CASE 1: Ragna=the=BloodEdge:

Prior to Continuum Shift it is said that Ragna is in a perpetual state of "self-refinement" this is similar to what Litchi is doing and what Arakune failed to do. That is to say "the grimoire is not a part of me, I am simply using it" is the philosophy behind how the grimoire actually works.

Ragna's "arm" is a direct mechanism link into the boundary, however without that link it becomes similar in structure to an incapacitated Nox Nyctores, a weapon that runs on Seithr. It becomes hard and dead if there is no link to Seithr, also Ragna becomes blind in his red eye as a result of the link (keep in mind the brain hemisphere that controls the right side of the body is the left hemisphere, yet strangely his right eye is also affected by the grimoire, this may be a misnomer).

So long as his arm is linked to Seithr and therefore the boundary, the mechanism is identical to a cauldron's refinement process, in effect the "refinement" in this case is to maintain Ragna's human form. It is not so much that he is holding anything back, so much as he is "holding himself together".

When he activates the Ars Armagus "BlazBlue" aka "Blood Kain" by releasing the 666 Restriction, he is reconfiguring his cells to intake life-force and regnerate at an even larger rate than what his body can do naturally with his arm in its semi-dormant state. On a cellular level this is similar to an enhanced form of Cancer...his body is rapidly deteriorating, in order to compensate for the spacial distortion being generated from his arm via the "imaginary number" code. This "distortion" breaks down physical and magical matter and "refines" it to regenerate his body's constant break-down on a cellular level. By doing this he enhances his destructive power, but at the cost of his own physical state. Part of the reason he CAN do this is because of being bitten and obtaining Vampire blood/cells from Rachel Alucard. The process called "Blood Kain" is similar to an accellerated refinement of his body, acting as the Cauldron itself.

"Black Beast" is a euphamism for a malfunctioning cauldron, as it did not have a stable Murakumo unit to forge...so in other words, Ragna is using his body as a proxy Murakumo Unit, and so long as his body does not break down utterly, the "cauldron" will never "finish forging the sword". But unlike the actual Black Beast, which had an Unstable (and insane) mind-center (namely Nu-13)...Ragna's mind is the lynchpin that keeps him stable enough to "control" the refinement process, ergo the "powers" of the Black Beast are controlled by him.

Should his body break down, the refinement process could either produce a melt-down and self-destruct in on itself...or the process would produce a completely mindless "black beast" as what happened in CS2 storyline.

However...since CS2, he has inducted into his body something called the "Idea Engine" intended to emulate or possibly be superior to a Nox Nyctores class weapon. This engine is capable of reversing the flow of Seithr in Ragna's arm...as well as in other living entities, in other words it can "give life" and not just "take life". What else this does to his powers remains unknown, but now part of his cell structure is even MORE like a Murakumo Unit's...so he is half murakumo half cauldron and part vampire...so who knows what he is now.

CASE 2: Professor Frederick aka Flame of Corruption aka Sol Badguy:

Sol's body was converted in structure to that of a Gear...reconfigured if you will...what parts of his body remain human are unknown as theoretically he retains his intellect, unlike other Gears...but the process known as "Dragon Install" is a technique that restructures his Gear cells to more evolve into the DNA of the creature that was "grafted" into his body (namely a Dragon). His powers are naturally enhanced by Magic that he draws from the Backyard, but even further enhanced by the Firesealed Sword (Fuuenken) that he wields.

However, because of the nature of evolution, things that are strong and face opposition tend to get stronger, and therefore the cellular structure Sol was given is "exceeding the limits" of his Gear Cell containment device, causing it to erode. This does not mean he is losing his humanity...it is simply that he is no longer classified as human in broad terms (or truly human in the first place). It is mankind's sentimentality that causes us to cling to that which defines us, what's more it is what draws us to use what we define as "effective means" to achieve a goal...in other words what's a gamer without opposable thumbs? What's a warrior without hands to grip and swing a sword? If Sol loses that "sense of humanity" that he maintains within the containment he himself created, he can no longer achieve his revenge on That Man...or...if he can strike a balance between what remains human and the dragon within himself...he can exceed both species (and thus fulfill That Man's expectations that he "become a warrior")...it is this level of evolution that allows him to adapt quickly to the Soul Sinker magic, as well as to become adaptive to the dense pressure of the Backyard.

