Looking for a longterm character to main. Im new to guilty gear so just curious. Which of the characters gameplay is the most classic guilty gear greatness? Which character do you play and think wow this game is amazing ?

The character that made me pick up GG was Zato. Everything he does just looks extremely cool and unlike anything I've ever seen. Of course, that doesn't say much when you take into account that I was 11 years old at the time, but I'd say he still fits OP's criteria nicely.

Uhh, good luck?

I guess the best character to showcase what makes GG great would be either Sol or Ky. They're the most ´´normal`` characters in the game, and they both utilize all the game mechanics really well.

Honestly though, this game really shines when you get into a match with someone who's about your own skill level, regardless of which characters are being used. A Millia vs Venom match between two pros, a Sol vs Sin match between two beginners, whatever, as long you're having fun, that's what counts.

When I seen Potemkin play, I knew I had to pick up Guilty Gear. A grappler with an insane amount of tools that look cool as all hell.

Faust, Eddie/Zato, Bridget and A.B.A also looked really interesting to me. The character design was great.

And I-No. How the fck could I forget I-No.

Tie for me between Faust and Potemkin. I don't play grapplers, but Potemkin has a satisfying tool set that reminds me of Urien from SF3 for some reason.

Faust is just one of a kind, and I love troll characters.

Pot.  Hes a strong, non-gimicky grappler with a useful kit for covering his weaknesses.  I can't think of very many games that have that.

I always thought they all embodied what makes GG great.  They all feel unique with varying degrees of strengths, weaknesses, technical difficulty and playstyles.  You could go to random select and find a character who meets those criteria and more.

Zato and Venom. Most complex characters ever designed with nearly unlimited capabilities. Both of them allow you to develop your own artistic playstyle with signature setups.

The only characters that can be compared to them in terms of complexity are Carl (BB) and Lieselotte (AH).

You rang?

When are you going to fill the Glam Rock GG archetype? D:

Also I feel like the RC system is what makes GG: you just get a level of freedom with combos and movement you don't get in other games. BB and P4U, as fun as they are, are pretty flow chart-y. Even with a character like Sol, I've seen players come up with their own style of play. In fact, browsing through this forum just proves one point: ALL the characters represent GG so well. They are so varied and fun and interesting, there's something for everyone.

IMO this question doesn't really make sense because there is no one character that "embodies what makes gg great." What makes gg great is the variety of characters, and how they're all completely different from one another. Most characters play literally nothing like the next, so can't say there is one that emobodies gg.

Pot embodies gg just as much as eddie, just as much as millia, just as much as Johnny. Despite the fact that none of them are anything alike at all

As much as I'd like to agree with that, it's difficult to keep the character roster completely unique when it's this big. It's hard to deny the similarities between Sol and Ky, or Millia and Zato, even though there are quite a few differences between them.

Everyone, really. Maybe Pot because he is the only grappler in any game I actually have fun fighting against, it isn't as frustrating. And he is also fun to use.
