Reading this makes me feel uncomfortable. But that's just be being fuzzy and sensitive. Anyways, a few things: I actually think some of the things Final Shadow says are good points, but most people are ignoring what he says due to the presentation of his posts and the fact that he comes off as a giant troll at first glance. I'd rather see people argue less about why banning macros is FUNDEMENTALLY wrong, and see a discussion about regardless of whether its right or wrong, why we need to be making a compromise in order to preserve a community. I personally think that if all we cared about was objectively constructing the fairest best etc etc tournament, macros should be banned. But whether or not you agree with that, I do agree that COMPROMISES can be made in order to say, not "dick out" pad players etc. I don't think this is the BEST solution but I notice it hasn't been mentioned yet: What if you leave the decision up to the players - any player can ask the opponent whether they're allowed to use pad macros or not. The choice is individual, you don't have to monitor anything. Just a random thought, not really pushing for it or anything... BUT it does make one think - earlier in the thread a lot of people mentioned things like "well the shortcut is kind of scumbag but I won't be using it and I think we can trust everyone to not use it". If that's the case and we're working on the honor system, I see no problem with enforcing that by allowing opponents to make the ban / allow decision, because surely they'll trust you and give you the okay. Or do you think people would just say no every time? If so, I feel like that is pretty proportional to the amount of people who would just use the hold-down glitch all the time. And if that is the case... I'm interested in a possibility in which all pad AND all stick players just have an extra macro button for the sake of shortcuts etc. I feel like the meta for the game would change drastically, and whether or not it's manageable or not, I do feel like this does veer far from the arcade version - something I personally wouldn't want but that is simply my opinion. Not trying to push my opinion onto others, but I haven't been seeing a lot of variance in what's been said in the thread recently. Edit: I thought you were making a metaphor with the bomb-wall; then I realized you were being literall and I laughed at my self :D

@antiquarian: my notes for jojos are really scattered. i have a google doc for bruno combos that i haven't updated in a while, a youtube video with pucci bnbs, and then i tweeted some good bnbs with a bunch of random characters over the course of the last couple of weeks lol. so the short answer is i dont really have one, especially if you're talking about centralized. your best bet is to tweet me questions as others have done in the past, seems to work out okay -

Don't see infinites mentioned at all. He said he liked the "broken" stuff, but I don't get how that means the infinites. There were plenty of other broken things lmao. -

@powerstar: jp players dont play offline for the most part, so you're left with Americans. We might stream offline casuals at NCD this month, that's about all I can think of hahaha... We aren't mourning for the infinites. We're mourning the loss of a lot of interesting places to explore. I don't think anyone here is mourning the infinites and I'm unsure where you got that from The patch fixed the worst thing about the game - 1f jumps. Not to mention nerfing crossup hitboxes and improving dashes were also nice improvements. It's just that it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when you lose a lot of game potential due to the devs inability to fix things in an elegant way. A patch shouldn't have to be a big give and take. People need to stop getting so defensive about the negative responses to the patch and take it with a grain of salt, or play more kusoge. -

I think the current IB is what makes this game fun and enjoyable. I think people don't understand how terribly the game is constructed in most regards. If you actually try to play the game the way they wanted you to it's pretty lackluster as well as frustrating. The dominance of IB'ing changes the way the game is played and imo distracts from the plethora of problems by giving you at least some universal consistent answers to rely upon. When I try and "sell" this game to others, I tell them about how amazing IB is and how they will love the satisfaction of it due to being GG players. Outside of that what is there. I spent the entire day yesterday choosing to play JoJos over GG / EXVS casuals because it was enjoyable, not just because I'm a jojo fan, and the above is the main reason. It's really one of the few unique things the game offers and if I'm going to play kusoge, I might as well play one with something to offer. The current way IB works saves the game imo - and others I've spoken to have expressed similar thoughts. Not trying to convince you guys otherwise or whatnot, just vouching for it amongst the many naysayers. -

