okay to miss throw break windows in general, but if you're genuinely not expecting it, presence of mind isn't going to save you. at that point it's raw reaction time and that can fail you at the most inopportune of times. personally, the only throws that hit me in bb are counter hit throws. everything else gets A+B+C'd. edit: and the reason people get throw reject missed in japan is because they don't react with the option select, since it puts you in a throw reject miss state after the 5 frame window.
-
also people getting hit by mixup throws (and i do emphasize mixup) isn't that bad dude, lol i mean, people get hit by ensenga, and that's 30 frames.
-
all throws in cs have 7 frames of startup ib puts you at +5 jump startup is 4 frames do the math
-
falling j.C? huh? also, your definition of jump install is actually the definition of tiger knee. other than that good shit
-
octagon kills your diagonals and it's really annoying to have the gate guide every directional input square is much smoother, anyone who says otherwise simply isn't used to it; it's why virtually every fighting game cabinet in japan uses them.

i'll be heading down to austin sometime soon. i've yet to set an exact date, so as of now anything post-evo and pre-september is doable for me. when are you guys gonna be doing stuff? i play ggac, but i used to play bbcs so if we must play that i guess we could.