Sol's body (semi-human or otherwise) is constantly evolving and adapting, therefore it is unknown what kind of lifespan he will have (currently exceeding 170 years of age).

That Man asks the question "who will take on the role of the Devil first, he (referring to Sol) or I?"

Posted

Final Argument: Sol Badguy VERSUS Ragna=the=BloodEdge

A being that constantly adapts drawing power from the backyard versus a being that is using soul energy from the boundary in order to maintain semblance of physical form without breaking down utterly.

There are several questions to be asked:

1. How strong is the Backyard?

2. How strong is the Boundary?

3. Can cellular breakdown infect a lifeforce that constantly evolves and adapts and regenerates (i.e. the Soul Eater effect)?

4. Inversely, can evolving Gear cells be "overinjected with life" (i.e. the Idea Engine effect) and be overloaded to the point of rupture?

5. How long could such a battle last before Ragna's body ultimately breaks down due to over-use of the grimoire (or could he actually last longer than expected)?

6. How long could such a battle last before Sol is no longer cognitive and such a battle becomes meaningless and the equivalent of a man fighting a monster?

I'll leave answering these questions to "true fans". :)

Well, I thought I'd do a brief writeup on what we know about Night of Knives so far (based on my translation earlier):

Calronia Kingdom is dealing with political issues regarding whom will be the caretaker of the kingdom since the last Heir is too young, however due to a certain "contract" the Assassin's Organization is hired to take out one of the King's late benefactors and large supporter of the royal family, the Duke of Scarbury (despite Zato-1 stating he is a shark, which is deception).

They select Millia Rage as the hitman for the job and she is sent in with Zato and Venom as support. Her role serves the purpose of gaining rapport in the Forbidden Beasts as weapons, and also to further the influence of the Guild.

She encounters the eccentric ex-assassin-founder Slayer prior to the hit, and shortly after she is successful, and mistakenly thinks him one of her pursuers only to be told she was deceived into killing a "rightous" man, which goes against the "old" Assassin Code (similar to Robin Hood going after those above the law).

She tries to escape capture, only to be caught by several "modified" supersoldiers serving under the ambitious Leon Maining, who appears to be trying to take over (behind the scenes) the politcal state of Calronia in the aftermath of the assassination of the Duke. One such soldier by the name of Gottfried (for great justice) is in hot pursuit of Venom and Zato-1, only to bungle the chase with his bravado, Venom having successfully bested him enough to escape capture, though to his credit Gottfried is fairly strong.

Not long after, Zato returns to the guild only to have a spat with Slayer, who questions his desires and method of maintaining the Guild (sacrificing his subordinates along the way). Slayer gives him a very violent lecture and leaves him behind, and goes to rescue Millia from Maining's group.

During her imprisonment, Millia is haunted by Zato's seductive ideals for a better world, despite leaning heavily on her to act as an Assassin, regardless of her feelings. She realizes that his ideals will only lead her to a cruel death, and only at this realization she encounters Slayer once again. Slayer entreats her with the option of dying in a prison as a sealed specimen, dying as an Assassin, or seeking her own path of freedom.

Millia is sealed to a set of chains enchanted with a complex high level chord that seems to be able to seal away the 6th Forbidden Magic: Angra. The only way to undo the chord is to sever her highly tensile hair. And in order to do this, Slayer utilizes one of the 8 Sacred Treasures of the OutRage...it is never stated which one he uses, except that the description is that of a small (but extremely sharp) dagger. It is also unknown if this OutRage was entrusted to or actually belongs to him (though personally I think it does, since it's possible he has influence within the United Nations, despite his work in the Underworld and with the Organization). This is possibly where the name "Night of Knives" comes from.

Millia makes her choice to move of her own volition instead of the will of others, and thus Slayer severs her hair that was bound in chains, and she escapes, to return to the Organization...

