Dr.Faust Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Woah, dude, slow down. Venom's from England though he has dark skin (possibly part Egyptian/African?). He's an orphan so we don't know if he's truly from England. . Well With that Egyptian Eye I have to say its most likely the first
Shadow Draygon Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 That's like saying Yugi from Yugioh is Egyptian. He's English.
Blade Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 (edited) Okay, here's the thing: Certain translations of Venom's bio (and what I've gathered thus far of Night of Knives) have hinted at the notion that there are various orphanages throughout Europe and Russia and Spain where orphans are gathered and trained against their will to be forcibly drafted into the Assassin's Guild Organization. I don't know if this is true, only that I'm aware Millia Rage herself expressed resistance to her training prior to the end of the Crusades as they were trying to make anti-gear weapons out of various subjects (this is mostly PWAB's doing). The truth is even if the assassins or orphans raised by the guild are given a nationality, that doesn't necessarily meant they are "of" that nationality. In other words, Millia might not necessarily be Russian, only that she was raised in an orphanage in Russia. Likewise Venom and Zato as well. What's more, eventually these three were brought together for various missions together, despite their 'declared' nationalities and regions, and in several instances Zato makes reference to the idea that Millia and Venom were practically raised together with him. So it's almost impossible to know exactly WHERE they are from. Only Zato knows his own birthday, and that's about all that's said. So far Slayer has said nothing about the Guild's methods for adoption or training, only that he put his utmost trust in Zato and later Venom for various reasons. As for Sharon, there is no public statement on her except that it is likely she is over 300 years old and has the ability to regenerate even if Slayer drains her of life. That being said, if you've ever seen the Underworld movies and knew about the concept of "True Immortals" the forebears of Vampires...it's likely she might be one of them but this is postulation. It is possible according to these movies for a vampire to evolve into a true immortal through varying circumstances and surpass the need for blood feeding. I don't know more details than that. Ky and That Man refer to Slayer as "Ishu/Kishu" which means "One of Noble Blood" or "One who walks at Night". Edited January 17, 2011 by Blade
Sunnyday Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Guilty Gear Judgment Dialogue FAQ (Work-in-Progress): http://www.gearproject.onehitcombo.net/Guilty_Gear/Story_Dialogue/Guilty_Gear_Judgment.txt It's tedious because it's a lot of repetition, but I'll get it finished eventually. Thanks for doing this blade. I gonna check it asap

That'd be like explaining Slayer is like a vampire from Twilight because he can fight on stages during the day time. Or you know, maybe he is and the effect budget ran out to make him sparkle on day lit stages.
Blade Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 (edited) Well, for what it's worth that's the best explanation for S-ko. *shrug* Movies are part of the references in this game. Edit: Which reminds me, I'm trying to find out what horror movie these Triplet guys are from... http://www.bakane.net/baka1.5/gallery/gif/guiltygear/zappa-ghostattack.gif Edited January 17, 2011 by Blade
BioLogIn Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Hey Blade I finally upped more of your works at gg.ru: http://www.guiltygear.ru/download.php. Please kindly let me know if there is something I'm missing or if something needs to be updated. And my apologies for missing out for a few months, it's been a hard year 2010 =\ I'm sorry about that (
Blade Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 As of now the voice actor listing is somewhat out-of-date, I need to update it with a full listing of the English cast of GG2 Overture, as well as the Korean voices credited for the dub of Korean #Reload (givin' credit where credit is due).
Arvoyea Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Just wondering, so it's basically everything but confirmed by Daisuke that May is Japanese?
Circuitous Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 "The subject's birth and origin are unknown, but there are several unconfirmed reports that she carries the genes of the Japanese. We would like to assess this quickly." Close enough.
Blade Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 Well even if you didn't rely on the PWAB report, Johnny knows, Anji caught on, I-No caught on as well...and in particular Ky is aware of her being one of the people on the Bounty List that was generated circulated by I-No. The bounty list is as follows: Anji Mito Kuradoberi Jam Millia Rage Baiken Chipp Zanuff May Older Bounties: Johnny Venom Zato-One Dizzy

That bounty list on top is essentially either people who can use ki and/or are Japanese. Johnny's been dodging any mention of May's whereabouts since forever, as if he knows and doesn't want her to know.
