Just seems like a strange plot point to completely ignore after bringing it up. But then again it's Guilty Gear.

Still, why are we arguing about a throwaway line that doesn't change anything?

It just seemed like a really weird plot-point to bring up, especially with the huge hub-bub they made about Chipp, and then to completely drop.

This is probably why there are so many plot holes and I'm okay with it. Daisuke, you're weird.

BTW Blade; on your Outrage explanation thing, your 8 Phases are laid out incorrectly. Fire is always South, not West; Earth is center in the 5 phases but southwest in the 8. Water is North (that's why the Pokemon Suicune is the North Wind :U), and so on.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Ching#Trigrams

FWIW, South is the cardinal direction in China (not North like in western ideas), and Sol, the Fire user, is the main character. Daisuke u so clever (but yes, also weird.)

EDIT: I also just recalled something; in one of the PWAB reports in XX (Jam's maybe?) I clearly recall them stating the '5 magical arts'. Now, that would of course be Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, and Wood. But in the same report they state that Ki is one of the 5 arts. So unless Ki is somehow counted as Wood or Metal or something like that (MAYBE Earth?), did it get retconned into the 8 trigrams, instead? Hm. I think the phases also vary slightly between the Chinese and Japanese versions of the 5 elements though, and I'm not completely sure which one Daisuke is using at this point...

I didin't use Wiki as the main source for that particular diagram. Chinese Feng Shui (read: Geomancy) isn't very specific about the Cardinal Points, either, I looked at different sources and none of them say which ways are right, Wiki is only ONE of many many sources on that subject. What's more, I need to update that diagram anyways, since I didn't list Slayer yet.

There's a lot of theory, but nothing majorly specified, so we're poking at guesses at this point. Just understand the whole point of the symbolism relating to the 8 sacred treasures and you get the point.

For what it's worth, I-Ching and the 5 elements are old as fuck, and mostly monastic hearsay (monk gossip), so there was no standard back in those days.

Actually, the reason I realized that wasn't from Wiki (I was linking that for convenience) but from lectures and readings on Daoism I've been doing for a class lately (I'm by no means a major on that in particular, but..). The Cardinal point South = Fire thing is pretty important, though, which is why I noticed and brought it up at all.

I understand what you mean regarding Turtle Tiger Dragon Phoenix etc, but Daoism, Zen, Buddhism, and Shinto tend to deviate from one another about what is really considered North and South.

Old Chinese says South is actually the geographic South-West, and North being North-East. This was long before the Earth was fully mapped out, or that we even knew the Earth was round.

In older transcripts I've read, it wasn't about the directions, it was about opposing elements. (Heaven > Earth, Wind > Lightning, Fire > Water, Mountain > Valley)

Ahhh, you know, I hadn't thought about that point. That would explain it, for sure (especially by the looks of a lot of the Shang burial grounds I've been looking at, which were oriented slightly skewed).

Point being, the diagram I made is less about directions and more about elements each OutRage represented, though it's tradition to say Heaven is North and Earth is South.

That, and Sol's an American from the West. *shrug*

Hey Blade, is it true that there's a Korean translation of Lightning the Argent? If there is one, send it to me, I have a friend who teaches English to Koreans, so many he can at least give us another translation.

Unfortunately it seems the original URL for that archive no longer exists (probably due to server changeover for hosting).

And, sad to say, but I don't think that was a complete translation of the novel anyway, since I recall running it through a Korean Translator and the novel didn't seem to be complete, only a few pages in that I found.

Either way, we're back to square one.

My suggestion, buy "scrappable" copies of the novels that you can destroy the binding for, and scan the crap out of them, then run something like SmartOCR Lite (JP version), paste all the stuff in a text document, proof it, then we can work on translation.

On a side note, I still have those Overture raws I made in archive from SmartOCR Lite.

If you want to try Waybackmachine, URL is this (add an h) : ttp--aquarin.woweb.net-zboard-view.phpid=guilty01&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=1

We don't know yet. :)

Fans postulated it might be an evil future Anji Mito...but that's a line of bull. :toot:

This might be a stupid question, but where does it explicitly state that Sol(still as Frederick) created the OutRage? I've been following GG for years and I only ever remember reading this second hand when people talk about them.

I *believe* it's in the timeline provided in the GGX Drafting Artworks mook. At least that's where Ed Chang's timeline cites it from, iirc.

It was originally stated in the Guilty Gear Bible timeline.

Year 2073, this year marked the "restart" of the Gear Project, 58 years after the original Gear Project ended. It begins with the first Gear Archetype (Gear Prime Fields) that would eventually become Justice (September 2nd, 2073), the first Command Type Gear, in preparation for the mass produced subservient Gear armies to come. Whether or not A Country, Zepp, or the other major superpowers are made aware of Justice's creation is unknown. However, after she is created, That Man begins to mass produce the Gears for various militaries around the world, giving him the name "Gearmaker".

Frederick, still struggling to maintain a human appearance after creating a Gear-cell Inhibitor device, catches wind of That Man's actvity. He begins to create magic amplification devices through various means and elemental seals which would be called "Jinki" (Divine Instruments). He created 8 of them. When all 8 combine, they take on the form OutRage.