Which returns us to the present. I will update this summary with more, once I've translated more of the story.

I'm sorry, this has probably been asked before, but I didn't want to have to page through 30 pages..

Did Daisuke dismiss Guilty Guilty 2: Overture to as non canon? I've been told this but I did I haven't seen any evidence of it myself. Does anyone know?

Posted (edited)

To answer that, No, he did not. In fact, it's the other way around.

He treats it like this:

Guilty Gear: The Missing Link

Guilty Gear 2: Overture

^Main Canonical Branches

Guilty Gear X/X+/Advanced/Xtra/XX/Drama CDs/Novels/#R/Isuka/Slash/Judgment/Dust Strikers/Rise of Arms/Accent Core/AC+

^Gaiden Branches

In this case "Gaiden" means all the characters involved in the story are involved in the story of the main canonical branches, but the stories in the Gaidens is not necessarily cohesive, but semi-cohesive in parts.

To simplify things a bit more:

Pre-GG Arc: Parts of Side Red/Black Drama CD, Bible Timeline, Night of Knives

GG Arc: GG, Lightning the Argent Novel, Rise of Arms (phone game)

GGX Arc: GGX, X+, Advanced, Petit 1+2, GGXtra Manga, GGX Drama CDs

GGXX Arc: GGXX, #R, Isuka, Slash, Parts of Side Black Drama CD, Judgment, Dust Strikers, Accent Core, Accent Core Plus

GG2 Arc: GG2, Butterfly and Her Gale Novel, GG2 Material Stories

That should cover it.

Final Argument: Sol Badguy VERSUS Ragna=the=BloodEdge

...

I'll leave answering these questions to "true fans". :)

Can we factor in experience? Ragna is trained young man while Sol just acquired skills from his long life-span. Just curious. If we say that they fought in a neutral universe with no backyard nor boundary, it's interesting how the fight will go.

Your post on Ragna and Sol makes wanna compare Ky and Jin too, but that's pretty hard. Assuming they have the same age I think Ky has a huge advantage in terms of experience, but Jin's attitude is far more deadly.

It's been a while since I posted here

Posted (edited)

Well, the fact that these battles are non-canonical and proxy in the first place is irksome to me, so I can't really do anything beyond put facts on the table. As far as experience goes...ehhh...

Ragna was trained by the strongest of the 6 Heroes (namely Jubei/Mitsuyoshi), so you can't really say his lack of experience is a problem. Certainly he hasn't been fighting for 100 years like Sol (unless you count some alternate universe Bloodedge who is immortal like Haku-men or something, but that's jumping the shark).

Of course, if you were to parallel the idea...Haku-men HAS been fighting for 90 years (cited by Valkenhayn) and Ragna barely managed to beat him WITH the BlazBlue...but you have to consider the idea that the Susanooh Unit is pretty much built like a truck, plus the Ookami is able to cut raw magic (meaning Ragna's wounds won't heal). Parallel Haku-men with anyone in the GG Universe and he'd be more akin to Slayer, what with his OutRage dagger being able to cut through magic chords, no other OutRage is said to actually be able to do that...though I suppose they can, they're the only weapons that are similar to Nox Nyctores.

That said, I don't know how strong the Fireseal is, but if Sol can tap into it as a Gear, then clearly it's very strong, but unless he uses it solely for cutting magic chords (or in this case an Ars Armagus incantation) he cannot nullify the Blood Kain effect directly like Haku-men can (to suppliment this, Sol was unable to disable Valentine's barriers in Bel Canto Valley, though strangely Izuna was able to). The Fireseal is primarily a sword that either produces fire element or amplifies fire element. In fact, most OutRage are simply MEANT as chord magic amplifiers...so take that as you will...

As for Ky and Jin, the only difference between the two in terms of talent, skill, capability, experience, etc. that I see...is that Jin has a glaring arrogant streak...that arrogance makes him show off and not fight seriously like most would. If it was Sol, who almost never fights seriously with raw skill and power that trumps Ky's that's another story, but...Jin is a welter to feather weight at best...so he has to rely on escapes and skill and luck to win. Ky is fast to learn, being a tactical genius, humble in most all facets, and above all, has experience ruling a kingdom that adds to his repetoir of tactics...I'm gonna say Ky has the upper hand over the "current" Jin...I'd say Jin is more on par with Sin, than Ky, and Sin loves to play around when he fights.