Mmmm I haven't really experimented much with him, but I think he's pretty playable because he has a standing overhead. For those who haven't played much offline, instant blocking is pretty much the defining element of how matches play out (well aside from infinites Kappa). IB'ing is so strong (free punishes) and difficult to punish that the game becomes extremely defensive. Throws do barely any damage, and okizeme in general is pretty mediocre unless you are a char with strong oki. On top of that, you can OS IB and throw tech which makes it even harder to punish throws. The game feels like it plays out extremely defensively due to the presence of IB. Note especially that you can mash low IB without getting a backdash or anything out too. Thus, having an overhead automatically makes a char playable because at the very least they have to respect your blockstrings. Yoshikage also gets the same unblockable in stand ON form, which is always useful. His 236 SR is very orthodox which means he gets decent damage conversion, and coin can be used in normal mode, which makes it pretty useful. He also has the same j.B, which is AMAZING (instant overhead, can cross up, INSANELY ACTIVE). On the subject of j.B, those moves are really powerful because feinting throws into rising jump normals are good for baiting throws, and for baiting IB / throw tech OS! And also because almost everything is minus on block, some jump-in frame advantage is pretty damn useful to have. I'd probably rate him as average, personally, simply due to the actual META of the gameflow. Tier list is like Infinites > 100%s / Situational Infinites > MONKEY NANDAYO > Characters with Mixups / High Damage > Everyone Else. I think he really needed a 22 input or some other special move, or better conversion off of 6C. Coin could also be a bit better but its still useful. Honestly I think you can win just abusing StandON j.B because that move is just silly good. -

Just an FYI, Kosaku is quite decent. Not only is Meaty Bites the Dust unavoidable unless you have a DP / Wakeup Super, his StandON Air Bombs recover amazingly fast, it's like having a free Gunflame FRC. On TOP of that, you can even stand rush them for even more hilarity. I already tweeted this a while back, but you can do some really basic and solid things with him such as: StandON KD > meaty 236X (daiichi) > SR > j.B > etc > knockdown > 22X on their wakeup > 214C meaty > SR > j.B > 5A > etc. You also have an amazing OTG pursuit move that gives you fixed distance / wakeup time which means you can easily do 214C > SRC > j.B off most knockdowns. NOT TO MENTION his j.C AND j.B are instant overheads. j.B is also so active that if you accidentally whiff it will just crossup on the way down... Rising j.C if forwardjump'd can get you thrown, but neutral is great and it's so active due to being multiple hits that you can really throw it out early air to air with very little consequence. -
The new testament is really fun to play - enough so that I'm really considering making him my primary sub! I might post bnb's later because it seems like no one has actually written out character specific optimal net loops in an accessible place yet. Regardless they'll probably up on my public notes eventually.

Keep in mind that crossup protection not only goes away if you choose to FD - it also doesn't apply if you guard high. Like Order Sol's gunblaze, you can use the crossup to condition them to block low even if it doesn't cross up itself, giving you more free reign to throw in 6Ps. Helps stop them from mashing too, ofc :P. Playing around with it in training mode you CAN get that setup to crossup, without having to throw in the extra 5K, but regardless you must add a certain amount of delay between the teleport and when the beast hits to avoid crossup protection, so it's best to memorize the timing for inputting Teleport and Beast hit (unless you have a gatling ahead of time and are using the auto-release). You can do w/e you want as long as that delay is there, which also always means they can always jump out of it, though again, this is only if you want the actual crossup - you have like 20 ways of stuffing any attempt to randomly jump out of that crap. Also don't forget that you get extra crossup protection during wakeup (I believe), which is why you won't be able to practice the at neutral timing by just doing knockdown H beast into tp release. I think doing raw crossup H beast after the S beast oki rather than a punch or kick might be better simply because the orthodox setup seems to often be to do KD > S Beast > S bite > H beast > 2K / 2P > c.S > S Beast > H bite. The 2K after S beast followup is airtight, which is nice. So doing other random crap instead of 2K seems legit. I suppose if you wanted to be hella confusing you could do like KD > S Beast > H Beast > 2k > c.S > S Beast > H Beast or something silly, though there are hella gaps lol.

