Urkelbot Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I was just wondering if Litchi is a very common character, or if she's one of those characters that makes people snap their fingers in respek. I know that when I fight a Carl or Rachel, no matter what happens I send that person a message full of props for using them. What do you guys think about this? Do Litchi players deserve respect?
Nakkiel Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I'll go out on a limb and say yes, she's easily one of the more complex characters to use and requires a good deal of skill to be proficient with.
Chun Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I do get more often than not praise from people I've never played before; mostly it's compliments on execution on just the whole long string mix-up. Don't know about this "respect" though; we're execution masochists for sure.
STenSatsu Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Does it matter? Play the character you enjoy regardless of 'respect'. =P I will say that her combos are pretty flashy and riichi shit gets some attention usually. =D
Urkelbot Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Either way she's my girl. But it's still nice to know that the character you use has a little steeper of a learning curve... I need all the confidence boosts I can get
WayINside Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 nope, most of the time they will cry over her too good normals, and too long combos :S
Cornix Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 nope, most of the time they will cry over her too good normals, and too long combos :S Yeah.... online sometimes I'll get props for doing a riichi (since it's also like 4 or 5 times harder to do online) combo or using the riichi kicks in general... But in real life I normally get dirty glares for using her long combos, or the one time I messed up the riichi combo in the corner and so I ended up catching them with the C kick on recovery instead and hitting them 7 or 8 times in the air... I got a real dirty look and a lot of muttered curses when they realized that it wasn't them missing techs, it just combo'd like that.
Spud Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I get praised a lot...right up until I have to play someone. I do a lot of things that confuse my opponent (and entertain me), like RiichiC juggles in the corner, j.BC loops, etc. People get really pissed at me sometimes since a lot of things I do look like loops. I've gotten some hilariously angry hatemails over Live.

I've gotten a few from Rachels for doing 2C 6C.... Tagers seem to deal with it better. I get lazy online a lot and don't mixup my tech traps at all and just do 6C Tsubame 6C D, it's ineffective normally but online it works well, and when they keep being caught by it they yell at me for abusing loops, they don't notice that it black beats or that they tech and I catch them....
Ryd' Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 In my experience, there are two main schools of thought on Litchi. 1) Those who dislike her because most of her combos take forever/don't do enough damage/stick is too damn big/goddamn Tsubame 2) Those who respect the patient and controlled mentality it usually takes to get very far with her. And the sexy combos.

I took it as respect
Colt_MX Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I normaly get mesages from other players when i land over 25 hit combos, some times there is people who say that they didnt know Litchi could be so ofensive and stuff like that. Any way I dont think I play this game for respect, I play it for pure combo FUN.
Spud Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 There's nothing more satisfying than raping someone with corner okis and get a message along the lines of "OHHHHHHHH MY FREAKIN' GOD DUDE HOW DID YOU DO ALL THAAT!!!!!!!????::thumbu::scared::drool:" Yes, the smilies were necessary.
Naters Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Lol, my firends hate, absoloutely hate being in the corner and despise tsubame with all thier heart seeing it's like god's gift invincibility frames and stuff. lol
lockdown Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I get props whenever I do riichi combos in the corner. BTW, new guy here. Hello.
sonny Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I think so. As a failed Litchi user myself, I have a lot of respect (and fear!) for an awesome Litchi that can really utilize her staff and difficult combos with apparent ease. Seriously though, a Litchi that knows what they're doing scares me even more than Nu. :-[
OhNoez Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Nu isn't scary. A 720 is scary. Girl with swords, not so much.
Shining Aquas Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I don't know if "respect" is entirely the right word to describe it. Yes, other players tend not to openly give you shit for playing Litchi (and how could they, she's probably the least friendly character to spammers in this entire game, outside of Carl), so it definitely seems like respect in that you don't get ratted out for playing her unlike playing Ragna or Jin. People know she's hard to use, therefore they usually give off a feeling of being impressed over being angry when Litchi starts doing her dance of endless death. Respect probably isn't correct though. I don't hear anything, but I can feel this....evil feeling....like a really dark mood circulates the room when Litchi does her crazy combos. Like, the opponent gets angry but refuses to complain against a character like Litchi. I hope they don't all snap one day and murder us for all the corner shenanigans.

You can't diss big boobies.
Colt_MX Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Just 10 minutes ago some guy MSG me to tell me that he was done for plaing blazblue for a while XD. That he was going to research about how to beat Litchi with noel. I dont know if thats respect but it is fun lol.

Those messages are fun... but normally they are written in a slightly more... hostile... tone.
STenSatsu Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 People seem to hate waiting through the long combos understandably.
G4ymBoy Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 her combos are pretty flashy and riichi shit gets some attention usually. =D This is very true i have a bunch of messages about pulling off Riichi combos ragna players fall for it a lot. OT: Litchi is a blast to play when you have her combos registered to muscle memory. then you can keep most online players in the corner for half the match. (DP, 6C, D, 6C, DP...hilarious).
Spud Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Well, I must say I hate waiting for Nu, Ragna, and sometimes even Tager to get through with their sometimes annoyingly long combos.
Scilin Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I'd consider myself just a notch below mediocre but most of the matches I play when my opponent talks its either wow someones using Litchie or I hate that F!@#ing stick.