Blade Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 Reiterating some things I posted in some older posts here about the Japanese and Ki: Big article in Qi/Ki/Chi here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi Basic idea is that it's a breathing method (Breath of Asanagi) that extends to outer release points on the body. In the manga Veritas, it says that anyone is capable of refining/filtering their energies, but it's more powerful when you practice the methods at an earlier age. My guess is that Chipp, Kliff, Baiken, and Jam started their training early on (Chipp was a late bloomer), hence the raw power they can generate. As said the more energy is purified the stronger it gets, so you have some idea how dangerous a toll it can potentially have, too much Ki can rupture the pathways on the body. So there is balance needed. The GG world treats Ki like a genetic trait, but that's merely outsider observation. More than anything its cultural traditions put into practice and passed down generations. The Japanese ancestry seems to have a different element in this case. Since many are capable of awakening latent powers, similar I believe to the whole Kusanagi/Orochi blood feud in KOF, "Riot of the Blood". Kind of like a combat high or adrenaline rush. Baiken in particular managed to awaken after killing I-no in AC+ though it's more going berserk than anything. Also it is said the OutRage 'Zessen' which Anji uses can only be activated by Japanese blood. I don't know if Anji himself can use Ki, but it's unconfirmed if Needle Type 2 his energy orb is Ki or not. He may be compensating. May hasn't used any evidence of Ki as of yet, only shockwaves of raw power at best. If anything the Ki reserves she has are what gives her massive strength. and As I said Ki is a breathing technique, magic is like applied math/music notation with quantum physics...both are possible, just that magic can greatly affect Ki, such as a support spell like Haste or Quicken. and Ki is one of the magical elements in GG. In GG, recall that magic is actually an effect produced by interacting with the Backyard, a world which you could compare to the background processes that keep your computer running that you don't actually see. In a way, using magic is like hacking into the Backyard and tampering with the programming of reality. Now, Ki seems to be a more neutral "element", something with a more spiritual root, probably relating directly to the latent "magic" within living organisms, or something along those lines. The common fictional depiction of Ki/Chi as an energy that flows through the body that can be channeled (for example, shooting blasts of energy from your palms) is derived from Chinese breathing exercises, and has a medatative aspect, as in Tai Chi. In the Guilty Gear memorial book, it specifically describes the Japanese people of having a natural ability to control Ki, as a result of their "strong spiritual core". The implication seems to be that, rather than being some sort of a genetic trait, it's because of their specific spiritual beliefs or spiritual history that they have an inate predisposition for controlling Ki. In other words, they have natural access to a magic "weapon". This is why Justice made Japan her first target. She feared that, if the Japanese people as a whole were able to awaken to this understanding and weild this natural magical weapon, that they would pose a considerable threat. From a practical standpoint, any Japanese character in GG should be a "natural" at controlling Ki. This is why May being Japanese is supposed to be an important plot point. That's certainly not to say that only Japanese people can use it, of course. Chipp, Kliff, Jam, etc., are able to use this, and their abilities probably stem from training in Asian martial arts which emphasize breathing and Ki flow.
Chipp12 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Blade, could you up your "Character-specific relationship charts", 'cos I've lost them due to the promblems with my system. Also, BioLogIn can add this info to his site)
Blade Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 Blade, could you up your "Character-specific relationship charts", 'cos I've lost them due to the promblems with my system. Also, BioLogIn can add this info to his site) You can find my GGR Series, which is less character-specific and more timeline specific over here: http://darkside-ky.deviantart.com/gallery/25793023 I recommend starting with this page and reading onwards. Also, be sure to check out my OutRage Guide. And if you plan on uploading this info anywhere, be sure to note I'm not done yet with the info. I still have yet to add a GGR for the main series of GGs, the books, and Night of Knives drama CD.
clockmongler Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Just wondering, so it's basically everything but confirmed by Daisuke that May is Japanese? It was pretty much confirmed in AC+. May overhears Johnny asking advice from Baiken about how to handle May's ethnicity and she either decides stay with the Jellyfish pirates or leave to travel with Anji and find more about her culture.
clockmongler Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Also, I think he meant the charts you made a long time ago that were character-specific. I'm not in the mood to dick around looking for them, but they were here somewhere.