I'll finally be showing up for this! :D
-
my color comments are not in the context of +R. wadako showed up in a lot of vids for a while pre-+R, so yeah.
-
Poked my head in and was surprised to see people talking :>. Good shit for contributing, Alex. MK plays White IIRC. Jonio plays random colors but he leans towards White when he's not just picking something arbitrary. You should include Wadako, though he might not be that impressive, he has been playing in +R vids recently. Fujiyoshi looks like a new rookie who's been in a recent mikado +R video as well. He's not that good but his playstyle is pretty progressive, though a lot of his footage is him beating up on other rookies or dying to gods. Also Jonio > Omito imo.
-
Videos are finally being uploaded. I'm also going to be streaming some review commentary alongside lark and possibly others on my channel today.
-
Danisen seems like a very good format for P4U since the game is new and players are still learning and evolving. It feels more like a neck to neck race, rather than a 'you must be this tall to ride'.
-
Oh thanks ThePhantomnaut for letting me borrow his stick countless times before fixing my own lol
-
my ps3 power cable got lost somewhere between evo and japan, so the full replay uploads will be delayed. Hoping for getting them out by this weekend or mon/tues at the latest.
-
The audio quality on the records is kind of bleh, so we're going to be uploading the replays (they all got saved) after we do live commentary over them. expect that post-event review commentary to happen live on either this Saturday or POSSIBLY tomorrow. They'll then be uploaded to YT.

Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core Side Tournament(s) at EVO2K12
brett_ replied to Sol-Bumguy's topic in Archive
I believe there were like 49 entrants. Somewhere in the 40's for sure. Best part of the tournament: *Storm wants a picture with Dogura, asks me to ask Dogura* Me: Hey Dogura, this is the strongest Robo-ky in America Dogura: *slightly taken aback* Oh. Me: He wants to know if he can take a picture with you. Dogura: Yeah sure *picture taken* *10 minutes later, Storm playing his match* The intent look on Dogura's face as he watches the match: Priceless -

There's a ton of dead time, disconnects, and stream failure, so I will also be restreaming a live commentary review of the entire tournament on my own stream (http://twitch.tv/thebrett) so those of you interested in watching the blow by blows can look forward to that some time this week or the next (will update when schedule is confirmed). Due to the poor mic quality, we simply saved the replays and were planning on doing commentary afterwards. Since I was going to record some commentary, I might as well stream it and make it live. We'll be uploading the matches individually from my archives, so definitely check those out on my youtube (http://youtube.com/unlimitedbrettworks) when I can upload them. If possible, we might just upload the actual replay files themselves for anyone interested. Special Thanks - I'll skip the obligatory and give some thanks to silent vigilantes that secretly helped this event go down: Shoutouts to Fred aka PhaethonH for saving EXVS @ Evo from certain doom, patching our tourney setup with Fred Magic, and constantly monitoring the network all day. You're seriously the best. A billion thanks again to James aka Xie for: Letting us use his network card to stream finals, letting us use his stream so we had 1000+ viewers on this game, fitting us in his stream schedule to begin with, letting me abuse the hell out of his megaphone at the expense of his own voice, and having infinite patience with the amount of d/c's we had forcing us to go behind schedule. On that note, shoutouts to the BB community for bearing with the delayed BB stream, and shoutouts to Dippy and the Melty community for running a clean fast tournament so we could have time on stream. Thanks to Munsu for being a champ with equipment and setups, and to TheWhiteDevil for helping out with moving equipment. Thanks to all the players who had to wait forever due to disconnects and only having one setup. Especially team nameless! Thanks to the Marvel players stationed 2 feet away from us for bearing with me screaming into a megaphone commentating on flying robots shooting eachother with laser guns for 10 hours. Thanks to all the people behind the tables who tolerated me dashing and stepping over all their equipment to harass visit James Thanks to all the stream monsters viewers for the stream quality feedback and patience with disconnects etc. Personal shoutouts: I'd like to personally thank the two teams from Vancouver, Canada: Team Manz and Team Merc-a-lot. Thanks for coming out and flying all the way to Vegas to support the scene. I recommend checking their channel out on http://www.twitch.tv/bakch01 if you're interested in watching more competitive EXVS play! Shoutouts to them getting both their teams into top 3! Shoutouts to that awesome mom of one of the entrants who kept taking pictures and cheering on the players - any pictures people took that they want to share, feel free! Shoutouts to all the international players who came - you know who you are! Shoutouts to suicide kills, losing games to friendly fire pizzas, side subs, blind picks, double melee, self-cut Raider Gundams, and passion fruit tea Shoutouts to Tenkai for being a giant glowing distraction an amazing partner Shoutouts to the never-ending second match vs team Manz Thanks again guys, I had way too much fun helping making this tournament happen.
