  1. As an X fan, I'm happy with this result. I'll just pretend it's X6's protagonist.
  2. The themes and emblems were on there. Did you miss the part where the data you downloaded was like 300mo ? And I'm not saying I prefer one company over the other. I'm just commentating on the way they went on the matter so far. Good job making assumptions. On topic, mashing for enhanced damage is stupid but I guess people liked it so they brought it back ? Heh.
  3. So far, Capcom has "released" in its game 2 DLC characters, both of which were on disc (and unfinished in the case of Shuma Gorath). ASW has added 3 characters to their main game, two of which at least were not on the disc (I'm not entirely sure for Makoto). So as you can see, there is no comedy to be found anywhere in that statement.
  4. I think it is an inferior alternative to working on a new game in the case of ASW, and loathsome money-grabbing in the case of capcom. I don't think they do much to expand the life of a game quite honestly, at least not in the competitive department - casual gamers get excited when something new comes out, and game theorists like having a new character to work on, but unless the new character is proven to be really effective in the metagame, they'll end up being useless mass to the competitive players - like Jill and Shuma ended up being. Ultimately it doesn't matter how many characters a game has, what matters is if the game is fun to play or not and if the characters are interesting to play as or not. So DLC characters are, by nature, completely superfulous. What's more, they add a problem of general coherency - taking the example of Continuum Shift, there are not only as of now three entirely different versions of the game (1, 2 and Extend), but both 1 and 2 have several different "versions" depending at which time you played them and which characters were available. I remember a time when in my zone, when someone said that there was a blazblue tournament being held, it wasn't always clear what metagame we would have to play in. I'll agree that this is because the people that hosted those tournaments had little understanding of the game and it's community, and thus weren't communicating with us, but this wouldn't have been a problem in the first place without them. In the end I can say that as for me, I have a slight nevrosis that makes me want to have everything sealed in neat little packages - simply put, the idea of downloable pieces of data with no physical existence is just irking. I could have my BB blueray and it wouldn't, in and of itself, allow me to play the blazblue I wanted on it. I would have to download additional things. Call it silly, I don't really care. I just simply hate that thought. This whole "X is a crybaby" thing needs to die, seriously. It's like you guys just all picked up X7 and decided that this is where the franchise started and ended.
  5. I hope this isn't true. Fuck DLC characters. When the concept was new I was intrigued, but now that I'm acquainted with the reality of the matter, I'd really rather not, no matter how badly I want megaman in.
  6. Considering the guy just said he thinks assist "spam" and using disruptor is "mindless", I would stop arguing here. He probably thinks spacing with hadoukens in SF is mindless spam too.
  7. I'll never understand why people are so against TOD comboes in Marvel. Everytime I see someone complaining about that I lose a little respect for them. I'm also loling at this "comboes are easy so fundamentals are not needed in this game." Makes perfect sense.
  8. To all GG elitists that have been crybabing these last 3-5 years : this is the sort of guy you spawn, and is exactly how you sound like. Hasn't been true in a while.
  9. Airdash mixups are tricky online
  10. Because that's an acceptable trait for a move to have if it's properly balanced with an adequate risk or price for going to it Which that camera projectile quite obviously doesn't have It looks fast like maybe in the 7-15 range, not sure, but 0...
  11. Why would they make a 0 frame omnidirectional fullscreen instant special projectile that OGTs
  12. Sentinel, Hulk, Thor, Taskmaster, Spencer, technically Phoenix and I think Spiderman. And some of the new characters are in the same boat, like Nova and yes Frank. Really it's not that odd at this point.
  13. It is because Frank's levels up faster while drunk. And yes, I watched all the available material, and you are comparing apples to peaches. Phoenix Wright's is random as shit with not always getting the evidence you want (even when it's all "right" evidence, it's not necessarily the ones with the moves that you want attached to them) and his powered state is a time-limited thing, very short, that consumes his evidences, AND that forces him to play defensive for a random amount of time if he wants to get to it. Contrasting that, Frank West levels up at a controllable pace, while staying agressive AND using a fullscreen projectile that can potentially severely messes things up for ennemy zoners and that rushdown characters dashing in need to be wary off. Like I said : nothing to do with each other, no reason to even begin to compare them. Might as well say that Tsubaki is a better character than Hakumen since she can gain her meter by pressing on a button, while he has to wait for it to naturally rise.