If Jin learns anything from Jubei, he might get stronger, but he's lost to Ragna several times already...so I can't say for sure what's gonna happen to him.

I'm posting this here more as a question on process or maybe a means of obtaining them:

Basically I need to find some place that has a good deal on buying the two Guilty Gear Novels and the GGXtra manga.

I'm thinking about buying two copies of each, one to destroy and scan, the other to keep. But I don't want to spend a fortune on it all.

Alternatively I'd like to know if there's a means of contacting the publishers and just "purchasing" an e-book version of the novels in Japanese text. Or at least asking the authors for a script to translate, since Aksys has said they won't be localizing the books.

It's either that or I go find someone who can translate Japanese by eyes alone and read it straight up (and I know Zephyr's busy).

To delurk and revive an old thread...

The GGXtra manga: http://rallamajoop.lisa-rye.com/guiltygear/

(Unless you're looking to buy it for having-it's sake, I've not ever seen it on sale myself, as far as I can recall, though. The only GG mangas I've ever gotten my hands on are a handful of the probably very unofficial 4koma style books.)

Can't help you on buying the novels though. Have you tried searching yahoo! Japan auctions or somesuch?

Also, question that I might as well pose here as well: Were the rest of the Overture Materials stories ever translated? I'm specifically looking for Sin, Ky and Sol's (mostly Ky's). I saw that Raven's and That Man's were translated, but all the links on this post are dead now, so I'm not sure where else to look for them.

EDIT: A couple other things:

Is there ever any indication whether Commander-type Gears are able or unable to influence or control one-another?

We know Dizzy is a Commander Gear, so assuming Sin is for sure her son, would that automatically make him a Commander-type as well (ie, is it hereditary), or is he only a normal human-type Gear?

Thanks!

They are not yet translated but the encoded Japanese text is available. Sadly, the site of the compilation of GG materials in unavailable right now.

There's no event that shows that it could happen or there's simply to opportunity yet. During the Crusades, Justice is the only known Command-Type Gear. In the Drama CD where Justice is dead, Dizzy is the only one too. Other than those two we have Solaria and Valentine who is actually not a Gear initially.

Solaria, a converted Gear can awaken Gears with her singing and has given Sol headaches, but as far as we know, there is no indication in the book where Dizzy is affected. Also, Solaria's singing only seem to affect a small area, town size. We cannot offer conclusions in this case since Lightning the Argent was never translated and we only have summaries.

If we assume that Dizzy is Ky's wife, she's been incapacitated(frozen in time) when Valentine brainwashes Gears and Youkais, so we missed a chance to see if they could influence each other. And if we assume that Sin is her son, it may be possible since it is stated that he has inherited his mother's Gear cells since he can also serve as a Key for Valentine. However, his fight with Sol shows that much of his power comes from his father rather than his mother's.

So far all Command-Type Gears have been female and there's no explanation yet behind this. We can speculate using genetics since we have what we call Mitochondrial DNA that can only be passed to daughters. But that's just my theory and we all know that GG is MAGICAL SCIENCE! :eng101:

Yeah, that's why I got to thinking this. I know we've seen Justice vs Dizzy a little in the games (arcade mode quotes, etc) but never in story, so...

and Valentine who is actually not a Gear initially.

Hmm, I must have missed this. So her Diva form actually transforms her into a Gear (and a Command-type at that) beyond just the physical resemblance to Justice? I had thought initially that she just used Gear cells as a power up of sorts, since we don't really know 'what' she technically is to begin with...

Also, Solaria's singing only seem to affect a small area, town size.

That was something else I was thinking about, the range of the 'Commander Gear's song' since I thought the implication was always that Justice was able to control Gears world-wide from any location. But I guess since Solaria had only started singing recently she probably didn't get to test it or train her range. That along with that Dizzy's never 'used' it in the non-AU, and if she even knows how to or that she can is another question, I suppose.

