Ryuujinx Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Sure, but is that really an issue with watching videos - or watching them at the expense of playing? I just find that an interesting stance to have.
AMB Bakery Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Lol I just suck, I don't think it has to do with how many videos I watch. I watch them mostly for entertainment, if anything.
Ryuujinx Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I'm pretty bad, I just really like playing this game and I'll be a lot more motivated to play again when the new release drops (Even though my copy probably won't get here til next week ;-; )
Scottie Yosh Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) but to use match videos as a tool to help educate yourself on that character aside from the basics will only make you worse. Whilst there is merit to this, not sure I 100% agree. I was actually talking to flameice about this not too long ago, saying how I never go to training mode myself to figure shit out and just rely on others to show what they have. It is definitely one thing for me to improve on, if just a drop in the ocean on the road to 'getting good.' Recently, attitude has been a problem for me somewhat as well. As some of you may know, my current interesting in playing fighting games recently has been waning. May be because I've been waiting for CP for so long. May be because I'm just losing interest and wish to play other things. Whatever the case may be I hope to address the issue now that CP is finally here. Edited October 24, 2013 by Scottie Yosh

It is definitely one thing for me to improve on, if just a drop in the ocean on the road to 'getting good.' Thing is, this shows in your abilities when you play as well. Your Valk has those 2 styles, and it's very obvious when you go for X moves. As people would state, remember how people would complement my abilities in "reading" you? I'm merely just punishing your movement when changing to style 2 (one that isn't your own). Thus, with no plan B, you did not take in the factor if that trick would've worked on me to begin with. Watching YouTube can be a very, very poisonous thing when trying to improve.
FireyFrozenCube Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 The only way to improve is to record your own casual matches and watch them making sure to jerk off extra fast everytime you land a "hard" combo.
Pervert_Q Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 The reason people who play anime games only have 2 styles is because they never learned a standard fighter therefore don't have real fundamentals. They watch the top couple if players and those are 2 styles
MashThat5A Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 You aren't a real fighting game player if you can't sweep->option select your way to victory
Scottie Yosh Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) Sorry Josh, but that post... 1/10. @Pozer I see the point you're making and can see what you're getting at. I do believe watching people who are proficient with their character can be a gold mine. These videos may give one insight, new perspectives, and information. At the same time taking too much without knowledge, or 'xcopying' can be bad. I'll try to work on it. You aren't a real fighting game player if you can't sweep->option select your way to victory Real players pick huskar. Edited October 24, 2013 by Scottie Yosh
gli Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I just go with what works (while understanding why it does).

There's no "taking too much without knowledge", as taking any of it will disrupt your game. You're forcing yourself to do a specific tech into a style that you are not familiar with. They might open a different perspective, but no true information is obtain. If you wanna get better, go to training mode, practice whatever setup you think works. Then playing people online or offline, see what you're hitting them with, and capitalize on that. Otheriwse, you and flameice are living proof that videos hurt more than help.
MashThat5A Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Real players pick huskar. Not in 6.79 they don't
Scottie Yosh Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 as taking any of it will disrupt your game. Think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. I agree with everything else though. 1 is a solid number. ready for blood digger??
Ryuujinx Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Not in 6.79 they don't Hey he still has a 51% win rate.
Pervert_Q Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Grave digger is sweet. Using it in combos is weird though. Will have to research though. Sent from my VS910 4G using Tapatalk 2
PozerWolf Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. I agree with everything else though. I mean, you can disagree all you want, but facts are right there. "i just don't see how I'll ever get that good" The problem is right in front of you.
Scottie Yosh Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Ok, I'll take your advice. Need to training mode more at any rate. Still don't know what character I'm going to use for sure..
redsilversnake Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 In his Evo interview, I remember DIE-Chan said it's fine to copy top players, but that you'll eventually have to start thinking about why those players do what they do. I would say rather than a blanket statement like, "watching videos is poisonous," it's more that people just don't get to that second part. In that sense, it's not that scouring videos of high-level play is harmful, but just that it won't help you improve.
Sadeyo Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I'm going to laugh until my guts hurt because this thread is attempting to sound smart. if you guys were such good friends you should've shared this advice in the first place during GG/MB or as soon as BBCT. Now you guys are just spouting nonsense.

It's funny how you come back, pretending like nothing ever happened.
KBnova Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I miss austin crew and powering up with the chums. I havent powered up in 4months but i have half bottle of energy left over. Tis not the same.

Scottie Yosh Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) I'm going to laugh until my guts hurt because this thread is attempting to sound smart. Because we're absolutely unable to have constructive discussion. if you guys were such good friends you should've shared this advice in the first place during GG/MB or as soon as BBCT. Now you guys are just spouting nonsense. You seem to have the impression that this is the ONLY place we communicate. This isn't Pozer's first time bringing up this point. I miss austin crew and powering up with the chums. I havent powered up in 4months but i have half bottle of energy left over. Tis not the same. Miss you too Kenji!! In the end, I still think there are things to gain from watching good players. I disagree with the "fact" that gaining anything(read:ANYTHING) from watching said videos aside from the 'basics' is poisonous. Maybe we have a different definition of 'basics'. But, what do I know. I don't win tournaments. I may be wrong. I have CP, time to training modo! Edited October 25, 2013 by Scottie Yosh
