BearsAreScary Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Little bit of advice I can give from dealing with Gamefest people in the past: 1) Not being a GT student has never and will never be a problem. Come and eat the foods (they're free)! 2) In the past, the crew has jumped from being really friendly to outside consoles to really anal about it and then back to not caring about it. There was one semester where console tournaments didn't happen because some asshole in RHA made a (wrong) argument about how tournaments like this violate copyright law, but everyone believed it and GT is not about to deal with potential legal issues. The past semester or two, people have brought GG/BB/whatever setups, and this has been ok. Please note, not that I think this will be a problem, that the Smash tournaments have been starved for TVs every semester, so don't think you'll be able to use anything you don't bring yourself. I've had to play a 40 man bracket with 4 TVs. For Brawl. At 2AM. It sucks. 3) All I can tell you for sure is that I don't know what will happen. 90% certainty that they won't care and if you bring all your own stuff and keep to yourself you'll have a grand ol' time just like on Fridays (but with free food and sodas!), but the majority of the crew that runs these Gamefests graduated last spring, so we got some new management. They may not be happy with a side-tournament entry fee kinda thing, but if we're the only folk who wanna play something like that, we can keep it a secret It's looking hopeful, but imo if you like how they run it or wanna see that kinda stuff in the future (namely if you go to Gatech :P) then just talk to the folks running the stuff and be nice. They're nerds like you and they've worked hard to put this thing on! I'll be there, and I'll play a few games :P Friday's another party, so if I come it'll likely be late and drunk. Hope to see you all there!
TheGreatReptar Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 *snip* I'm going to try to be as prepared as possible in case they get mad at me for having an entry fee (mostly, I'll just be prepared to give everyone their money back I guess). The worst thing that I can will happen is that we end up having another Friday gathering on Saturday with free food, and maybe with some people who we don't normally see wanting to play.
Jewdo Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 GamingArena sounds awesome - glad the scene is showing signs of growth. I need a ride, but can provide equipment. *Fingers crossed that GG gets more spotlight.*
crystalwind Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Name: JY Location: Warner Robins, GA Travel Distance: Have a car, so I can go up to Atlanta. Character: bang, hazama Skill: haven't played CS as much as CT, better than beginner I guess. Hi, nice to meet you guys. I'm new to Dustloop, so also new to this ga thread. I have read recent few pages, and I'm wondering there is a Blazblue gathering on this Friday at gatech or not since I can't find any recent announcement posted. Also I'm curious that I must have my own ps3 stick controller because I have only one for xbox.
TheGreatReptar Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I believe we're having the regular meet this week, in addition to Gamefest on Saturday. Usually there are more sticks than setups, so there's no worries there.
crystalwind Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Thx for answer. One more question. What should I do when I get gatech? Is it okay to just make a call to daesu's phone number listed on this thread?
Jewdo Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) Atlanta Area BlazBlue/Guilty Gear Gathering December 3, 2010 (Friday) -------------------------------------------------- Location: Georgia Tech Christopher W. Klaus Advanced Computing Building 266 Ferst Drive; Atlanta, GA, 30332 Room # 1447 (unless otherwise noted) Time: Roughly 8:00PM until the wee hours of the morning. Setups: We will be playing BBCS on PS3 and GGAC on PS2. Please bring your own controllers, if you can. If you can bring a TV or full setup, it would be greatly appreciated. Contact: Post here, or call/PM someone if you have any questions. I can provide a CRT TV this week. We always meet at the building marked 2 and park at 3. There is parking at 1, but it's not usually free. The doors to the building lock after a certain hour, but students don't mind if you follow them after they buzz in. If you're having trouble getting inside, you can call or text my number (PM me for it). On GT Gamefest night, I'm working from 5pm-??? (sometime before 10pm), so just text during those hours please. The doors should be open anyway since it's a public event. Looking forward to seeing you there! Edited December 3, 2010 by Jewdo
Daysoo Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) If people are going today I'll try and make it out. I'd like to play some Super~ Edited December 3, 2010 by Daysoo
TheGreatReptar Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Oh yea, you don't have your consoles right now, do you Justin? I suppose I can drag my PS3 over.
Jewdo Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Doesn't matter what game/system. I just want to play something!!! I'm so starved I started looking up #Reload combos to practice on keyboard.
TheGreatReptar Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I should get John to finally get Accent Core for tonight, then bring his PS2.
Daysoo Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I'm not feeling up to going out tonight, but I'll be at tech tomorrow.
FunkyP Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 we're live for you non srk goers http://justin.tv/funkyp
crystalwind Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I just arrived at home. Even though there were not many people playing BBCS, I had a good time. See you guys next.
Jewdo Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Friendly reminder that BBCS2 hits Japanese arcades this Friday. Expect loads of information/videos over the weekend, and enough of knee-jerk reactions to break the shins of every man, woman, and child in China.
TheGreatReptar Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 So...during winter break, we should have weekly player match rooms on Friday nights or something. Just a thought.
TheSlyMoogle Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 So... My Friend Phil is coming in to visit his family for Christmas break. He also just informed me that this WABA Game place is open again. New location in Conyers, GA I think? Anyone know anything? Tim?
Kuroshi Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 WABA is not going to be worth it. It's Min after all.
Stig-san Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Will there be a meet this weekend? I need some Super action with some decent players!
FunkyP Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 most likely, also Kuroshi I just remembered you want to make a thread on SRK about USGA's tournament next week. If you want more people outside the GA threads to come and a better chance of people viewing the stream make a thread about it in the tournaments and events forum.
Kuroshi Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 most likely, also Kuroshi I just remembered you want to make a thread on SRK about USGA's tournament next week. If you want more people outside the GA threads to come and a better chance of people viewing the stream make a thread about it in the tournaments and events forum. Yeah I'll go ahead and post it again in the GA thread as well.
FunkyP Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 you second page aint no fun bros Just an update: There will be another gathering tomorrow before end pf semester, and whos all going to augusta super?
Kuroshi Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Link to the Winter Clash info on SRK http://shoryuken.com/f7/georgia-*winter-clash*-259298/#post9924630
TheGreatReptar Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) I can't make it to Augusta Super. I have two finals on Monday that I've barely studied for so far. I'm definitely available for Winter Clash if someone will give me a ride as always. Also, Atlanta Revival is January 15th. A nice way to top off the first week of classes next semester. http://shoryuken.com/f7/atlanta-revival-reawakening-january-15th-2011-atlanta-ga-259100/ And on a final note, since it is dead week at Tech, there is always a chance that the classrooms will be taken over by students studying. We might have to find another place, although there's some event thing tomorrow that should pull people away from studying around the time we meet up. Edited December 10, 2010 by TheGreatReptar