This was the main reason I had figured maybe Sin might not be one, but yeah I doubt there's any way we can know anything unless Daisuke throws us a bone.

Ah well. I was hoping for Sin and Ky's Overture stories in case they might offer a glimpse into the extent of Sin's abilities and biology and/or info on Dizzy's activities since the timeskip, so I guess I'll be hanging in the wings for if they ever do get translated.

In the Overture script I believe Izuna explained that Valentine is a creature born from the backyard. She was able to transform into a Justice-like Gear because of Sin's cells apparently. However prior to this she can already influence other magical creatures like Gears and Youkais.

I thought the implication was always that Justice was able to control Gears world-wide from any location. But I guess since Solaria had only started singing recently she probably didn't get to test it or train her range.

Aside from range, all Solaria caused are Gear cells mutating and eating their hosts(humans), Hydra going berserk and Sol having a headache. In Testament's backstory it's revealed that Justice put a "human termination/annihilation program" on all Gears. So it's possible that Gears act like some sort of AI where a Command-Type inputs orders. So Justice having a worldwide range may be true in a sense that Gears will act, possibly independently, as long as the programmer is alive or the orders has been not changed.

Also, we don't know if Justice is actually attacking different parts of the world simultaneously since it's been stated that Japan was first. So theoretically, Justice may have a system where the most dangerous race is prioritized. So we can say that China or Korea may have been next since they are more genetically similar to the Japanese, and South East Asia and India may also been next since these are very religious or animistic nations.

Ah well. I was hoping for Sin and Ky's Overture stories in case they might offer a glimpse into the extent of Sin's abilities and biology and/or info on Dizzy's activities since the timeskip, so I guess I'll be hanging in the wings for if they ever do get translated.

I actually tried to google translate them and I got some rough information.

1. Ky story briefly describes his romantic relationship with his lover and her pregnancy. The story is more of his guilt and the pressure he gets when he's been informed that he has no choice to be king. It also has some nice info on the GG world, particularly, what's happening to Europe.

2. Sol's story is about meeting Sin for the first time. After Ky introduced his kid to Sol, who is a half-year old but looks like 4 years old, Sol got angry at him and the rivals had some sort of a fist fight. Sin got in between them and tells them to stop because his mom cries when dad gets hurt. Ky's lover is at the scene and in Sol's perspective, we learn that he knows her.

3. Sin's story is about his travels with Sol and that he takes Chimaki with him. They went to Zepp and Sin tries to play with other kids but they made fun of him and removed his eyepatch. When it got removed, the children called him a monster and shortly after a lighting bolt hit the ground where Sin was standing and scared them away.

Since I only used an online translator, I'm hesitant to add more details other than these. Ky's story is pretty juicy for a :KY:x:DI: shipper.

Since I'm currently working on the GG wiki, I need help in obtaining information. I'm currently writing a Sekishidan article (I'm gonna post it here in dustloop when it's over.) Here are my questions:

1. Was Kliff the first commander of the knight? Or was he just the most successful aside from Ky?

2. Besides, Testament, Kliff, Ky, Sol, the Priest in the Drama CD and the Priest in LtA, are there any other known knights?

Edited by danceljoy
Posted (edited)

Kliff is called Danchou "Head of Command" of the Seikishidan "Sacred Order of Holy Knights". How he got that position is pretty obvious, even if the Order existed 20 years before he was born. The only information that's been gathered about the Order is that the United Nations and other organizations throughout the world have held a Sacred Order Recruitment Tournament every couple decades...so far there have been TWO (2).

The first selection tournament currently has no date, and I'm assuming Kliff participated in that one when he was young, and probably either won it outright due to his freakish strength, or got high standing enough to be selected to join the Order, this is similar to Axl Low's current situation as the Order has stated they will keep an eye on his skill for future reference (if he ever stops time-skipping that is). This is primarily how the Order gets a crop of soldiers to join, by participating in the Tournament.