  14. I didn't expect Rocket Raccoon of all characters in the game to look so gdlk, and yet here we are. Wow. Fucking awesome. Lol what the fuck. They look nothing alike. Like, at all. That's a pretty stupid thing to say considering they play nothing alike, have completely different leveling systems that offer completely different advantages. Man those trailers put me in such a good mood and then this wall of dumb in the thread.
  15. I see this thread bolded and I expect news being discussed. Even the Persona 4 thread isn't as bad as this, and that's saying something.
  16. It did the exact opposite of working for Marvel.
  17. In the context of this game infinite meter is completely worthless, especially since the duration is so short. That feature has effectively no use for those characters. Not a bad use, not a weak use - none at all, zero, nada.
  18. You say "resorted" and "lame out", but I don't understand why you are incriminating this behavior when it is the optimal use of the character. Do you also incriminate people that chip out incoming characters, or do quasi-unblockables ? Because those also ignore the rules of fair play, yet are all excellent tools used to secure the match. Dark Phoenix is strong in MvC3 because once she's out, she has the tools to take out whole teams without taking a single risk. And the players will do that because they risked their neck picking her and getting her snapped in three times in the match, so now that they've got her they're going to get that win. Regular Phoenix is bad because she is 1/3 of a character. She is a character that can be killed by simple A>B>C, fully prorated airthrow comboes, and can even be chipped out with barely an effort. She is a liability, and her rushdown is not safe enough or strong enough to make up for that terrible terrible health. That's not even talking about her laughable meterless damage, and the fact that she pretty much HAS to not use meter. Using her in any other way than to secure the five meters is not an acceptable risk for anyone, because the character by itself doesn't suffice. Those "lame" runaway tactics you seem to decry are exactly what make regular Phoenix a viable option, and now that she'll lose them she won't be a strong tournament option anymore, but a regular class cannon that most people would feel to insecure picking. A lot of games have those, and they aren't bad characters - just characters that are a gamble, and most top players don't like character gambles and prefer to stay in a comfort zone where their gameplan is as strong as can be. A lot of characters in this game have good mixups and resets once they get in. That doesn't make them good characters in the metagame because that's not enough. Normal Phoenix might have a couple of tricks to force a wrong block but so do Haggar, Ryu and Thor. Nothing she does is safe enough to justify the health she has, and her slow movement (when compared to her powered up version, not objectively slow) make it easy to wait for the opening and punish. Jumping around and throwing fireballs, waiting for an opening, is just the best and safest way to play her because rushing down is just not worth the risk. You are right though in saying that her regular mixups have been overlooked, and that is probably what let Flocker do 22f overheads on top players, but really that doesn't mean much except most people forgot she even had that attack. Incidentally, before Phoenix even existed, I thought the same thing about Arakune. Characters with this kind of super mode always either feel not worth the risk, or tremendously overpowering depending on how you balance them. Now I wonder which of these Phoenix Wright will turn out to be (from what I saw he's going to struggle untill he can get that first knockdown or force the opponent out of punish range, but from then it should be relatively smooth sailing since he can get like, all three evidences in barely a second).
  19. Wouldn't make sense for Atlus to not pick this up honestly.
  20. You might want to read that article Viscant wrote about the "Phoenix factor", because "Just snap her in and kill her" doesn't really cut it - that's exactly the reason why Phoenix is very dominant in the metagame right now. Also you're deluded if you think the normal Phoenixes will fight - their runaway will not be as braindead as it was before, and they'll have to actually block a few hits now, but they'll definitely be running away because that's the optimal behavior. Normal Phoenix is a terrible character that couldn't fight worth shit so saying she'll be "outshined" by other characters in UMvC3 is also kind of funny to me. She'll not be as picked as before by top players because she'll become more random considering her strings are punishable now, but she'll still be very strong, definitely still capable of slaughtering whole teams.
  21. This is largely blown out of proportion. Dark Phoenix is still very good. And a lot of her usual team mates got better.
  22. That's hardly the only fullscreen lvl 3 that is 1f startup and that kills dark phoenix in one hit. In fact it's probably the least effective of them as a deterrent since you need to be in turnabout mode to use it, and that's a dead giveaway that you're looking for it. Not even counting the fact that the gigantic range of Wright's H attacks in this mode already could probably punish the shit out of Phoenix, so it's not like she'll be pushing random button when Cornered kicks in.
  23. And just like that, Star-Demon validated the existence of this thread.
  24. People not actually reading the articles they link and over reacting, acting like an optional mode is an act of betrayal News at eleven