Blade Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 The character specific ones weren't charts...they were lists, and they're posts in this thread. :O
Chipp12 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Thanks for that special, i hadn't got it, clockmongler's right, I was talking about these http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?7000-The-OFFICIAL-Guilty-Gear-Canon-Plotline-Q-amp-A-Thread&p=481924&viewfull=1#post481924, that was the last one from you... it would be great if you could collect this posts in one text file Edited February 4, 2011 by Chipp12
Blade Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Even though this isn't exactly a clear cut question, I can say that I will consider it if I have time. Right now I'm rather busy with other stuff (Night of Knives), and to be honest the GGR Series I've created is much more accurate than the lists I originally gave (which aren't complete in any case).
Blade Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 Another GGR Special: This time for the types of Gear Classes: http://darkside-ky.deviantart.com/art/GGR-Special-Gear-Class-Guide-196693612
SolxBaiken Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Another GGR Special: This time for the types of Gear Classes: http://darkside-ky.deviantart.com/art/GGR-Special-Gear-Class-Guide-196693612 Excuse my ignorance since I haven't been paying attention to GG (sadly) for years... Anyways when was it confirmed that Forbidden Beast were Gear? Also Leopaldon is one too? And Inus really? I thought he was a demon? Is there a definite definition on what a Gear is? Cause it seems like anything that isn't human is a Gear, yet I was left under the impression all Gears went down with Justice, with only a few exceptions.
Blade Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) Forbidden Beasts (Kinjuu) have thus far been known to be creatures "derived" from Gear constructs created by the Postwar Administration Bureau (most likely due to failed Gear conversion experiments, such as Testament who after conversion defected to Justice). It has yet to be explained how they were constructed, only that they are derivatives. Thus, they are quasi-Gear in form, or something of an off-shoot, but as they are creatures defined as natural enemies to Gears it's more accurate to say they are likened to "Gear Predators". There is no mention of Command Type Gears ever being able to command or influence a forbidden beast, so therefore they are different in composition to Gears, still it's worth noting their development and origins from Gears. Gig is a Gear, however Inus was defined as "King of the Underworld" prior to his death and Raymond's merging with his remains to become Judgment. It was later explained by Izuna in GG2 that places like the Underworld act as parts and "layers" of the Backyard. And by definition, those beings that live within the various levels connected to the Backyard or within the Backyard itself that are not artificially constructed are called "Youkai". Demons, monsters, mushi, mutants, ghosts, Guardian Spirits, Deities, whatever you'd like to call them, Inus was classified as one of these beings. However, Youkai and Gears are very similar in construction. Both are infused with magic and animal DNA, and often bear human traits (or in a Gear's case, human DNA). The only difference between Gears and Youkai is that Youkai are beings born within parts of the Backyard, whereas Gears are artificially created to serve humans and function according to a system of commands. Even the level of growth and adaptivity, as well as development of self-awareness between Gears (Gears that are free from Justice's commands) and Youkai is identical. Even more, Youkai can easily be manipulated by a Command Type Gear's song (namely Justice) alongside the Gears themselves, thus establishing a link between Youkai and Gears. To explain further, Raymond's merging with Inus to become Judgment is a process that is actually the "reverse" of the incubation period of Forbidden Beasts. In this case, instead of a gear-like existence being the parasite with a human serving as host....a human acts as a parasite to a gear-like host, thus inheriting its abilities during a near-death state. Both techniques appear to prove fatal, though. I hope that helps your understanding a bit more. Edited February 9, 2011 by Blade
SolxBaiken Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Awesome, thanks for the explanation Blade :3