Because the tournament is a public affair (think: Fatal Fury/King of Fighters/King of Iron Fist Tournament) with many financial hands backing it, it was easy for Testament to infiltrate and manipulate it behind the scenes. In the first Guilty Gear, the public grew exceedingly wary that the Seal placed on The Herald of Destruction (Justice) was weakening. The governments were correct to initiate a selection tournament, but they weren't very careful about whom would run it.

The 2nd Tournament pretty much fell apart when Ky uncovered the mastermind, and Sol dealt with the unsealed and revived Justice. But even so, those who were observing possible recruits for Sacred Order probably had their eyes on returners Ky, Sol, and Kliff...and are wary of May, Axl, Baldhead, Zato, and Millia (Axl being the least concern of the remaining wild card selections). And, according to a certain source, the P.W.A.B. scientists who created Robo-Ky based it on Ky's battle data within the 2nd Tournament...they wanted to test-run it but the tournament was already over by the time a prototype was constructed (near the middle of GGX 2181 or so).

Besides the Priests you mentioned, only Raymond was an ex-Scientist working for the Sacred Order. Also, Ky wasn't the only ex-Holy Knight to join the IPF...even despite traitors within the IPF, he has several police officers who looked up to him from the Order (their numbers are not mentioned).

Thanks a ton. Sin's story sounds really interesting, and I guess confirms what pretty much everyone has been assuming about what's behind the eyepatch. Is there any idea how old he is (either in body/mind or actuality) during that story?

And well, I don't really blame Sol for being a little pissed or having a 'You did what!?' reaction. :v:

Posted

I think he's around 10 years old since he's eager to befriend some kids. Also there is an official art of him in that story. I'll post it when I find it.

Posted

Just thought of something else. I recall reading before that Daisuke said there's a story behind the woman that appears in Ky's Rising Force sprites. Does anyone know if that has yet to be explained?

Posted

1. Ky was crowned in 2183. His wife had her "egg" soon after that (though the year is never disclosed, his Birthday is May 31st). Ky gave Sin to Sol not long after that (after sparring of course!). Gears tend to age 7 years for every human year. When we do see Sin in Overture it's 2186...so that's 3 years, so he's around age 16-21 in appearance, though he has a mental age of 2 1/2 most likely. Sin's sidestory has him around 11-12 age appearance. Also, so far, everything we think we know about what's behind Sin's eyepatch is speculation (even if it's a Gear Mark which is more likely)...it scared a bunch of kids but that was about it from what I've gathered so far.

2. Thunderseal has no information regarding what is sealed inside, likewise Fireseal...the appearance of the creature in Rising Force is guessed to be (by fans) a Sylph or Fairy...not unlike Jin Kisaragi's Yukianesa, which is Japanese for "Snow Fairy".

Wait. So she literally laid an egg? :psyduck: I'd thought that fanart stuff was just fanon for the lulz...

EDIT: danceljoy, do you mean the illustration in the top left of this page?

The colored one where he's holding lizard and has something in his mouth. But the picture you showed seems to show Sin in around that age anyway.

Also, the egg part really :psyduck: me when I read in the translator. If this is really true and we assume that Dizzy is the Maiden, then Dizzy hatching out of an egg might also be a plausible theory. I tried googling Izuna's and Valentine's but I cannot understand anything.

Posted (edited)

Truth be said, the "egg" is hinted at in Ky's/Sin's Master Ghost, so even if it isn't mentioned in the story directly, it's heavily implied.

I said this before, but I had planned on doing translation of the Overture Material stories AFTER I'm DONE with Night of Knives and doing GGRs for GG through GGXX. It'd be a while, but if you guys are that impatient about it, I can try and give you quick half-assed summaries (as per usual) of the stories if you're chomping at the bit.

I don't really feel like doing that though...since my half-assed stuff REALLY IS half-assed. :v:

Yeah, it was implied, but I figured it was a symbolic implication. :8/: (And the woman in the MG doesn't really look like Dizzy apart from having wings.)

Nah, these summaries are enough to hold me over, at least. I was just curious what happens at all, since it didn't seem like there had even been any quick-and-dirty synopses of them yet.