It's not known what he did with them, except that they were eventually discovered by the United Nations and given to various elite members of the Sacred Order and various other organizations (The Assassin's Guild notwithstanding). They would later come to be known as "The 8 Sacred Treasures", along with several other "Relics" (Dragonslayer, Flament Nagel, Fenrir) created from the war with the Gears. What's more, the name OutRage is synonymous with various Gear Plants and Gear Manufacturing sites...to what extent this portends to is unknown, except that Dizzy is associated with this somehow.

Is there a place where I can find a translated version of the Guilty Gear Bible? I've check guiltygear.ru, and gearproject.onehitcombo.net doesn't seem to be up anymore.

Haha, unfortunately no. However, I have thoroughly gone over its contents with an OCR program and translator to see if I could pick up anything that may pertain to GG Lore that perhaps Ed Change missed, but, as it is, nearly everything is covered in Ed Chang's Plot Faq (which, by the way, can be found at GameFAQs), what's more, everything that's in the GG Bible has been left UNCHANGED in the 10th Memorial Book and GG2 Material Guide reference materials.

The only pieces of history that may have been left out (even remotely), is the year Old World Zepp was founded (2073), the fall of Calronia (sometime between 2175 and 2180), Zepp's revolution (2180), Erica Bartholomew's Presidential Election (2182), and Ky's coronation to Illuriya (2183).

I will be progressively covering the GG timeline through my GGR articles: http://darkside-ky.deviantart.com/gallery/25793023

It's worth pointing out that 2073 is not only the year Zepp was founded...but also the year Justice was created. The political climate of that year might shed some light on which countries were actually involved in the 2nd Gear Project.

Only time (and Daisuke) will tell. :)

Speaking of Zepp, I still want to know the connection between Gabriel and Slayer. I would like to think it has something to do with the supposed OutRage that Slayer has as revealed by Night of Knives, but that's pure speculation.

The best thing I can tell you is that Slayer has clashed with Zepp (that is to say Zepp prior to it's revolution in 2180, heretofore called "Old World Zepp") many times for many different reasons. Whether that has much to do with Gears or regional interest conflicts (example: Captialism VS Communism and the Cold War), or some other investigative work, remains to be seen.

As far as I know Gabriel was a ranking officer in the Zeppian Army. He is unbelievably strong despite his size and the fact that he's human. I don't know how much Zepp was involved with the Crusades along with the Sacred Order...but if it was, it's almost guaranteed that Gabriel was involved at that time.

Old World Zepp has had its interests in the Assassin's Guild, the Mafia, Calronia Kingdom, Viltania, England (prior to its destruction), the U.N. (United Nations), Interpol, and also A Country so far. They most likely had a hand in the 2nd Gear Project as well...to what extent is unknown. They even had a Space Program at one point, along with several other countries, who tried to send Gear samples into Space (see GGXtra Manga).

You could say Gabriel has done a lot of dirty work for Zepp in the past, hence becoming Slayer's rival.

Beyond that, Potemkin is Gabriel's student, and despite his massive size, has gotten his arse beat plenty of times, as can be illustrated here:

CKwc0.jpg

Slayer has recently made the comment that Potemkin's fighting style is similar to his Master's. So there you have it.

TLDR version: Gabriel is a Badass President.

Currently, Zepp post-2180 (New Zeppian Republic) has taken a stance as less of a nation of science and military advancement (supporting bio weapon development like it did in the past), and more of a society dedicated to world-security and preservation/control of Black-Tech (things like guns are controlled, but other lost technologies are preserved). This includes dealing with older war relics (such as Flament Nagel), and the scientists behind them, neutralizing them as a threat to the people.

Zepp's status as a ligitimate nation comes into question because of their policy to preserve Blacktech, which is banned everywhere else in the world. What's more, the Assassin's Guild has staged several attempts on various individual key figures, making it seem like Zepp attacked them, in order to sully Zepp's reputation. Zepp has also clashed several times with the International Police when attempting to secure potentially dangerous Black-Tech artifacts...so their situation is somewhat precarious in the public eye.

Up until 2182 or so, A Country has been controlled primarily by the Assassin's Syndicate (how far back this has been going on is unknown, I'm not sure Slayer is directly involved with this), their intentions to make Erica Bartholomew a puppet-president, while simultaneously taking the fall in the name of "Zepp", the assassination attempt is halted by Chipp Zanuff on a whim (he just happened to be there). To counter this, she asks a Congressional Representative to pass a bill in Congress that will sever ties with the Syndicate. Representative Wu is threatened to not introduce the bill, as the Assassins have his daughter, Rep. Wu is then told Chipp Zanuff will personally kill him if the bill is not introduced. It's assumed shortly thereafter Zepp/IPF intervened on the hostage situation.

What's more, the Assassins also threaten to kill the Director of Erica's Orphanage where she grew up in exchange that she stop meeting with Zepp. This threat is neutralized when the Guild is rused into thinking that Zepp has staged an attack on Congress and is waging war just as they planned. Thinking Erica is dead, they release the Director, only to learn moments later that Zepp has rescued the Director and Erica will be holding a secret meeting with members of Congress along with Zepp!

In lieu of the Assassin's Guild Organization's attempt to assassinate Erica herself (through Volf, though Chipp stopped him), Erica holds the emergency Congressional meeting that passes the bill that not only severs ties to the Guild, seemingly crippling them, but forms an alliance with the Zepp Republic.
